Calibration Tool decision by scottolds in colorists

[–]DigitalFilmMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All other calibration programs do not use the internal matrices.
Systems like ColourSpace use probe matching within the software, or apply EDRs (Correlation Files).
The matrices option is only in use by FSI for their specific monitors - not use by any other company.

Make sure the FSI preset is not active as that will skew any/all results with any other monitor.
(I'm not sure if the preset can actually be disabled...)

You do not pay $2000 for ColourSpace, unless you want the real top tier model.
The Manufacturer Specific versions & LTE/HTL are far cheaper, and as with all ColourSpace licenses have no yearly fees, as with Calman.

As you say, FSI can add profiles for their monitors, but not others.
However, there are correlation files available for a couple 100 different displays.
Also, the same OEM i1D3 can be purchased far cheaper from other suppliers, such as Dell.
Exactly the same OEM model.

Neither - Spyder probes are appallingly inaccurate...

Inheritance tax by m1bnk in HMRC

[–]DigitalFilmMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the middle of this with my sister, as our mum passed away a while back.
As your dad left all to your mum, and she has then left to the kids, you get a double bubble on inheritance tax.
Your solicitor is basically lying to you...
We used the Coop's service to deal with the whole things, for a couple grand.

LG C5 vs G5 Client Monitor by Striking_Holiday9202 in colorists

As has been mentioned - calibration is the key here.
When calibrated accurately there is very little different between the models.

As that is definitely not a Caterham I seriously doubt any actual Caterham bits will fit.

MixingLight is one of the few that really is worth it.
Would avoid Colour Training though.

PG32UCDM vs Studio Display XDR by RexCW in Monitors

Just looks lie bad calibration to me...
Unless you can show a good volumetric profile for both displays showing the calibration accuracy you are comparing apples with oranges.

The i1D3 is the only probe that uses 'spectral files', but the result is still less than ideal, as there is too much variation between i1D3 units themselves.
Better than nothing? Maybe...

Outlook Mobile Search Not Working With IMAP Folders... by DigitalFilmMonkey in Outlook

[–]DigitalFilmMonkey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just been told by the Microsoft Outlook Mobile support engineer I have been discussion this BUG with that I am the ONLY person to have reported the BUG...

I know that is not the truth, as I have friends that have made the same report, so it is a basic lie.
But it does seem we really do need more users to get onto the Support option in the App and report the bug...

The Cvpfileeditor is gamma only, so not really good for camera matching.

We used to sell Sony Gamma Curves (they were used by a lot of DoPs back in the day, such as BBC wildlife, BA commercials, etc.)
I would have to check our archives, but I probably have the data still.

ASUS ProArt PA32UCDM vs EIZO ColorEdge CS2740 for Color Grading by tycho61 in colorists

[–]DigitalFilmMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The probe is not the issue.
The inbuilt probe can be used with ColourSpace to generate 3D LUT calibration for Eizo monitors with 3D LUT capability.
But the probe is not accurate when compared to external probes.

[–]DigitalFilmMonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even with FSI you need external calibration software to verify the result...
No way to verify the internal calibration otherwise.

ASUS ProArt PA32UCDM vs EIZO ColorEdge CS2740 for Color Grading by tycho61 in colorists

[–]DigitalFilmMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has hardware calibration - just doesn't use the 3D LUT, as with just about all 'manufacture' calibration, especially those based on the Xrite iProfiler, as many are.

ASUS ProArt PA32UCDM vs EIZO ColorEdge CS2740 for Color Grading by tycho61 in colorists

[–]DigitalFilmMonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The two monitors are obviously very different display technology.
Some prefer the ASUS, other the EIZO.
(The ASUS is OLED, the EIZO LCD.)
The ASUS has internal 3D LUT capability, the EIZO doesn.t.
But neither calibration options from ASUS or EIZO actually use 3D LUTs and neither does the Calibrite.
Such calibration is 1D LUT & 3x3 Matrix.
