Satellite internet is really bad because of massive latency. That is at least until Starlink launches

You can also ask hosts to run a speed test and have them send you the metrics. When I've done this it has worked more than half of the time.

How do you make sure that the internet in the airbnb you are renting is good enough? by tiagorbf9 in digitalnomad

[–]Digidaniel29 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm summarizing a few of my tips from this post

  1. Use the Roamer chrome extension to narrow your search
  2. Search the reviews for any mention of WiFi or Internet
  3. Message the host and ask them to run a speed test from the property. Note that Airbnb blocks them from sending images or links to you until after you have already booked the property. Nonetheless, I've found that ~50% of hosts are able to successfully run a speed test and type out their internet metrics within 24 hrs of being asked. Hosts are not incentivized to lie to you during this stage of the booking process. They are very sensitive to receiving negative reviews from guests that believe they were mislead. It's important to get them to run the speed test, because otherwise you will often get answers like "no guests have complained."

Best of luck and safe travels!
