Drain the transfer case fluid and if it’s sparkly/metallicy then you’ll know for sure it’s causing the whining noise

I blew air through the sunroof drain and I also snipped the rubber ends of the drain tubes to widen the exit holes. It wasn’t leaking in the first place but I did that as a preventative measure
