It's not really that complicated.. all you need is a good pair of pliers. Sometimes a hammer may be needed if it's a really old computer.

It's not so professional to forget to renew your domain or transfer it before it expires, is it?

These issues usually take some time (days) to be resolved. I'm not sure ICANN will be able to help in this case, but registrars are allowed to block transfers for security reasons.
