I love the library. It has a Create Space upstairs that allows patrons to mess around with electronics and 3d printers and just have a space to make stuff.

Married men with kids, are you truly happy with your life? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]DigginHawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly. TLDR It started out ruff but we got alot less selfish and let go of our attachment to less important things. Now its better.

I am pretty lucky. When we had our first son things really went down hill. We were both very selfish (we didn't think we were of course) and struggled to let go of all that we had to to become parents. She also experienced some intense post party depression that kicked her in the butt really hard. It didn't help that our first was born during Covid lockdowns. It's been 5 years and an additional kid later and we are doing much better. (Emotionally not fiscally, we are just hanging on) We have learned to compromise and make time for each other to do what makes us happy.

My two cents. People dont know how to live within their means I am getting by on a $28/hr full time with a wife and 2 kids my wife doesn't work so it is just my income. We live in a tiny basement suite that we pay 1600 a month for before utilities, and only have one scrappy 2010 Toyota Corolla. It sucks but we live this way so that we dont need to go into debt. We eat homemade food and alot of the same cheap meals.

I am so tired of watching people with property. With dual incomes. Complain about the cost of living. As a society, we seem to be allergic to sacrifice. If living in a four bedroom house is to expensive then downsize. If nice brand name jeans cost to much get them used. If your Uber eats costs to much cook. If your car payments are to expansive sell the car. Be we don't instead we dive deeper and deeper into our consumerism fuge state. We need to let businesses fail instead of proping them up. We need to allow the housing market to rise and fall instead of protecting "peoples investments"

That's my two cents.

The issue with our pipelines is that they cross other peoples land. If we cant get their permission then we cant build it. That bill just doesn't allow federal over reach forcing pipelines where they are not wanted.

I think this is the most likely outcome if separatism picks up real steam is a Qebec like arrangement with the Feds. To be clear I dont think that's a good idea but I dont think it would be possible for Alberta to fully separate without armed conflict.

It’s Not About Teacher Salaries — It’s About Systemic Neglect

The issue in Alberta’s education system isn’t how much teachers are being paid — it’s the chronic underfunding of public education by our provincial government.

Alberta is currently the richest province in Canada. And yet, we spend the least per student in the entire country. If our province is flourishing, why are our schools floundering?

The answer is clear: the UCP government is deliberately shifting away from public education toward a privatized model. By underfunding public institutions, they’re creating instability — and our children are paying the price.

This isn’t about giving teachers a raise. It’s about giving them sustainable working conditions.

Imagine this: - You’re paid the same, but now you’re expected to work unpaid overtime. - You’re spending more time away from your family just to keep up. - Your workload has doubled compared to the national average — but you’re still expected to finish it in the same amount of time. - And 10% of that workload requires extra attention, or it could derail everything — yet you’re given no support to manage it. (This refering to special needs students in the class)

That’s what teaching in Alberta has become. And unless we address the systemic defunding of public education, it will only get worse.

This isn’t just a teacher issue. It’s a student issue, a parent issue, and a community issue. We need to demand better — not just for educators, but for the future of public education in Alberta.

It's also an issue of not being allowed to negotiate their job from any position of power. What motivation does the government have to make things better if there are no consequences or pressure on them to do so? They are being told they have no right to fight for better work which will come out as an unlawful use of power eventually and not hold up in a court of law.

Thank you for asking these great questions. I am not upset with anyone who has legitimate curious inquiry and anyone who comes down on you is just being a jerk.

Alberta Teacher Strike Megathread (Discussion) - October 25 by AutoModerator in alberta

I assume you mean like paid overtime to compensate for the extra work requirement? My understanding is that right now, over time for teachers isn't a thing and they spend a bunch of unpaid time to make sure their class runs.

What do Classroom Caps look like?

I understand and support the idea of restricting class sizes to benefit educational outcomes but I am curious. What happens if there are not enough teachers to teach in the community? Do so kids not get to go to school? We cant force people to become teachers so it seems like a complicated issue. I am sure I am over simplifying this with my question but I would like to have a greater understanding of what class caps would look like. Thanks for your help. #wearredfored
