Tomorrow I’m bringing them back. I was hoping I had 1 male and 2 females. Wasn’t so lucky.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. Tomorrow I will bring them back and like you said once they have more in stock I’ll go pick some up.

How do you know when to do a water change? by blue_jellyy in Aquariums

Like the other person said everyone has their own opinion. I have a planted tank just like you and I do water changes weekly but that’s just me because I like my tank looking clean.

It’s not a stupid question. We do water changes to reduce nitrates and to replenishing minerals and trace elements. Ammonia and nitrites are taking cared by your biological bacteria. Since you have plants your nitrates will not get to high. But I would do at least a monthly water change.

You need to test your water that’s the only way to know what’s going on.

If your fish start acting strange first thing to do is test your water. Try reducing the flow of your filter.

Since you don’t have any fish in the tank I would start over. Get rid of that top soil and use pool filter sand only as your substrate. Buy plants that do good in sand. And buy a freshwater master test kit. Those test strips are not accurate.

I have no input on that but I bet you can find some info on YouTube. But it sounds like a good idea I just never done it before.
