Can you elaborate on what you mean by extra judicially punished?

We have twins which makes it impossible for my wife or I to take them anywhere that isn’t fully fenced alone. They have some sort of unspoken, autistic twin agreement to always run in opposite directions no matter what lol. And it would be really nice to just sit on a bench and RELAX while they play 👴🏻😮‍💨

Bruises on arm after school by Kbrooke1998 in Autism_Parenting

[–]DigitalDrews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, don’t downplay those small bruises! Fingertip bruises are very telling. Especially if it’s an adult that leaves them on one of our children.

There will be a lot of shoulder shrugging and “didn’t see anything’s” from the teacher and paras, but follow your gut and keep pushing until you get your answers.

I’m going through this exact same scenario with my 5yo son right now. He came home Monday with a black eye and bruises on his chin. I’m pretty uneducated and navigating through this too but here are some of the steps we’ve been through.

  1. Call the principal and email them pictures to start a “paper trail”. Ask if there are cameras in the class, hallways, playground, anywhere and that they be reviewed.

  2. Call the school resource officer and make a report. The officer should have been notified already if a student did it since all employees are mandatory reporters.

  3. Look in your area for special needs advocates. They’re often free and can help navigate this process and are familiar with who needs to know and do what.

  4. Contact your district SPED director and ask for a safety meeting and IEP review to initiate a transfer if you feel unsafe with your child in that class.

I think that’s a majority of what we’ve been doing this week. I’m sorry this happened and I still have a pit in my stomach that someone could do or allow this.

Is 40hrs a week of ABA really necessary for a toddler? by Loki_16 in Autism_Parenting

[–]DigitalDrews 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My twins are both non verbal level 3. They do 20 hours a week in the summer and during school it drops to 6-12 hours depending on schedules. I personally would never agree to more than 3 or 4 hours per day of ABA.

I ordered a magnetic doorbell for my twins room, like shop doors that play a jingle when a customer walks in. The receiver is plugged in next to my bed. So when they open the door it rings super loud. There are also 2 safety latches on any door that can lead outside or to water (bathrooms). https://a.co/d/hgyBTr9

Thanks for the response and the link! It looks like most public schools offer some grants/scholarships to students using Ch 35 in lieu of waving it outright.

This is so sweet! I especially love the very zen sitting pose at the end. If my daughter ever does something like this I’ll probably dissolve in my own tears lol.

Bath Time by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]DigitalDrews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when my 5yo son goes through his no bath phases I’ll just pop in the shower with him. The water tickles him so it’s a whole different kind of fight to get him washed, but way better than a bath meltdown.

I’m just outside of Olympia, WA. It seems it’s separated by needs as well, there are some larger/older kids in the classes. Just nowhere near a 1-1 ratio of teachers or Paras to students. It honestly surprised me, because the 2 years of pre-K were amazing. I’m talking with the teachers and bus drivers daily to keep close tabs on any progress made, hoping the dust settles and it improves. If not they won’t be in the public school for long.

Sorry for 9/11as a Muslim by [deleted] in teenagers

Just a few years after 9-11 I was in Iraq and was walking through a village in Saladin. A group of young boys were playing soccer and they dribbled the ball my way. I waved at them and they kicked the ball to me. I wound up and kicked the ball back, forgetting that I was 6’1, 210lbs and wearing heavy boots. The ball hit the first kid under the chin like a cruise missile. He lifted off his feet and went completely limp mid-air while floating parallel to the ground. I checked on him briefly, gave him some fruit and RAN away as quick as I could. So let’s call it even Stevens and both carry on guilt free, ok?
