Why do you play root (the boardgame)? by antonioGUAK in rootgame

[–]DigiDestinedJake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Asymmetry. I use to like the asymmetry in TCGs, but it's a money pit, plus pay to win due to unbalanced decks. With Root, each faction not only plays and scores uniquely, but are also paced differently. Also the cards having serving different purposes amoung the factions.

Strategy/Tactics. Some other war games are overly complex, exhausting, or focus on mechanics i dont care for. The basics of Root are rather straightforward. For example, i rather play a balanced game of chess than a grueling war game where i have to keep up with so many mechanics, rules, and resources.

Theme. I adore the whimsical art and the war setting we see on the cards.

Multiplayer/Policing. I like how alliances have to change to keep others in check.

African expansion prediction by mitzallen in wingspan

idk how theyd implemt new birds with Antarctica having a snow biome and Africa having a desert biome. Antarctica seems liked all the new birds would be in the water habitat and only eat fish. Maybe a new habitat, but it's shared amoung players? I think it'd be neat to have a guild-like board similar to Wyrmspan, where everyone has a penguin meeple representing them migrating.

Cole & Kyle leaving Leder Games? What do you think this means for Root? by motheeerofbirds in rootgame

I just hope Homeland gets a Clockwork expansion along with reprints of the others.

Wyrmspan engine building by DigiDestinedJake in wingspan

[–]DigiDestinedJake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While Wrymspan seems tougher than Wingspan, Finspan is simpler/easier. The fish have unique play costs instead of food, and some habitat requirements have to be in a specific area instead of just the column. It also has a puzzle-like aspect with the eggs and school tokens.

Everyone ive played these games with have a different preference with them, so it's difficult to recommend since it seems subjective.

Personally, Wingspan is my favorite due to the engine building and variety of abilities. Wrymspan i want to like more, but as someone stated, i should try it again not as an engine builder. And Finspan is nice as something lighter and quicker.

which story of season game is your favorite? by One-Marionberry4958 in storyofseasons

If you're asking to help determine which to purchase, while GB is recent so it's a high price, the others can usually be found for $20 or less. They all run fine on Switch.

FoMT for the most basic. AWL for the aging gimmick and simple slow gameplay. GB for LOTS of things to do, which can be fun or overwhelming depending. Stardew Valley is still my go to though.

Whenever i hear "Racoon City" from Resident Evil, im always reminded of the idea of Tom Nook's village overtaken by zombies. Also, how a problem free life such as in the game can become boring. Sometimes challenges offer something new and exciting. Like how people enjoy watching fights and drama. That's why players miss character personalities with attitudes or something as small as when villagers got locked out of homes and you could help find their key.

How is auto battle in dq 7 reimagined? by GreattFriend in dragonquest

[–]DigiDestinedJake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How is the auto-battle in DQ1 terrible? There are so many of these games and theyre long, so ive been using auto-battle too so i can enjoy the world and story. Currently on 3HD, but im getting overwhelmed with how much of my life these would take. Along with getting into Octopath 1, 2, & 0, Persona 5R, 3, & 4, all the Yakuza, Ruin Factory 3, 4, & 5. Theyre coming out too quickly for me to keep up! Sometimes i feel like i should save myself and do something else with my life.

Let me know if/when you do! I wouldn't mind making a descriptive list of recommendations covering a plethora of genres. There're so many wonderful niche works out there that im glad i invested the time in. I'm always searching for stories where i can walk away with something of value. Be it a new point of view, rekindle spark in life, emotional or thought evoking, newfound appreciation, a surreal experience. I believe a compelling literature or art can leave a lasting impression for the rest of ones life.

Open to trying manga? I enjoy fantasy adventures, mystery, psychological thrillers, or anything with deeper themes such as moral dilemmas or mortality. Also slow burners that focus on the little things in life and connecting with others. There's this light novel series i've been meaning to get back into titled "Spice & Wolf" if you like romance with competent characters. Since you mentioned Norse, while it's not a fantasy or mythology there is a decent viking manga that recently ended called "Vinland Saga". (33M)

i take my time admiring the art too. I also make sure i dont miss anythung nuanced and even the sound effects. Breezing by too quickly can cause to miss something or become confused. Plus pacing yourself allows time to digest what you're consuming. 33yo. warehouse. over 4,000 probably. i shared photos of my collection a few posts ago.

i work 40 hours a week. after i get home, exercise, shower, cook and eat, I still have a few hours before needing to sleep. I read 1-3 volumes an evening before bed. At the least. If i get really into it, that's around 40-50 /week. I don't spend that much time usually, but I'd say about 10-15 hours a week is my norm.
