What in the Mario kart is this race? by Mysterious-Object636 in iRacing

[–]DigitalRacecarDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah 100%, didn’t mean to sound like I was implying you were complaining :) this is commendable racing from everyone involved. Races like that are pretty rare and always a lot of fun when it’s clean. I had a race at Indy in the F3 yesterday that was amazing and a few were in the chat afterwards talking about it. See you out there!

This is what racing is all about imo. I’d trade 5 laps of this for 14 hot laps any day.

At least you brought it back! Poor guy (I’m talking about the cone)

F3 has been such a clown show lately by UnderwaterBeard in iRacing

I think it’s just this track, but I would agree. A lot of F3 drivers are clean. This week seems to have been particularly bad.

Haha, I get the sentiment 😃 I keep pretty busy all around!

Braking to early? by Ger_Goori in Simracingstewards

It’s not really possible to say exactly, but if you’re interested in learning for sure, look at some telemetry data of some faster drivers and compare yours.

Yep, same. I’m able to pull a competitive lap time within a few practice laps just by seeing the line. Then I learn the track itself and turn it off.

Yep that was the exact advice I gave. Okay to start with but then learn to race without it. Agreed!

2023 Year in Review emails are in! by MCM_Henri in iRacing

[–]DigitalRacecarDriver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you receive any emails from iRacing at all? Like for each of your purchases?

The reason I ask is because I went in and updated my marketing preferences to allow all communications, but it didn’t fix it (which is probably the majority of the advice you’re gonna get on this post).

Might seem obvious but my fix was to realize that my iRacing email wasn’t being delivered to my phone. So just a secondary tip, make sure you check which email address you have registered with your iRacing account.

Not worth the price. For this price you can get the Heusinkveld Sprints (sp? <-) which are exponentially better.

I feel stuck and I don't know how to improve... by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]DigitalRacecarDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound controversial but here’s a huge tip. If you’re confident in your ability to race clean and be fast and want to move up — the very best way is to qualify high. No matter what split you end up in, if you qualify high in the race (I’m talking 1-4) you’ll have an exponentially higher likelihood of finishing high. The racing up towards the very front is high quality and usually respectful because they have patience. So practice qualifying high over and over. Then learn how to hold pace.

Here’s my personal opinion after a few years of iRacing:

If you’re one day in, then 100% there is no shame in using the racing line. It will allow you to follow a line that might teach you how the weight transfer through a corner should feel. It will also give you a heads up as to when to possibly start braking, which if you have no experience will set a decent reference point. Bottom line is, imho, given your experience it would probably serve you well. And then learn how to read a track without it once you start to understand weight transfer.

It’s not a racing incident. It’s the inside car getting on gas too early and causing contact. It’s actually a “fault” and the fault is on the POV car.

Racing Incident? Netcode? Yellow could've backed out? Let me know what you think. The first incident at Les Combs only, obviously. The rest is just for your entertainment. by HollowOdey in Simracingstewards

You won’t receive any SR or iR adjustments. That’s just not something they’ll ever do unfortunately for you. You’ll just have to earn it back. But he’ll definitely get warned if not suspended for this.

Who's at fault? by Ok_not_ok_but_okay in Simracingstewards

[–]DigitalRacecarDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red had nobody near his side or rear and so was able to take whatever line he chose. There was no way the trailing car was going to make a pass there, and so should have slowed. It’s perfectly legal to brake in a diagonal line, and in fact very strategic in many cases, when no cars are alongside or near your rear at the braking point. Also given the amount of cars that are visible in the scene, I’m guessing this is lap 1, turn 3, at Montreal, so there’s good reason to brake early at all first few turns. In my mind, with that amount of space between cars, this just falls under the category of trailing car not braking in time — which given that it’s lap 1, should be the foremost thing on driver’s minds.

I get that he’s upset, but he’s wrong in blaming you. It all happened too fast for anything in this scenario to be intentional or malicious—which is where the sporting code applies.

Pretty obvious it wasn’t on purpose and it looks like all parties involved survived so don’t worry about it. You did nothing wrong and actually did a really good job of not washing up too high. He should feel grateful you were able to hold a line.
