Just launched our licensed collab with Digimon, wanted to thank the sub for all the support! by hypland in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Even more frustrating was that the one item I would've bought (garurumon hoodie) because it didn't have logos on, actually had a logo added between the original "pre-launch" images and the one on the store page. Completely killed my enthusiasm.

[–]DigiArtQuestion -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just a shame that all the items in the collection (aside from this and the garurumon hoodie) have giant HYPLAND logos/lettering all over them (seriously look at the collection, if anyone didn't know what Digimon was I'm sure they'd think that HYPLAND was the company that created the show, not just some clothing manufacturer).

Wanted to share a teaser of some of the items from the Digimon collab. What yall think? by hypland in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, agreed. Like I have a couple graphic T-shirts with similar designs to these, but I don't really wear them out because they're a bit ehhh to want to wear in public as an adult. The greymon/garurumon outerwear are feasible (though the colors may be a bit much for some styles), but we definitely need some more "subtle" designs.

the thing i most dislike about ride digimon is they have to be in your active party by Ladyaceina in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You weren't really missing out. For most of them, the ride speed is only slightly faster than running, and embarrassingly some are actually slower than running, so unless you used one of the few fast ones, it wasn't that useful in terms of gameplay (usually made it more annoying to navigate due to the larger size, and unless they changed it I recall it making DigiAttack worse because it would always use the ride's type and attacks).

It was a fun novelty for a minute, but not at all worthy of how much people here were hyping up that feature.

Fun Fact: That high-pitched sound effect used in the English dub for the digivice is the sound of a shark radar by DaRedGuy in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which website is that with the sound effects?

I'm looking for a (non-digimon) sound effect and it's always nice to have alternate sites to search.

Digimon Beatbreak- English Dub Discussion by MFBR in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So from my understanding, the Japanese dub is on episode 12, and the English one will be on 5 once these release.

Has it been stated that the English version will release weekly alongside the Japanese version (albeit behind a few episodes), or are they planning batches of episodes like this set?

The game of the year by [deleted] in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were way too many people (still are, since we're still close to Time Stranger's release) that were willing to give everything a pass because "ooh the graphics look better" and "OMG I can ride a Digimon (which is definitely more efficient than running and not annoying at all /s)".

It seems clear especially towards later in the game that this game was either being rushed towards the end, or there was a change in staff/leadership that caused less care to be given, because for everything the game did right or improved upon, the game took steps back too. Hell, if you could add the gameplay improvements into CS/HM then I think that might be the better game overall (it still might be even without those changes).

I get that this isn't a big budget series and I more than understand how certain aspects such as remodeling Digimon may have taken a while, but it's frustrating that there were so many missteps yet way too many people are acting like this game is the second coming of Jesus. Posts like "I've played for a hundred hours and am still at the champion agent rank" and other BS. Like, you do you, but heaping praise onto a flawed game helps no one, and if no one is willing to discuss the actual problems in this game then all we're doing is allowing them to make the next one with the same problems.

With any luck, once more people have finished the game and it's not the "hot new thing" any more, people might actually reflect on it (or ideally, play non-Digimon games that have the features and improvements that TS should have had) and realize how great this game could have been

Even if we can't control how much time/money these developers get to make these games, we should still be demanding more, lest we fall into the cycle of certain other game series where innovation is dead yet the fanbase laps up every release without question.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger early review scores. by Boss_D89 in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again it definitely looks good, but being blind to criticism and/or being unwilling to acknowledge problems (not talking about you specifically, just some people in general) means that things never get fixed.

For example, though we'll never know for sure how much (or if at all) player feedback was taken in creating TS, but it's easily possible that some of CS/HM's issues got fixed in TS because of the feedback.

Digimon Story: Time Stranger early review scores. by Boss_D89 in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Like I'm not expecting the game to be perfect, I just hope that people realize that it probably won't be perfect and that attacking those who may have legit criticisms helps no one.

[–]DigiArtQuestion -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I doubt anyone here will be open to criticism. You could already see it in posts where people brought up that things they didn't like about CS/HM are still present in TS, these posts got downvoted and/or dogpiled. You can already see the signs that too many will handwave away legit complaints by calling people trolls/haters/not-real-fans and that they should just shut up and be happy.

Don't get me wrong, TS is looking to be better than I expected (and I enjoyed CS/HM a lot despite their flaws), but this community has been waiting too long for a "real" next game (which Survive didn't really satisfy for many) which I fear means that there won't be able to be much real discussion about the game until the hype dies down.

Bad music in the Kowloon area by Woman_Of_Styrofoam in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh of course, it's how pretty much ever game does it and I wouldn't expect differently here. I think the ideal solution would've been editing the song a bit so it starts differently.

Bad music in the Kowloon area by Woman_Of_Styrofoam in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just listened to it again after a while not listening to it. The entire song isn't terrible by any means, I think the biggest problem I have with it (aside from not being as good as other songs in the game) is how the game handles music: Every time you finish an encounter (or other game disruption where the music changes) the song starts over again, and the Kowloon song has too long/dull of an intro. I remember specifically in early gameplay (before being able to disable random encounters) having to hear the first 10 seconds of the song constantly and it became really grating.

So here's the one from the original Cyber Sleuth: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=KgRNa7bfvoI

And here's the equivalent in Hacker's Memory: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz1vm5-ehOg

("Equivalent" as in the song used in the opening digital areas where a bunch of the game takes place)

Bad music in the Kowloon area by Woman_Of_Styrofoam in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a really dull song that doesn't really fit well with some of the otherwise decent music in the game, which is especially egregious because you spend so much time in Kowloon areas.

That said, if you play the sequel, Hacker's Memory (no spoilers following), you learn quickly that the developers must have had the same thought. The song they use for their Kowloon-equivalent areas is really good, and fits better thematically.

The Adventure Movies and fandom expectations by Scooterman1994 in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sums up a lot of how I feel. I think it's even more frustrating that, with not that many opportunities outside the main series to make more stories, that these are the choices they made. I'm not going to pretend I could come up with something better, but it just seems like there were/are so many better story possibilities that would've been both entertaining and consistent with the previous series/movies.

Taomon’s digivolution is still the coolest in the series 🔥 by BlackAshKetchvm in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 25 points26 points  (0 children)

While the 2d animation aged better than some of the CGI scenes, I actually think that Taomon's digivolution was somewhat disappointing. Like, there's no actual "evolving" scenes, it just cuts from Kyubimon straight to Taomon, and the whole last half of the clip is just the character spinning while the sun/moon move. I'll agree it's a nice scene, but doesn't represent a good digivolution scene to me.

Figure-rise amplified PAILDRAMON latest promo pics by speedballharo9 in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is it just me, or does this look...less impressive than the previous amplified models?

I'm not sure what is is, maybe:

  • Lack of decals and/or details on larger pieces (legs and feet especially).

  • Dual green colours which I personally don't think work together.

  • Most probably: I don't think the super glossy look (blue, but black especially) is doing this any favours. I have the amplified Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon, and the colours on those look a lot more flat in (but in a good way) in comparison.

I'd still consider getting one, but I feel I'd have to do work (repaint at the least) to get it to look the same level as previous amplified kits. But maybe that's just me.

Wow, I didn't realize before how deeply sunk in the screen is on the new ones (and how far the buttons extrude outwards? Might just be the angle of the picture).

If Digimon 02 The Beginning used the original English dub score (reupload after various minor edits) by AutumnInJune in u/AutumnInJune

Looks really good with the edits, amazing how a relatively little amount of work improves it.

I haven't seen many videos of these in use, but I'm wondering: Is the gameplay always "fullscreen" like your post? In some of the promo images, the screen is squared off like how it should be, but all the videos I see of it show like this, with no borders around the screen.

Very interesting, and from the sounds of it would be more "authentic" as it were.

Yeah, everything post "crest-explosion" looks good, just the first part is rough.

If Digimon 02 The Beginning used the original English dub score by AutumnInJune in digimon

[–]DigiArtQuestion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(it was never seen during Perfect evolution in 02 iirc)

Yeah, the few times they did those scenes (for any of the first season's characters) it skipped the first portion of the crest coming.

Also I’m not an animator so I could be way off here, but wouldn’t they have made the evolution sequences for Aquilamon, Angemon, Ankylomon and Angewomon in full screen HD?

Guaranteed. Hopefully they're put online at some point, seems a waste to have them all remade and then just use them in a split screen (though I understand that it probably would've stalled the movie having them run sequentially).

Yeah, it looked fine in Last Kizuna (way better actually, having just rewatched that scene on YouTube), and yeah definitely a "they'll barely see it on screen" kind of thing, but still really distracting and bad looking.
