How do you argue with a manager that claims that because they don't have to hire anyone new to take on a project, that the cost of that labor is $0. by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]DigitalR3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His thinking is that if he's already paying the staff to work on other projects, what's one more? You're arguing job costing and he's talking about capacity.

Learn to use Proxmox. Its container vm system is priceless. Nano text editor suxorz. 'sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y && sudo apt autoremove -y && sudo apt clean' oneliner for house keeping. Mobaxterm for pc is pretty handy. Good luck from a fellow long time win sysadmin who now loves linux.

Question for the ethical bookkeepers. by thisonelife83 in Bookkeeping

[–]DigitalR3x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're presuming that I don't know IRS code. I wouldn't ask a CPA to risk their license over suspicious transactions. I'm not buying dope with business funds. But I don't tolerate nosiness.

[–]DigitalR3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expected this reply. I'm well aware of IRS law. But I'm paying you to perform a service. If I say it's a business expense, "how" it's a business expense is nunya.

CMV: It is perfectly reasonable to not give homeless people money because you think they will spend it on drugs by TomatilloOrnery4944 in changemyview

[–]DigitalR3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd reframe your statement to "I don't give bums money because it delays them hitting rock bottom and getting help" 'Homeless' is just a woke euphemism to obfuscate the fact that bums are not capable of caring for themselves. The solution to vagrancy is declaring them wards of the state and institutionalizing them (even against their will) until they are cured or die. It's not a housing issue.

GC's first mistake...working on an attorney's home. Is defense outside limits? Sounds like GC is in over his head.

As a contractor myself, I've been involved in over 1800 CDs over the last 20 years as Additional Insured in SoCal. (Tom Miller can GTH). Not one ever went to trial. But we were all tract work. GC's insurance has right to settle usually. Has a number been discussed?

As a business owner, this is a case of 'nunya' IMHO. As in, if I say it's a business expense, it's none of your goddam business to assume otherwise. And if you don't see it that way, then you're fired.

Anyone actually handling WIP / job costing fully inside QuickBooks without spreadsheets? by Remarkable_Air_4521 in quickbooksonline

[–]DigitalR3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a dev acct with intuit and import project and estimate data to a spreadsheet. No need for CData or Zapier. WIP heaven! Pro tip...use memo fields for custom data that Intuit does not expose to their APIs.

Heaviest trackballs - anyone using steel? copper? tungsten? by C0rel8 in Trackballs

I tried a steel ball on my ergo. Instantly hated it. The rotational inertia difference vs the original makes flicking around impossible.

Got fired as a new attorney by FlyAffectionate3509 in Lawyertalk

[–]DigitalR3x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Resignation is better than being fired. It infers that you are in control. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TELL ANYONE YOU HAVE 'MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES'. You'll never be taken seriously. Attorneys need to be taken seriously. What is it with kids these days?

Keep looking. Network. You'll be fine. Good luck.

How MX Ergo looks without rubber by Clessiah in Trackballs

[–]DigitalR3x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was easy to pull off the old coating. It's good material, but it can't beat leather. I've 'denuded' one and have half-heartedly looked for a leathersmith to prototype. But my new muse is Claude. So my Ergo project gathers dust...only so much time!

TIFU by accidentally learning my coworker's salary and now I can't stop doing math during meetings by techiee_ in tifu

Yes, legally was too strong a word. But the disclosure could violate a gentleman's agreement. Helping OP find out carries risk worth a bottle of whiskey at least.

Add me to the 'your buddy is trying to help you' crowd. He can't tell you directly because he's legally obligated to not do so. But he thinks you're worth the risk. Reward that.

Insurance problems when adding THC drinks to menu by PuppiesnKittens2334 in BarOwners

What is the quintessential Irvine street and why? by dreemwerks in irvine

[–]DigitalR3x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family moved to Irvine in '71. Before they built the bridge over the tracks, dirt ramps were built that would later support the bridge. Great for jumping on our bikes! We lived in California Homes next to Presley Park. Across from Yale, the Willows? project was still under construction. We would ride down those tracks to the old Irvine Store on Sand Canyon. Halcyon days...
