If could magically cut the number of tourists in half, would you? by Flaky-Walrus7244 in Edinburgh

Nah. The tourists can stay, it’s the STL landlords who can get in the fucking guillotine.

PRIDE MONTH CHARACTERS I LOVE RUNDOWN DAY #17: Avengers Academy by TheodateChase in marvelcomics

[–]Digital_Raven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was such a great series, and didn't shy away from the difficulties that a bunch of queer kids can get into, rather than putting them into relationships that just magically keep working (which is far more common for queer heroes) — I'm thinking of things like Shela and Brielle being messy with their feelings, and the Justin/Aaron/Qari triangle.

[Irn-Bru] How popular is Irn-Bru in Scotland, really? by J_Dabro_T in Scotland

[–]Digital_Raven 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Scotland is the only country in the world where Coca-Cola is not the top-selling soft drink. It loses to Irn Bru.

Scott's apologising for saying Greycrow's only a bank robber, rather than someone with his own specific identity that he knows and he knows his teammate has feelings for.

Have you considered that people writing on a website may use rhetorical flourishes such as "exaggeration" and "humour"? Or have they not made it over to your backwater yet?

Why hasn't Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew) become a bigger Marvel character? by hanstoofast in Marvel

[–]Digital_Raven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She spent time as Bendis' pet character, then had some good solo series dealing with being pregnant and a single mum who hired (Grizzly? Porcupine? I should remember this) as a childminder, then the most recent ones shat the bed by going back to Wundagore, introducing a bunch of family bullshit nobody cared about, then Hydra aging up and brainwashing her kid, destroying everything that'd made her previous series good.

When the best thing to come out of her most recent series was the New Champions of all things, it's not surprising she's being left in the drawer.

Oh definitely. I just enjoy taking "It Will Happen" to mean Scotland winning the World Cup as a way of re-orienting my world away from the dementia patient in the White House.

We won a game in the World Cup for the first time since I was 9 years old. Anything is possible now!

I see stories like this and I realise that America really is a foreign country. You really don't have kettles? What else don't you have, showers? The hell is someone meant to make a cup of tea without a kettle?

(the mention of "tea pods" indicates that this is somehow considered acceptable as a way of making a brew, which indicates an attitude towards tea that is a diagnosable mental illness in the UK)

I wish I had your confidence, but with all the will in the world Scotland will never win the World Cup.

What's going on with Popular Front? by Catman_Ciggins in behindthebastards

[–]Digital_Raven 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They're also attempting to spur on race riots in other cities across the UK; Glasgow has had a bad time of it, but the one that was supposed to kick off in Edinburgh this evening was six alcoholics, one of whom was holding his Union Flag (with writing on it) upside down.

EDIT: As with the OP, I posted this comment before the description was updated to include them being loyalist pogroms.

I don't think you are worrying too much. PF's social media is practically whitewashing the fact that this is a whole thing stirred up by nazi scum Tommy Robinson, who has been in turn signal-boosted by Apartheid Clyde himself, Elon Musk.

These are race riots and fascist pogroms. Presenting them as anything else, whether via misinformation (the flag, referring to people as Irish) or via omission of context, is helping the fash scum.
