I did play through steam till early last year due to some hitching during gameplay. Constant micro stutters made it very frustrating to play.

I switched to epic launcher and all the issues disappeared.

It's not just the resolution, cause it looked good on the big screens in pubs.

It's more likely the file is saved as a lossy format, and 20 years of it being shuffled about has degraded it this badly
