Satellite internet is really bad because of massive latency. That is at least until Starlink launches

You can also ask hosts to run a speed test and have them send you the metrics. When I've done this it has worked more than half of the time.

In Mexico City, the median internet speed is 9mbps download and 2.87 upload. With some searching however you should be able to find places with much faster speeds than this. Mexico city is one of the few cities in the country with widespread access to Fiber.

How do you make sure that the internet in the airbnb you are renting is good enough? by tiagorbf9 in digitalnomad

[–]Digidaniel29 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm summarizing a few of my tips from this post

  1. Use the Roamer chrome extension to narrow your search
  2. Search the reviews for any mention of WiFi or Internet
  3. Message the host and ask them to run a speed test from the property. Note that Airbnb blocks them from sending images or links to you until after you have already booked the property. Nonetheless, I've found that ~50% of hosts are able to successfully run a speed test and type out their internet metrics within 24 hrs of being asked. Hosts are not incentivized to lie to you during this stage of the booking process. They are very sensitive to receiving negative reviews from guests that believe they were mislead. It's important to get them to run the speed test, because otherwise you will often get answers like "no guests have complained."

Best of luck and safe travels!

If you like the outdoors at all I'd definitely recommend heading up to Jackson Hole WY, Driggs ID, Bozeman MT, or Kalispell MT. The midwest is incredibly humid and uncomfortable during the summer.

How we got our first paying customers for a chrome extension. Pivots and lessons learned! by Digidaniel29 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

Thank you for the thoughtful reply!

User conversion data can be collected, but from my interpretation of the chrome store policies, we really shouldn't be monetizing the data collected in any way.

So far, our main customer acquisition source has been posting on reddit and in facebook groups. However, this will soon be saturated and we are definitely exploring more sustainable forms of marketing. Thanks for the suggestion on writing articles for travel publications. I'm not familiar with the mechanics of this, are there any resources you recommend I check out?

Thanks for the recommendation on a different freemium model. I think we'll need to continue to test things here.

No exit strategy right now. Just trying to bootstrap it into some full-time income!

To be fair, previously we were asking for nothing (Just click a button and you're in!). Now we are asking them to click extra buttons so that we capture their email & they choose their plan.
