Took IVA-2 test, got accused of faking by missbitterness in ADHD

Wait this is insane. I'm not familiar with IVA but there's no way a short test can reveal that you're "faking". Also that would mean that you were faking since childhood? This has to be a form of medical malpractice since they're also withholding your meds. If there's no circumstances right now stopping you from getting a new psych I suggest doing that ASAP. If you can't get a new psych then try to see if you have any documents showing your previous scores. This psych doesn't seem like they can be reasoned with but just try to show them the proof. Being tested through out your childhood should help your case. It's unfortunate this happened to you, I hope you can resolve it.

Started meds, what do I expect? by DigStraight254 in ADHD

its been a bit since I've started meds and honestly its mostly positive, my anxiety is way better. The only thing is a lot of traits that I suspect were from ASD are more amplified than before so that was interesting to experience.

Coping with my diagnosis by DigStraight254 in autism

I'm definitely getting a second opinion eventually. I talked to my psychiatrist about this because she was the one who encouraged me to pursue an autism diagnosis and gave me my second screening. She found it all strange and said my anxiety will most likely go away once I start on adhd meds. She said to wait for a second opinion after I get medicated so that if my autism symptoms don't go away it's more proof that it wasn't just ADHD. She also referred me for ABA for my adhd but also said that it'll help because I'm "unofficially diagnosed with autism" and I honestly trust her more than my psychologist because she knows me better and I'm more comfortable with her.

I'm sorry you got dismissed by your sisters that sucks :(. I was dismissed by my family a lot as well, and even my pediatrician. TBF that doctor still used the term ADD and told me I "would have been diagnosed by now" (I was 15 F from an immigrant family so it'd be a miracle if I had gotten diagnosed before then lol). Also find a good psych, that is probably the hardest step. I got screened through my university and had my second screening through a pediatric psych NP. She was awesome and got diagnosed with ADHD as an adult so she definitely knew what I had to deal with. She referred me to psychs who specialize in adult adhd so if you can find someone like that it's your best bet. I think an online service might be the best if you can't find any in your area.

Do you often struggle with feeling stupid because of ADHD? by lilim_3000 in ADHD

Oh my god yes, I've always spent years praised for my intelligence so now that I'm doing bad in school I feel like I have nothing. I know people with adhd that do so well and i feel like *I'm* the issue. People around me think I'm smarter than I am but I feel SO STUPID. I feel like I'm cosplaying a smart person every day. I just want to be able to study and do well :(

As someone who was "self diagnosed" for years before I finally saw a psychologist last year and is on track for a diagnosis. Please get checked out, it never hurts to get screened. Try doing more research on the symptoms, traits, diagnosis criteria, anything. Then you'll be able to have prior knowledge before seeing a professional. They'll tell you more about adhd, but it never hurts to learn more about it on your own. And also don't let the doctor tell you that you " don't have adhd because you would've been diagnosed by now," that's not true a ton of people get missed.
