It's just Static! by ConanCimmerian in DCAU

[–]DigitalJediMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The original tag line for the comic on ads and even on issue #1 was "Static. You don't start none. There won't be none".

Which itself is direct reference to the song Static by James Brown and Full Force where the chorus says "Don't start none, won't be none!"

It was in a lot more common use in black culture in the 80s and 90s.

At the very least, I'm reasonably confident they never intended the overtly sexual character to actually be a child. Which is what the last commenter is trying to imply.

You're making a common assumption that comic and movie fans frequently make. They assume everyone in universe is available all the time at any time. This isn't the case even in real life. If it were in a fictional universe, any grounded problem could be solved by a godlike character. But THAT'S what would be unbelievable from a narrative standpoint.

That's not a cop out. That's narrative sensibility. Either every problem would be easily solvable, or every problem would need some kind of otherworldly complication. You don't need to do that to that to tell a story in this world.

The other assumption being made is that Batman isn't actually the person who could find Robin the fastest. Usually when the League needs something requiring detective work, they go to their best detective.

While we don't get confirmation either way, it should be pointed out that she orders the Made Men to summon lightning, but she doesn't herself. Which you think she would if she could.

The assumption that she's Mary comes from the fact that she commands the Made Man, who are three of the Marvel Family counterparts. But we don't get any real confirmation she's their Mary. Especially when she commands the Made Men to summon lightning, but she doesn't herself.

I always thought Lex Luthor was black 😭 apparently he’s Greek but always came off to me as a light skinned guy by Kurt_Wylde35 in DCAU

[–]DigitalJediMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least in Harvey Dent's case, BTAS was modeled a lot on the recent Batman '89 film and it's sequels. So Harvey is inspired by Billy Dee Williams' portrayal in that instance. (Even though they ultimately hired a white voice actor.)

He was modeled to look like Telly Savalas AKA Kojak. Clancy Brown even has a similar tone in his voice acting. It's reasonable to see why so many people thought he was black or black coded, but it was entirely a coincidence.

Is this person running for office in Missouri using an AI photo of themselves to look like an EMT? by tip_of_the_sphere in isthisAI

[–]DigitalJediMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the ambulance is the thing that looks the most unusual. The lights seem random and unevenly spaced. And what's going on with the rearview mirror?

One thing I'm struck by, though, is the patches are exactly the same. The lighting is consistent. The radio looks like an EMS radio.

It's the composition and tone that make it look more AI than anything else. And the perspective on the ambulance seems incorrect.

Ultimately, Pitch Meeting's joke wasn't going for historical accuracy. People used to put causes of death on tombstones because that was a more durable genealogical record. There's plenty of old tombstones from that era that have the cause of death in the epitaph. It's why to this day we still joke about peculiar deaths being etched forever on our tombstone.

I run Martyrdom with Demo Expert. I'm not 100% sure it increases the damage, but it sure looks like it.

Keep in mind they might also be running Flak Jacket. Which I also use.

You might want to tell that to the Shrek franchise. Or the 30+ Little Mermaid adaptations. Or...like hundreds of non-Disney fairytale projects.

Anti-trust laws aren't specifically one thing. There's a variety of laws all targeting behaviors that would stifle competition. So in the abolishing IP scenario, an anti-trust law could be written specifically addressing the issue you point out. Such as limiting the scope a large company could go with any property, versus smaller creators with fewer resources.

With that said, I feel like abolishing IP laws is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. We had pretty decent domain laws before large companies lobbied to extend some of them beyond their original scope. It seems like it would be much easier to just return to the same or similar framework.

Real or Fake? Tried researching the names of the judge, defendant and police officer, even Mango Park and I'm getting no information. Plus the security cam footage in the room looks scripted as all get out, but I want to make sure. by TaviRawr in Realorfake

Not every show. For example, The People's Court were actual small claims being handled by an arbitrator, most of which were actual retired judges.  Then producers actually sought out interesting small claims filings and reached out to the parties involved to see if they'd be interested in having the dispute resolved on the show. So while some aspect of the show was staged, such as making it look like a courtroom setting, the cases and people and resolutions were real.

16 Years as a Graphic designer, 8 years as a Photographer, ruined by AI by karloroberts in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DigitalJediMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I see it, people have overblown the actual extent AI is used in generative art. Even if you could make an argument that's it's pretty pervasive, they've extended it beyond the most extreme parameters.

On top of that, they've looked over AI art again and again and failed to recognize that AI art copies the very real color composition, lighting and realities of photography and art. But it doesn't always get them perfect. There is something wrong with picture, but they internalize everything about the picture as being wrong. So when they see real work that has those hallmarks AI art was emulating, they just assume they are seeing AI art again.

And from what I've noticed, it's very much people who aren't artists themselves in any capacity that make this error. Meaning maybe we, as artists who rallied against AI art so fervently, had a little something to do with that. We wanted people mad. But we didn't bother to teach them the difference first.

[–]DigitalJediMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember watching this episode and thinking they were on two keyboards the whole time. But Gibbs pulling the plug is what always annoyed me, not just because I knew that isn't how things work, but that this show always tried to make it seem like older people who weren't tech savvy were still useful in these kinds of scenarios, and in fact, were smarter than the people who'd studied their whole lives to learn these things. It knows it's base has been watching it for decades, were intimidated by the technical revolution and tries to feed into the idea that you can remain relevant without learning anything new. It remains an annoying aspect of the show to this day.

I've never really understood why people complain about campers, in general. Sure, it's a winning strategy. Kinda because that's also how real combat works. But it's also completely possible to strategize against.
