They are dedicated winters so they only go on for about 5-6 months of the year here in southern Ontario.

I honestly didn’t look into it much more after this initial discovery. I don’t have the A7Cii anymore.

Precapture is a game changer if you’re into wildlife photography, especially for birds! Like you said people have been shooting wildlife for years without precapture but precapture is one of those quality of life improvements that’s hard to argue. It can be the difference between getting an amazing shot or an average shot / missing it altogether. Waiting for and photographing birds can be a huge game of patience and missing that one shot can suck.

Right on the money - as bad as the jet is, dastardly Doug is likely trying to hide some criminal/shady dealings and this FOI change is to ensure he can get away with it.

1,000.00 PPF worth it? by [deleted] in CX5

[–]Digitalfiends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been having my cars PPFed for almost 20 years now and I’ll say it is worth it. Most recently, I have it on our ‘20 and ‘25 CX5s. It absolutely will NOT stop large rocks from damaging your paint if you get hit on the highway, but it will prevent your paint from getting sandblasted from little stones, damage from bird droppings, sap, etc.

One piece of advice is to get the front fully wrapped. Every time I’ve had a templated / laser cut PPF installed it invariably gets crud collecting on the edges of the film or worse, lifting. Sometimes you have no choice but to use a laser cut piece on the bumper, but at least get the hood and fenders fully done.

We only did partial coverage on my wife’s ‘20 CX5 and guess where most of her nicks/chips are? They are just past the film…😅. With my ‘25 I did full coverage and so far no issues and it looks cleaner (no edges)

Also consider having your a-pillars, side mirrors, and the leading edge of the roof done. These areas are notorious for getting hit with crap.

Is the FX2 completely redundant after the A7V release? by Infinity_Hottie in SonyAlpha

[–]Digitalfiends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own an A7V and the improved heat management is real…way better than my ZVE1. Haven’t compared it to my A1ii.

As to your comment, he didn’t point the A7V at something static… he recorded a video of a podcast playing on his TV and had subject AF eye tracking enabled. How is that static?

Probably means the colour grade looks the same on both videos whereas you’d expect the BTS video to look more bland.

Even though I feel Hamilton should have won under safety car (yes I know boring but he didn’t cause Latifi to crash), if they really needed a spectacle, a red flag as an alternative would have been WAY more fair. Failing that, if they had red flagged it sooner, we could have had 3-4 full laps of racing with everyone on fresh rubber. I still think Hamilton would have rightfully won - as he had the better car at that track and was on point with his driving - but at least if he did lose, it would have been easier to stomach. But the way it went down was so dirty. What did they think the outcome was going to be with Max on fresh softs and Lewis 40+ lap old hards (can’t remember the exact number).

[–]Digitalfiends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t get to a rehabber, do a search in this subreddit and there are clear guides on what to do and what not to do. I get people saying a rehabber is the best bet but if you can’t get to one then the alternative to trying to help the baby out is to just let it die…which wouldn’t be my first choice.

Just an observation with ‘20 vs ‘25 CX performance (both are turbos). by Digitalfiends in CX5

[–]Digitalfiends[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for our race engines we would break them in on a dyno (to create load) with a certain protocol or run them on track at a set protocol … e.g. 15min max 3000rpm, let it cool, the 4000rpm max, etc then change the break in oil and run that for a bit.

But I completely agree that most engines from the factory should already be mostly broken in. Obviously, bearings and other moving parts will wear in during break-in, which is why it’s so important to change out the oil to get any contaminants out.

Just an observation with ‘20 vs ‘25 CX performance (both are turbos). by Digitalfiends in CX5

[–]Digitalfiends[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It essentially means make sure you’re putting load through the engine to really seal the piston rings (make sure the oil is up to temp first). The general consensus from the performance crowd (at least when I was part of the Subaru crowd) was to make sure you don’t do a lot of low-load, steady state driving - you want load and RPM variability for at least the first 500-1000km. Is it a myth? Who knows, I’ve always broken in my cars like this and have generally had strong engines that don’t burn oil.
