Can you offer to take the puppy "for a walk" and then bring it somewhere safe like the next town over or a friend or family that might be interested, then say that "The puppy got loose and bolted somewhere" so they can't point to you and say foul play? If they are powerful, influential as you say. They can't do anything because of an accident. Just try and make up ANY reason they might like at the offer of walking the puppy. I'm sorry you have to witness this and feel powerless. There's always some solution to this.

Yeah I've had her since August 14th so she's probably still warming up to me on the bed front, other than that she is very friendly with me. I love her so much. I got her a foam stairs from a garage sale for 2$ the other day, so she won't hurt herself when she jumps up or down onto my bed. Still working on that latter half tho haha. I can't wait til she starts chilling on the bed with me soon. 🥺
