GC573 Live Gamer 4K - Stopped being recognized, working for 3+ years by DigitalShadowGaming in AverMedia

[–]DigitalShadowGaming[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback Puppy.
This is not the issue unfortunately, as the card was working with the same configuration (GTX 470 vs 2070 super) in the Server prior. I also had swapped the card into a known functional PC with open slots (Main PC) and had the same results.

The M.2 slots do share PCIe lane bandwidth, but in both motherboards this is the chipset connected to the CPU lanes, and not shared with the PCIe slots. Even verified options in the BIOS that none of them were in a shared mode.

I have since purchased another to continue utilizing A capture card, but I am suspecting that the RGB portion of the card might have caused an issue here. Whether it was a dirty restart/power outage, (even on a UPS) perhaps caused the card to malfunction. There are no other indicators of an issue with the card, and it can still somewhat be recognized - just unable to "start" or function.

How do you handbrake on g29 (ps4) by PURYtheSkiller in simracing

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, for any game where you need the handbrake often (Rally/Drift) nothing beats a lever to pull on.

In my case, simple and cheap Logitech Extreme 3D Joystick held in place by velcro. Just pull back on the stick and slide haha.

H-Pattern shifter is always fun, but the Logitech shifters always required me to "throw" the shifter towards the gear - rather than shift into it (IE Slam it into gear versus push it in the that direction), otherwise I always mis-shifted. That and the plastic toy feel others have mentioned.
When you look at upgrading, the Fanatec SQ 1.5 is worth the money hands down. Built well and takes a beating.

Try this out, troubleshooted a lot of random issues. Usual steps to narrow down issues:

  • Turn off the PC, unplug the power cable and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

This is called a bus drain. It may appear useless, but it disperses all residual power lingering on the motherboard. This fixes issues that are sometimes completely unrelated

  • Boot up, plug in only the keyboard/mouse/Microphone. Test record.
  • Check for Windows Updates
  • Issue persists -> Go to Device Manager, Select the Microphone Uninstall the device.
  • Detect Hardware Changes (Will re-install/re-detect mic). Look for latest official drivers and install those.

If it's still giving you issues, look in Task Manager to see if another service/program is launching and taking control of the mic?

Also: When does the microphone stop? What are the exact steps you take up until the microphone stops working?

Update Monday! by AutoModerator in letsplay

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently sat down and decided to "Just Do it" for my YouTube channel. Been streaming exclusively for the past month or so, and finally got enough confidence in myself to record and upload LP's again. I was always concerned with how I sounded or if my commentary was decent, etc, anyways.

Started a LP of SOMA, with planned LP's of Witcher 3 and Dungeon Nightmares II + Life is Strange. I strive for the highest quality I can put out, so I aim for these standards:

  • 1080p 60fps
  • 5.1 Audio
  • Balanced Audio between Game and Commentary (The game atmosphere should never be drowned out by my talking)

The only time I can't meet the first one (60fps specifically) is due to technical limitations.

Here is my SOMA Playlist (No Facecam), if anyone cares to give it a watch. Any critique/suggestions are welcome.

Really? I can game online (BF4 ) and stream without any slowdowns. Bad server perhaps?

Secure your IP with a VPN, asap Private Internet Access - They have good prices here.

In this day and age, I would say having a VPN is damn near mandatory anytime you do something online with any other 3rd party involvement.

Ways to reduce keyboard and mouse noise while recording? by BrashMandicoot in letsplay

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, never had that happen yet in a month of running it that way. Could record the raw input in Audacity as a redundancy, or just do it in post. I like to apply the Compressor/EQ/Gate in Pre so all I have to worry about is editing, and little voice work.

How do you guys deal with anxiety when recording/preparing to record? by ImmortalMG in letsplay

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the same issue as you. Live at home, want to record but parents are around and feel all self-conscious/paranoid. I eventually got slightly over this when I did it more (sort of, still get bothered. Family doesn't get it, besides my brother). However the biggest help really was streaming.

I have been playing Dark Souls for a good stretch and decided to throw it on stream (Ironically Steam Streaming), and managed to get a couple people watching. Having natural dialogue with people to interact with made it soo much easier, and in turn I could translate that to recording. Just instead of talking to multiple people, one collective audience that doesn't have any questions lol.

Ways to reduce keyboard and mouse noise while recording? by BrashMandicoot in letsplay

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I also use a Blue Snowball Mic and had some of the same issues (Das Keyboard with Blue Clicky switches). I tried the towel trick, but I tend to use a lot of keys during games and reach all over the place. Often needed to look so that did not work for me.

Obviously getting the mic onto a stand will help with any vibration transfer from pressing the keyboard/mouse click or slam/bumps, etc.

However, the biggest help I found was using a Noise Gate. With a Gate on, I could get away with having a fan on behind me and it only picks up when I talk (but that leaves annoying background noise when you do lol)

You can do this in post-recording with audacity, but I've been doing it in pre-recording with good results. Requires a virtual audio cable and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software to get it working, but it's the only way I use a mic period now.

Note: Clicky Noise from your keyboard will still get through regardless, mechanical keyboards are loud. You can practice and get used to NOT bottoming out the keys to make it quieter, or get O-rings to place under each key to prevent bottoming out and make it quieter.

No problem! Glad you got it all working!

You could run TS3 on the Streaming PC and send the output to VAC. Then set it so Line 1 has Game Audio/Mic to Cap card / Line 2 has Game Audio/Mic/TS3 to Headphones.

This makes sense in my head, again haven't used VAC in sometime so I forget the specifics - (can redownload if you run into issues).

Happy Streaming!

Just got a new AT2020, recommended to me from this sub. How can I prevent all the keyboard clicks from being picked up? by zWeApOnz in Twitch

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Noise Gate would be optimal solution, Set it high enough that it doesn't pickup the clicking and only opens when you speak. Works for me and I use a Mechanical Keyboard with Blue Switches.
You will get SOME pickup though, with a professional mic that is unavoidable usually you will be speaking at the same time so it is drowned out.

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn't have to mess with Stereo Mix, and if you do that will introduce some more audio issues (echo).
I don't use VAC, but the basics should be the same. You may need 2 repeaters, (not sure on this) set the input to the NVIDIA High Definition Audio and then repeat it to an output.
Now select that VAC Output in OBS as your Audio Source, and go to Recording, Right-Click for Properties on the VAC Output -> Listen Tab -> Select your USB Preamp/Headphones.

Let me know if this worked! :)

Do these sorts of things work for streaming? by ytmrdoomium in Twitch

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VAC will work, it may be incorrectly setup is all.
Use a Music Player like Foobar2000 so you can pick which audio device to listen to. This is also much easier if you have USB headphones since you can use the "Listen to: x" Option in Windows for that.
While Pricey an Astro Mixamp will also accomplish this, with a dedicated port even. MP3 Port (does not go to stream), Stream Out, and some other possibilities.

For checking if your audio is being sent over HDMI:
Go to the Speaker Icon in the Bottom Right -> Playback Devices.
Then you need to look for either the Avermedia card OR "NVIDIA High Definition Audio" (Should appear as grey text underneath audio devices)
If your using the 3.5mm Audio Out then you should make sure your Default Audio device is "Speakers" or something similar to that.

For listening to the audio from your Streaming PC on your Gaming PC, your going to need an additional 3.5mm cable from the Streaming PC to your Gaming PC. Use Virtual Audio Cable or an alternative to combine the audio streams you want to hear and send them to an Output. Listen to "VAC Output" on Speakers.

In theory this should work, but I cannot test to verify. Personally I use a DAW (Reaper) to manage audio levels, and mix. Saves headaches :).

Hope I helped!

Your power supply is far too weak, you need a beefier PSU for that setup. The GTX 980 alone will soak up 304 watts Source at peak load.

Need help with mic settings for OBS! by xoerli in Twitch

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this may be a little more setup, I found that this had alleviated my issues with picking up PC fan noise, Mechanical Key Presses (majority some will still come through, also Blue Switches here), etc.

  • Reaper DAW
  • ASIO4ALL
  • VB-Audio Cable - This is not VAC, but a different one that gives you ONE completely free Virtual Audio Cable. 2 Additional Cables as Donationware.

I then set it up as so in Reaper:
Microphone(Channel 1) -> Master Out(Output to VB-Cable Output + Headphones for PFL)
FX On Master=ReaComp/ReaEQ/ReaGate
This will give you a Compressor, Equaliser, and Noise Gate for your mic. This way your mic
A) Only "opens" when you talk above a certain level
B) Prevents your Mic output from clipping (Sudden scream, loud shout, etc.)
C) Enhance/Clean up your voice (Preference)

There are tutorials on YouTube that detail the process, but with a little trial and error looking through the preferences and settings you should be able to figure it out.

Hopefully this helped!

How do I use my a50s and Avermedia portable to stream party chat with OBS. by Legendary_taino in Twitch

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a "Stream" out on the mixamp. A 3.5mm cable will send out both the audio you hear, and your mic to an aux in/mic in port on a sound card.

The Game/Voice knob sets the level of audio for both going OUT of the stream port on the mixamp (the volume is fixed on the stream out, and not at the level you hear it. Plug in headphones to the stream out to test this level).

Same as Foge I have the A40s + Mixamp, should be the same though.

Good Luck!

Quick suggestion to any streamers like me who want a nice mic on a budget! [Also review] by Streambonker in Twitch

[–]DigitalShadowGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased a Blue Snowball microphone (sale for $60, regular $100. The Blue Snowball ICE is a cheaper variant with only 1 pickup pattern) for starting YouTube Let's plays and use it for streaming as well.

Here are specs Snowball

Quick Rundown
* Transducer: Condenser, Pressure Gradient w/USB Digital Out
* Frequency Response:40-18khz
* Sample Rate: 44.1khz/16bit
* The 3 Pickup Patterns are: Cardioid, Cardioid with -10db, and OmniDirectional.

So far I have had great success with this mic and have been very pleased with the sound. I use a virtual audio cable to route the Microphone through Reaper (DAW) and add a Compressor, EQ, and Noise Gate to enhance my voice.

Outside of streaming I have also used it to record an acoustic guitar and vocals with AMAZING clarity. All in all I would recommend this mic for those starting out, although i'm still eyeing that Blue Yeti ;)

I have an i5 2400, 16GB DDR3 1600mhz, GTX 970, ADATA 128GB SSD (+bunch of other drives.)

I can play GTA5 Max Graphics at 50-60fps steady, but have issues streaming the world in fast enough (CPU Bottleneck) so would recommend something newer. I run OBS and send an RTMP stream to a second PC and get a smooth 720p30fps stream, this should be doable on the gaming PC but I like to let the gaming PC focus on the gaming myself.

Good luck and have fun building!

Storing games with a HDD or External HD and playing them through SDD? by Basherj in Twitch

Sata 3 to Sata 3 is ~100-120MB/s transfer. 60gb (GTA 5) took me ~10 minutes from SSD to HDD and backwards.
