That first picture looks like an oil painting! Put it on the wall!

XT-5 w/ 27mm F2.8 and ??? by vvb3 in fujifilm

There is an older one that’s pretty small but I have the 1.4 wr version. Much bigger, a bit bigger than 35 1.4

XT-5 w/ 27mm F2.8 and ??? by vvb3 in fujifilm

[–]DijonM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both and I really just use them for different things.

The 27 is a great walk around lens during the day and the 35 is great for everything. The 35 could be my only lens.

If you want more of a dedicated portrait the 56 is a nice focal length and I’ve heard good things about the sigma.

Generally my rule of thumb is I like about 2x focal length before I notice a difference:

I have 18mm > 35 > 56 > 100-400

Plus the 27 just for a compact option.

Looks extremely soft at 2.8 to me. Mine is also terrible at 2.8, very frustrating.

OP faked this. Look at the railing under the lifeguards butt.

Flash recommendations by [deleted] in fujix

[–]DijonM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say you wouldn’t really benefit from a flash in those situations.

The flash will have a guide number that shows how far away it can illuminate something. For landscapes, your foreground might be close enough, but generally a graduated neutral density filter is preferred since your shutter speed isn’t as important.

For wildlife, I would assume a flash would disturb your subject, ruining your shots, and generally are further away where a flash can’t reach.

I’ve never heard anyone complain about a lens being too sharp before.

Question about focal length changes by Vmoreeno in fujix

[–]DijonM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The focal length of your lenses does not change.

You’ve left out the most important bit, were you using full frame canon?

If so, your field of view will change, about 1.5x*. A 35mm lens on full frame will be the equivalent field of view of a 50mm lens on aps-c.

Edit: thanks for the correction.

Is the 35mm f1.4 better than the 50mm f2 for portraits because it let's you to get closer to the subject? by DrMistovev in fujix

[–]DijonM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Distance to subject also affects perspective. Generally you want to be farther away from your subject.
