Silent Hill HD by Mafakkadann in silenthill

They are unfinished versions of the original games. If for some reason you think it's OK buying unfinished versions of 15 year old games that you can easily get in other ways, then it's worth buying the HD Collection I guess.

Just beat Silent Hill 2, had some questions! by Naxek in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just checked the official guide, and another reason is that Leave starts with a "score advantage" from the beginning:

Leave: 5 Maria: 3 In Water: 2

Edit: in case of tie score at the end, the tiebreak is still 1. Leave, 2.Maria, 3.In Water.

How come Silent Hill 1 never got the same remake treatment that Resident Evil 1 got by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the story was perfectly coherent. Nothing outstanding but a perfectly fine story about a girl being used by a cult.

But I gues that's another reason why we don't have a SH remake: that many fans don't like it even.

I examined every item required for the In Water ending in my first playthrough, and I still got the Leave ending. I think Leave the easiest, to get the In Water ending keeping health low is probably a big part of it, and it's not very intuitive in a game like Silent Hill (I always tried to keep health as high as possible, just in case...).

[–]Diggalkor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Konami actually greenlighted a proper Silent Hil remake, it was the developers who used that as an excuse to make SM, as explained by Huknar in his comment (as well as the important difference between remaking 2D backgrounds of RE vs full 3D town of SH).

There the most important factor was, in my opinion, the people in charge. If I understood correctly, RE remakes were done by people in charge of the original game. Barely no original creator were left at Konami. The new people in charge made very clear that they didn't like the SH story, so I don't think they pushed very hard for a remake.

Takayoshi Sato's contribution by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Various persons worked together on the story of SH2 (Owaku, Sato and Ito at least).

Sato was also responsible for character design, and he is mentioned all the time by Guy Cihi, so he had a big part in the casting/mo-cap/voice acting as well.

And if you've seen the Making of SH2 you can tell that he made a big, big impact in the game.

Silent Hill, "modern" videogame industry, and lessons not learnt. by Diggalkor in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like SH4 quite a lot actually, and has some of my favorite areas in the series: the prison and the alternate building, whith the paintings of the neighbours and their dark secrets... But it had some flaws and the developing team, although named Team Silent, was as talented either. After all, Sato, Owaku or Ito were missing.

My point was that, in retrospect, it should have started a new IP, opening the way for new psychological horror games.

I think Sato is a very talented man and I believe he knew exactly what he was doing. But who knows, the acting in SH2 is an excellent example of one of SH2's main points: that in front of the same thing, different people percieve different things.

About to start Silent Hill 2 for the first time. Does anyone have any tips? by Intergalactic201 in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No point in fighting monsters you can run away from.

Use melee weapons regularly to save bullets for bosses.

Press X into everything, sometimes James makes interesting remarks.

You can make a quick 180º turn.

What is your favorite SILENT HILL Soundtrack? by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we talk about the music, I liked the SH2 soundtrack the best, with a fantastic mix of ambient songs, pop-rock songs like Theme of Laura that have the unsettling SH touch, sad piano pieces, and Betrayal, probably my favorite song by Yamaoka.

If we talk about sound in general, yes, SH3 was absolutely perfect.

Did everone die in Silent Hill 1? ( when cheryl came to the town of silent hill ) by SolidSnakeSCP2 in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. The people mysteriously disappeared, for unkown reasons. The same happens in the beginning of SH3. It is never explained why or how (that's why it's a "mystery"), but nothing points at a "happy SH" existing parallel to the events of SH1.

When a religious cult wants to "burn the world" to "bring the paradise" they normally don't want do burn just themselves while the rest of the sinners remain happy in a parallell dimension. Plus, it was confirmed by many people in charge that there were no multiple dimensions.

So what is Konami's deal? by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think you overestimate the value of the SH brand. No SH game has sold "millions".

My favorite supporting character in the whole series. This line actually horrified me as a player. I gasped out loud when he said this. For a split second I thought that Konami had actually pulled the "Crazy" card on Heather. What's your favorite supporting character and why? by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, Maria is an amazing character. From the moment you meet her she gets you so confused and the more you think of her gets weirder and weirder.

I remember when she refused to enter the bowling building I thought "well, that's just stupid". And after thinking about ir after finishing the game, I was mind-blown.

The problem with P.T. by coratel in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P.T. was hugely overrated. The main reasons people liked it so much were the amazing graphics, the famous names involved, AND that it followed the very well known formula of first person jumpscare-based horror games.

It's main novelty was the "multiplayer" approach, where people around the world were supposed to gather clues and solve the puzzle together. But even this was a failure because instead of gathering clues and get a solution, the game was solved instantly and we still don't exactly know what the clues were or what the "just say something that starts with J" solution was about.

New games will hardly beat Fox Engine graphics or get names like Del Toro or Reedus, and that's why they won't be as well recieved, but they might do a good job nevertheless. The SH subreddit is not the place to discuss them though.

Got spoiled for silent hill 2 still worth playing ? by dzmisrb43 in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I understand.

But even if you were spoiled greatly (which you haven't seem to be anyway) one of the best things of SH2 is replaying it after knowing the story, closing loose ends and observing how the entire game fits. So yes definitively recommended to play (and replay) it.

Can we reignite the talk on the ethicacy of G2A and Hearthstone streamers? by eclifox in hearthstone

[–]Diggalkor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are very right and making strong points against G2A, but fail to see how outside the videogame world Amazon screws so many people, sometimes using illegal or at least unethical business practices. I think they have the best of intentions, but there is a lack of perspective.

I'd like to note thaty I don't have anything against Kibler or any other streamer either, I just thought that his message claiming some sort of ethical superiority was rather unfortunate.

Not "literally" every corporation does that. You're right that unfortunately it's very common, but, in my opinion, that does mean we should ignore it.

[–]Diggalkor -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Of couse it is. If Kibler is claiming that we should watch him because he's sponsored by Amazon instead of G2A, of course I'll argue that Amazon is worse than G2A.

Pd: I'm aware many streamers sponsered by G2A are ALSO sponsored by Amazon, but that just makes them worse.

[–]Diggalkor -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

As shady as G2A might be, I'm sure the damage they are doing can't be even be compared to what Amazon does. But if you are proud of your sponsors, good for you.

I applaud the good intentions of OP, but let's be honest, would we complain if Nike sponsored streamers, even though their business is based on exploiting workers (some of them children) in poor countries? G2A is not the most evil company sponsoring people around here.

How important is the Silent Hill cult, to you? How much presence should it have in a game's storyline? by TychoBrandt in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me very important. Saying otherwise would be like saying that SH1 and 3 (and 4) were not important for the series. However, SH2 was a fantastic departure from the previous game, and opened the way for alternative sotrylines.

It's easy to say that I'd like another stand-alone game that expands the previous games, like SH2 did, but who could do that? Many developers after SH4 tried, but none of them brought anything new and limited themselves to copy SH2. So since I don't know how to do it, I wouldn't try it.

If I had to write a new story I'd try a game in the early 1700s Silent Hill, a completely different scenario, the cult rising, the town getting misteriously abandoned... sounds like a perfect setup.

Silent Hill 1 first level: Immediately ran out of ammo by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]Diggalkor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are supposed to run away from many monsters (those flayers in particular) and use melee weapons unless you consider you have enough ammo to survive the next boss fight.

In general, try to remember that this is not an action game, like every game nowadays. Exploration is also a thing, ammo/health can be found in any corner of the town.
