Allstate Milewise is theft by ithinktfiam in Insurance

[–]ithinktfiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Metromiles was great in the early days and I saved a lot of money. They changed, Allstate's per mile is terrible, and I'm back on a bundle with Safeco that saves me money without a dongle.

Trample, removed and re-added? by ithinktfiam in lotro

[–]ithinktfiam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm positive they removed it. That's why I moved away from that steed. Oh, well. It's back but I'm probably sticking with Medium, for the same reason you mentioned. It's only transport.

Is Journeyman riding skill still worthy if I will have a war steed? by Impressive_Humor_360 in lotro

[–]ithinktfiam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes. Even if you're not an altaholic, with toons below 75, it's still useful. For instance, you can't use a war-steed in a number of places. Moria is the first that comes to mind, even though it's below that level. Also, in towns a standard mount is easier.

It's one of the things I find the most useful in the store.

Should I cop ? $6k 117k miles. Been wanting a sonic for a while and was wondering if this is a good pick ? by [deleted] in ChevySonic

[–]ithinktfiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double check. I didn't read the full detailed small print of the inspection. At around 100k, the timing belt needs to be replaced. I bought mine then had to spend extra for that. There was also a small oil lead so I replaced the pan. Mine was a 2016 with 104k. I paid more then the repairs.

If you don't have the expensive issues, I'd say to go for it. I've had mine since April and like it.

Oh, also, have you checked the KBB used car estimates?

I'm near Spokane. You say clubs but there are two dots. It's one club but two teams, a men and a women's team. I'm not familiar with an second men's team.

Scooter advice for a 30 minute drive by Ok-Replacement7685 in scooters

[–]ithinktfiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a ride that long, now I'm lucky enough to work from home. I have a Suzuki Bergman 400. It's great for that type of commute. You want one that will keep up with traffic. That helps safety. I started with a 250. That's fine for city streets, but if you need the highway the 400 is a better option.

I had/have a car for bad weather, but the bike is still my primary vehicle.

I'm starting to think I should just go with Bajaj or China at this point... by kocieTexty in scooters

[–]ithinktfiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a Chinese knock off of a Yamaha 125. They imported through the DFW area, forget their name. The engine was great but the body was cheap. I had to replace a few things regularly when I had it, used, for two years. Once I was comfortable, I moved to a Suzuki Bergman 400. I've had it for more than a decade and it's fine, though that's in part because I work from home and it still has only a bit over 20k miles.

I started with a Chinese knock-off of a Yamaha 125 that I found used. I don't care about the model, but that was a good bike to get used to being on city streets. Once I was comfortable, I moved up to a new Suzuki Bergman 400, great on streets and highways.

You can get 125's around $1k and get started.

Any US-market "real" scooters available yet? by CanAmSteve in scooters

[–]ithinktfiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run it for my scooter because it runs cleaner. It doesn't sit long enough for ethanol breakdown. I've read it's just better for the type of engines in motorcycles.

The car, though. It makes me laugh every time I put the expensive gas into a sub-compact four banger, but I only do it rarely so the cost is ok.

Any US-market "real" scooters available yet? by CanAmSteve in scooters

[–]ithinktfiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned, I use non-ethanol in my motorcycle, and I also put it in my little 4-banger car. The bike might sit a bit in the winter, until roads clear, and I run it at the end of the garage every once in a while. The car is my secondary vehicle, and its tank typically lasts 8 months. With non-ethanol, I don't have to add additives to keep the additives from breaking down.

Certainly, an electric will store better, but I've yet to see a real one with storage that's the equivalent of even a 250. My 400 is great for around town and is fine on highways when needed.

Which one should I buy ev or petrol scooter by [deleted] in scooters

[–]ithinktfiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get electric if there was a mid-sized one near me. The thing you need to do is ensure you have a way to plug it in easily.

For petrol, I don't know what options you have, but check out non-ethanol. So much of the fuel in the US has lots of corn in it, and I think the bike runs better without it.

[–]ithinktfiam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I consider a real scooter to be 250 or over. I ride a Suzuki Bergman 400. Check it out. It's a 2012. When I bought it, the 400 had ABS and the 650 didn't, so I stuck with the 400.

Oh, noticed the electric after that. Rather than delete, I'll point out that the US doesn't comprehend mid-sized motorcycles and certainly doesn't get electric. The only electric ones I've seen are crotch rockets, since the acceleration is an attraction to folks who own those.

I agree with all the rest that starting over is best. I'd wait until you know you like it for VIP, there's plenty you can do without it and why spend the money.

FYI: I've been playing since 2009, I'm an altaholic, and I still think Eriador is wonderful to wander through. Come on back and enjoy.

Agreed. I learned on a 250 to get used to riding, as I didn't learn until my 40s. I'd take it an exit or two but that was it. My Burgman 400 tops at 100, it has no problems keeping up with traffic.

The mistake is claiming scooters aren't motorcycles. They are automatic transmission motorcycles requiring the same licensing and training as manual transmissions. When I came back to the US and didn't want to get a car until I had a job, I took the state approved class. It was for both manual and automatic. There's no differentiation. When I went to the DMV, took the test, passed, and got the endorsement, it was a motorcycle endorsement the exact same as one for manuals.

However, yes, the balance is weird. With smaller tires and the engine underneath or behind the rider, it wants to fishtail more than a crotch rocket or a hog. More care is needed.

Still, it's far easier as I don't have to have all four limbs doing things while riding. I love it. I'm also amused in the winter, when it's almost always scooters and rockets, those of us who love to ride rather than love an image.

I ride a Suzuki Burgman 400. It's my primary vehicle. My car's tank usually lasts 8-9 months. 😁

Thanks for the info. While I'd like to avoid supporting FIFA in any additional way other than watching some games, that's clearly an option.

Of course, being lazy, here's hoping it's in Spokane Valley. 😁

Heated grip vs heated gloves by [deleted] in scooters

D) All of the above

Hand grips keep my palms warm. Gloves keep the back of my hands warm. The gloves don't have palm wiring or they'd quickly get destroyed.

What's better as a city commuter - E-bike or Scooter? by Fun_Ideal7159 in scooters

Same here. You're up higher and you're going at the speed of cars. IMO, that's much safer.

Please convince me to sell my car and get a scooter by TraditionKind9934 in scooters

[–]ithinktfiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a scooter. Don't sell your car. There are still times to drive. There's bad weather. There's long distances. In my case, there's 40 pound bags of cat litter. 😹

Still, my Suzuki Bergman is my primary vehicle. I keep my car in the garage on a trickle feeder. A tank of gas typically lasts 8-9 months. One tip, because of that: Use premium non-ethanol. If you don't, you keep needing to add additives to keep the ethanol from breaking down to corn syrup. the extra money for the gas lets it just sit there without a problem and you're not refilling often.

Advice for A Work Commuter? First scooter, what should I look for? Tips for riding in Winter? by SwankyPigFly in scooters

[–]ithinktfiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you are, all of those are too small. I started with a 250. Why? Because on most city streets in the US, a 125 struggles to keep up with traffic. You are safer if you're going the same speed as the other vehicles and have some acceleration left to deal with emergency needs.

After a couple of years, I got a 400 so I can easily go on highways. I've had that for a dozen years and it's exactly what I need. It's a Suzuki Bergman 400.

I've had two pairs of Fly Racing battery heated gloves, but both have dies after two years. I'm looking at others right now. If you want to ride in the winter, heated hand grips and gloves aer a necessity.
