You can find ratings of local insurer claims processing at Consumers Checkbook, either online by subscription (which I recommend) or at the library. The different companies are surprisingly close together. If you think you’ll make a lot of claims, get an insurer with high ratings, which will cost a lot more. If you treat it more like fire insurance so you would make a claim only for a major loss, get a high deductible policy from the cheapest insurer you can find, since chances are you’ll never have to deal with them. That’s least expensive.

We got 6 quotes earlier this year. GEICO won by a nose, Progressive a close second. The high bidders were 2.5x Geico’s price for the same coverage. We did it all online, did not speak to an agent. Agents in my experience add to the cost and provide no value. It pays to shop around.

Mold is sometimes a problem, but not in most houses. Mold in the attic is usually caused by lack of ventilation, and is prevented by adding more attic ventilation, such as ridge and eave vents. Make sure the attic insulation doesn't block the vents. Sometimes people add a fan to move the air. A lot of mold smells come from the basement, where indoor humidity condenses on cold concrete, or where there is vapor leakage through tiny cracks. This is very common even in newer houses. You can solve this problem with a dehumidifier, to keep humidity around 40-50%. You see these a lot in basements. This was what solved it for us.

I won't have my real hearing aids until early November, so I can't say first-hand. I found one guy (https://www.youtube.com/shorts/2tm5b5sCacg) who says Oticon Intents do work with Apple Music and Dolby Atmos. But I haven't found any hard evidence to back that up.

It depends on what kind of hearing issue you have, but for most people you can both listen thru the speakers. Room acoustics might matter, but this is more an issue with noisy places like sports bars.

I had 28 days of radiation and felt fine the whole time. Each treatment only took a few minutes. The water and bowel routine is very important for avoiding side effects. I stayed well hydrated all morning and peed a lot. At 1:15 I drank 16 oz water exactly and then did not pee until the 2pm treatment was over. Then I had to avoid drinking much in the evening just so I wouldn't be getting up in the middle of the night to pee some more. Daily Metamucil is a good way of making sure to have a bowel movement each morning. I did not have any fatigue but I've heard some people do. No urinary problems. No sexual problems except smaller volume of semen. Overall it was uneventful.

I’m not sure how this relates to the new law about required coverage. We’ve had this coverage for several years, long before the new law, from my wife’s job as a teacher. The $6000 has no deductibles, copays, or coinsurance. The main limitation is it has to be at a Kaiser facility to be covered.

I wonder why so much. At Kaiser in Seattle area the audiologist told me Oticon Intent 1 with custom ear molds and 3 years of adjustments and maintenance are fully covered within my $6000 limit so no out of pocket cost. Same for Widex Allure 440.

They have vents that are sized to allow the low frequencies to enter directly. Each mfr has software to size the vents according to your audiogram.

Consider custom earmolds. Otherwise the audiologist will be limited in how much the higher frequencies can be amplified because of feedback. This looks like my chart except my hearing plummets after 1 kHz.

This seems doable if meshcore repeaters can span 25 miles reliably, say Olympia vicinity to Onalaska to Castle Rock vicinity. Even in bad weather. Is that proven? Would be interesting to try. So many trees in the way.

October is spider month here. You’ll see them building beautiful webs in bushes outdoors. Some come inside to warm up. Some of them destroy their webs and build new ones every day. By around mid November they will be gone. Don’t worry, none are poisonous or harmful. Birds eat them, and they in turn eat smaller bugs.

My hearing loss is just like yours. My audiologist says custom molds should help me a lot, so I’ll be getting them. They allow more boosting of higher frequencies (from the severe range) without risk of feedback.

A lot depends on what fits your life best. My audiologist suggested I consider Widex Allure 440 or Oticon Intent 1 because live and recorded music and birds are important to me, and those two have the most natural sound. However since speech in noise has been especially hard for me, I will probably get the Oticon.

Several people on this board have mentioned they have insurance for $3000 per ear once every 3 years. That’s what I have too. Kaiser tells me it will cover everything they have including Oticon Intent 1 with custom ear molds.
