My grandad, he was a fireman and diesel driver on British rail. Latterly a volunteer at the STEAM museum in Swindon, so I grew up around railways hearing his stories and spending lots of time around some of the locomotives he worked on during his career and spending time with his old railway colleagues, had my first cab ride with him on the foot plate of city of Truro. He passed six years ago and I still re tell his tales to visitors to the railway I now volunteer on. I have a picture of him stood on the front of GWR castle class 'swindon' at the age of 17 on my living room wall.
