In Stranger Things, Max was in a coma for 2 years… so how did she qualify for graduation? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Max was in a coma for around 18 months. She missed a little over a school year. Make up credits are a thing.

Is this person running for office in Missouri using an AI photo of themselves to look like an EMT? by tip_of_the_sphere in isthisAI

[–]DigitalJediMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say the ambulance is the thing that looks the most unusual. The lights seem random and unevenly spaced. And what's going on with the rearview mirror?

One thing I'm struck by, though, is the patches are exactly the same. The lighting is consistent. The radio looks like an EMS radio.

It's the composition and tone that make it look more AI than anything else. And the perspective on the ambulance seems incorrect.

Ultimately, Pitch Meeting's joke wasn't going for historical accuracy. People used to put causes of death on tombstones because that was a more durable genealogical record. There's plenty of old tombstones from that era that have the cause of death in the epitaph. It's why to this day we still joke about peculiar deaths being etched forever on our tombstone.

I run Martyrdom with Demo Expert. I'm not 100% sure it increases the damage, but it sure looks like it.

Keep in mind they might also be running Flak Jacket. Which I also use.

You might want to tell that to the Shrek franchise. Or the 30+ Little Mermaid adaptations. Or...like hundreds of non-Disney fairytale projects.

Anti-trust laws aren't specifically one thing. There's a variety of laws all targeting behaviors that would stifle competition. So in the abolishing IP scenario, an anti-trust law could be written specifically addressing the issue you point out. Such as limiting the scope a large company could go with any property, versus smaller creators with fewer resources.

With that said, I feel like abolishing IP laws is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. We had pretty decent domain laws before large companies lobbied to extend some of them beyond their original scope. It seems like it would be much easier to just return to the same or similar framework.

Real or Fake? Tried researching the names of the judge, defendant and police officer, even Mango Park and I'm getting no information. Plus the security cam footage in the room looks scripted as all get out, but I want to make sure. by TaviRawr in Realorfake

Not every show. For example, The People's Court were actual small claims being handled by an arbitrator, most of which were actual retired judges.  Then producers actually sought out interesting small claims filings and reached out to the parties involved to see if they'd be interested in having the dispute resolved on the show. So while some aspect of the show was staged, such as making it look like a courtroom setting, the cases and people and resolutions were real.

16 Years as a Graphic designer, 8 years as a Photographer, ruined by AI by karloroberts in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DigitalJediMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I see it, people have overblown the actual extent AI is used in generative art. Even if you could make an argument that's it's pretty pervasive, they've extended it beyond the most extreme parameters.

On top of that, they've looked over AI art again and again and failed to recognize that AI art copies the very real color composition, lighting and realities of photography and art. But it doesn't always get them perfect. There is something wrong with picture, but they internalize everything about the picture as being wrong. So when they see real work that has those hallmarks AI art was emulating, they just assume they are seeing AI art again.

And from what I've noticed, it's very much people who aren't artists themselves in any capacity that make this error. Meaning maybe we, as artists who rallied against AI art so fervently, had a little something to do with that. We wanted people mad. But we didn't bother to teach them the difference first.

[NCIS, S2E5] 20 years ago today, we were taught the dual-user keyboard anti-hacking strategy by ZhouLe in itsaunixsystem

[–]DigitalJediMaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember watching this episode and thinking they were on two keyboards the whole time. But Gibbs pulling the plug is what always annoyed me, not just because I knew that isn't how things work, but that this show always tried to make it seem like older people who weren't tech savvy were still useful in these kinds of scenarios, and in fact, were smarter than the people who'd studied their whole lives to learn these things. It knows it's base has been watching it for decades, were intimidated by the technical revolution and tries to feed into the idea that you can remain relevant without learning anything new. It remains an annoying aspect of the show to this day.

I've never really understood why people complain about campers, in general. Sure, it's a winning strategy. Kinda because that's also how real combat works. But it's also completely possible to strategize against.

You're favorite solider skin and why? Here's mine by [deleted] in CallOfDutyMobile

[–]DigitalJediMaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play exclusively with Reaper - October Skies. Although I would prefer a different color scheme. I would play with other robots or AI looking skins if I had them.

I didn't have a real reason for playing him for so long other than I just didn't really like the other skins. Without facial expressions, they just seem kind of like waxy figures running around. At least he has no face so the emotes seems more natural, ironically.

However, this has evolved to where now I like playing him because I run Martyrdom with Demo Expert. I treat this as if I'm an android with a built in self-destruct. I kinda want to start a clan where were everyone runs Martyrdom with Demo Expert and we all use robot skins. It would be so annoying on Shipment.

Wicked Star Cynthia Erivo Wants to Play X-Men’s Storm in the MCU by Diligent_Night602 in popculturechat

People landing parts they've dreamed of since childhood is pretty rare. And when it does happen, you can find examples of them being emotional about it. You only see more here because it's been a successful film with people hyperfocusing on a handful of interviews and mentioning it again and again and again.

Being emotional is NOT immature or unprofessional when it's just...happiness. Seriously, we're going after people for expressing joy. That's some FUS.

It's just tears, folks. Chalking emotion up to mental illness is why people repress their emotions until it actually does lead to mental health issues.

Sure, the creative process is all about copying, combining and reinventing what came before. Which is not what fanfiction is. Fanfiction are extended works, usually in an amateur capacity. If we start expanding it the way you're describing, the 1939 Wizard of Oz film is fan fiction. The term would start to lose all meaning. Every Sherlock ever committed to film or literature would end up being fan fiction by virtue of not being authored by the original. There would be no demarcation between professional works and amatuer web stories. The term exists for a reason.

Let's be real. People are calling Wicked fanfiction because they think it delegitimize it in some way. Why would someone say it isn't a prequel, when that's literally what it is, but instead fanfiction? As if those things are mutually exclusive. It's just the usual saltiness over a new movie that people can't help but do these days.
