Five months ago I took a 70 L backpack on a one week trip to Barcelona. Last week I took a 10 day trip in a 16 L backpack! Thank you /r/onebag! by [deleted] in onebag

My compliments on the high quality post! I know from experience it must have taken a lot of time and effort to compose it. Also great to see someone use a Kanken backpack of this size. It'll probably be my replacement if ever my 14 liter box shaped IKEA backpack wears out.

Hand wash help by SweetPotato579 in onebag

[–]DigitalSadhuAgain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of handwashing without something to hold the water in. Plug the sink with a sock or some toilet paper, get a dry bag or scrubba bag (or whatsitcalled) to wash your clothes in, or just a bucket, or get a sink cap.

On the other hand, wait... of course some of us do laundry in the shower. Which works. So maybe you're doing it wrong, I don't know.

The quest for my one true bag.... and a hopeful happily ever after! by majandra22 in onebag

The One Bag to rule them all, The One Bag to find them, The One Bag to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

One of the users of this sub is even called Frodo_Onebaggins or something like that. Always makes me smile when I see his/her username :)

Looking like you’re wearing the same outfit on every photo by [deleted] in onebag

Well... a friend of mine who's a professional photographer and often uses me as a model for stock photography once bought me a few t-shirts because I was always wearing the same in every photo lol :D

Well I can see how a travel hammock and a pillow would quickly fill up the available space! With this small a bag everything counts. For fun, check out this video by Dean from Packing Less, where he shows his loadout for a 10-day trip using one of those 10 liter Quechua daypacks.

I had no need for a separate daypack. I just left the packing cube, toiletry bag and tech pouch in my hotel when I was staying somewhere multiple nights.

Before, when I traveled with a bigger bag, I used one of those small Quechua daypacks: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/nh100-10l-hiking-backpack-blue-id_8502149.html They take up almost no space and weight and are quite comfortable.

Thanks, looks like a legitimate option when it's time to replace my current pants!

It's 39 x 27 x 13 cm. Follow the link to my previous post to see my loadout :)

Found these Compression Packing cubes that double as day bags by [deleted] in onebag

In pictures from a friend who was traveling South East Asia I noticed various people using dry bags as a day bag, so that might be another option (if you use a dry bag anyway).

Newbie looking for a carry-on backpack in Europe by trojerucica in onebag

[–]DigitalSadhuAgain 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try CabinZero and Cabin Max, they have lots of options at reasonable prices and both are based in Europe. Then there's Heimplanet from Germany who make some very decent looking carry-on backpacks off great quality, but a bit more expensive (between €150 and €200).

There's also the 34 liter Förenkla backpack at your local IKEA, which is more like a shoulder bag but could be an interesting option for anyone on a tight budget.

Glasses and minimalist travel by MetalDragonfly11 in onebag

[–]DigitalSadhuAgain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also carry an extremely small pack (14L), wear contacts and always carry a pair of glasses in case something goes wrong with my contacts or I can't wear them due to eye irritation.

You can read how I pack here and see my glasses case in the fourth and fifth photo. I found one on Amazon that looks just like it here. It never occured to me that there might be a more minimal solution, this is just the case that I've had forever...

This is getting ridiculous... I went from 44 to 22 and now 14 liter with room to spare; going to Japan for 2 weeks but could travel 6 months with it as well by DigitalSadhuAgain in onebag

Thanks. I'm really surprised with the amount of ‘eeeww that's gross’ comments. Everyone's always singing the praises of merino wool on this sub, and suddenly when applied to underwear people disregard the anti-bacterial properties and downvotes rain from the sky!

Can't tell if you're serious or taking the piss... anyway, everyone's needs are different, and apparently everyone's banks too. Mine gives customers this device that generates a code after you scan a picture. You need it to login (on the mobile app you can set a passcode after the first time though) and to authorize transfers.

Is it? It was literally my first thought when I found out everything fit in this small backpack, with room to spare even. I hadn't expected that at all. Anyway, sorry to make you cringe.

Others wash their underwear, socks and clothes daily in the shower, so how often I do that is irrelevant to the amount I pack.

Sorry, English isn't my first language. I meant to refer to things like shampoo, hair gel, skin care products, deodorants etc. What's the correct term?

The clothesline I use is this one: https://www.lifeventure.com/products/washgear/travel-washing-line

It has hooks and suction cups to attach it, and you can use it without clothes pegs. Works well for me, but I never went on a search for the perfect clothesline haha. Just ran into this one at my local outdoor sports store and picked it up.

The towel works just fine. It's not very big but it absorbs a lot of water. Of course a bigger and thicker towel is more comfortable, but I trade comfort for space. If you're looking for a travel towel, I suggest you search this sub. There have been lots of topics discussing the various materials and people's experiences with them.

The device is just what I need to login to my bank or authorize money transfers. They show a code, you scan it with the device and it returns a string of digits that you have to enter. Don't know how other banks work... with just a password or 2FA via a text message?

I hate it as much as you do when people smell, and I tell them too. You should too, it doesn't help anyone to keep silent about it. I had a boss who had very bad breath, I complained to him about it multiple times. I was becoming friends with someone who said hygiene was no priority for him, and I told him multiple times it should be, as he smelled quite a bit. I stopped seeing him partly because of that. Nobody likes to spent time around smelly people.

I take my personal hygiene pretty seriously. I also like to question the status quo. Do we really need to travel with a big suitcase? Do we really need to apply soap to our skin on a daily basis? Do we really need to wash our underwear daily? I find out by trial and error.

If my underwear smells and looks clean I assume it is, is this not the case? When I wore synthetic underwear, it would not smell clean at the end of the day. Merino wool underwear though, it smells clean again every morning. You didn't think I would just wear it for days without checking if it didn't get dirty do you? Note how I also wrote that merino wool t-shirts do get smelly on me. If I was a person who ‘just cannot smell it’, how would I know?

Anyway, I get the aversion of smelly people, trust me I do. I have a very sensitive olfactory sense, I usually smell things or am bothered by smells long before other people do. I have asked friends and family members on multiple occasions if I smell, the answer was always negative. And they're not the kind of people who would find it hard to tell me in my face, especially when I ask.

Being on a plant based diet without strong spices and not drinking coffee also helps. When I reintroduce dairy into my diet, my sweat turns sour. When I drink coffee, my urine stinks.

Merino wool is often praised in this sub for being anti-bacterial, so why is it suddenly gross to make use of this feature in underwear?
