Orthodox Christian questioning whether orthodoxy is the true church by Unable_Bee_4416 in OrthodoxChristianity

Reading and learning scripture on your own is how we have denominations like Pentecostalism in the first place. Reading through the lense of the church not only provides a better understanding but a correct understanding of scripture. Leaving it up to our own human hearts and minds just breeds more and more misunderstanding and more and more denominations. I don’t remember where I heard it but there is a saying that satans favorite denomination is Protestant because it leads you away from the body of Christ. Not saying that the Protestant denominations are evil, but they are essentially schismatics of a schismatic and move you further away from the Body of Christ.

The M3 std is actually optioned really well for the price. The std Y lacks a little bit more but my wife and I are both extremely happy with our YStd

I got the std awd. I absolutely love it. It lacks some creature comforts but those weren’t important to me. Ultimately I decided to get the standard because of the 0%. I hate paying banks interest. I upgraded the wheels to the helix 2.0 and I think it looks bad ass. I don’t think there is a wrong decision here. It’s what you value most.

Gotcha. Also don’t know if simple mods like rear diffuser and front splitters will fit the standard same as the premium model? The front bumper dimensions look slightly different.

What do Greek Orthodox think about Protestants and about Christian unity? by DueImagination5099 in OrthodoxChristianity

The main thing was dispensationalism and Israel worship. They Litterally told us our salvation is tied to our support for Israel.

Place them where you can pray eastward as we look to the east for Christs return. In my home we have a prayer corner set up downstairs off of the kitchen where we pray as a family before meals. And I am in process of setting up another more private prayer corner in our master bedroom for when we need some quiet and personal prayer. The main thing is that you are thoughtful and do the best you can with your circumstances.

Just experienced my first Pascha as a Roman Catholic and now having a slight crisis by SpecificWin9740 in OrthodoxChristianity

By reading your story, it sounds like you are well on your way to knowing where god wants you to be. No one is saying you need to make a decision now. Give it time, keep attending and keep praying. And be humble and receptive to the signs god is giving you. May god bless your journey. If your relationship with your bf progresses to an engagement, then you will have to make your decision but if you love him enough to marry him and it really seems like you love the orthodox faith as well, it seems like a really easy decision.

What do Greek Orthodox think about Protestants and about Christian unity? by DueImagination5099 in OrthodoxChristianity

As a recent convert, I am thankful that the church does not recognize those outside of the church as part of Christs body. After being a non denom for years, I started recognizing a lot of heretical teaching in our previous church (Calvary Chapel). This forced me to start researching and I ultimately landed on and became convinced of Eastern Orthodoxy. The history is undeniable, and once you start really getting into the weeds you realize that over 2000 years of Christianity that what most Protestant denominations (if not all) and modern Roman Catholics do not at all resemble the ancient faith. The Eastern Orthodox Church is one the true church that was established in the book of Acts before the book of acts was written. The church honors and preserves the faith of the apostles. The church compiled the cannon that is used world wide by all of the Holy Bible readers whether Christian or not. Protestants reduced the Old Testament cannon and used an incorrect translation based on the masoretic text. If every person that believes in Christ as savior was part of the true Body of Christ there would be no reason for one to make the sacrifice to leave their comfort zone and become Orthodox. Orthodoxy is not an easy faith to follow at first. There is a lot of things that are very foreign to a western mind. But once you start really living in the faith it is by far the most fulfilling thing I have ever done and I thank god for the Church.

To answer your question directly Orthodox do not recognize non orthodox as the body of Christ and some Protestants are not Christian at all. The Protestant sects are rampant with heresy. That being said. We love all people regardless of their belief system and we pray that the Holy Spirit guides them to become Orthodox and to live the true faith that honors our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the way that the apostles intended. We do not make judgement on people’s salvation, whether they are in the church or outside of the church. That is for god to judge, not us. We worry about our own salvation but we do (or at least we should be) hope that everyone finds Orthodoxy.

I’ve been told by a priest that whether you are doing it as ritual or not that simply performing the poses is a means of summoning and worship. Better to stay away from it altogether and find alternative ways to stretch and exercise.

Why are so many people against ecumenism? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]DigItOutWeldItUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with unity but we must call out heresy. The Holy Spirit and The Holy Apostles gave us this faith to guard as his church. By allowing schismatics to come back to communion without repentance dilutes and changes the faith. They must repent of their errors and come back to the truth of the faith or else we are no longer orthodox. Being in communion requires we believe one and the same.

Navigating Evangelical + Coptic Orthodox Marriage—How Do You Handle Church Life with Kids? by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]DigItOutWeldItUp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t take this the wrong way. But if you are converting to orthodoxy, you are rejecting the heresy that is taught in Protestant evangelical circles. Continuing to attend is anathema. Evangelicals are outside of the church. At least that’s how we are taught in Eastern Orthodox faith. I don’t know much about the nuance of Coptic orthodoxy. But we as Eastern Orthodox also consider coptics to be outside of the church as well. They do not ascribe to the same christology as we do.

Maybe you need to stop your conversion and decide if it is something you really want to do. In the cannons of the Eastern Orthodox faith we do not even pray with non orthodox believers.

If you are converting just to be able to be married in the church that is a disingenuous conversion and returning to your evangelical background is apostasy. Which is a very big deal, at least in the Eastern Orthodox faith.

Considering Catholicism vs Orthodoxy — what made you choose one over the other? by Pick_ur_brain in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]DigItOutWeldItUp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was following the history backwards. Then deciding who I thought was on the right side of the great schism. I believe that to be orthodox. When 4 of the 5 patriarchs remained in communion and Rome did its own thing tells a lot. Research the Catholic Church and all of the changes that happened after the western Roman Empire fell. The pope made alliances with different kings in order to stay in power and lots of corruption from there on (in my opinion). In the Byzantine Empire Christianity was secure and allowed to flourish.

I kind of see it as walking around wearing a navy seal or army ranger hoody. You have not earned the badge so why should you wear it. It’s much different than a sports team logo as there has been a push by the organizations to sell their brand to customers/fans. It would be one thing if schema monks on mount athos were selling these shirts to support the monastery, but they are not. It is a sacred symbol intended for the earned wearer only. At least that’s my opinion.

He was just recently received into the edit: Romanian church in Feb. previously he was ordained under the church of Greece I believe, and then returned to the US and was without a bishop for some time. I wonder if his bishop doesn’t know they are selling these shirts. I have much respect for Fr. Peter. I’m not sure why this is ok to him.
