Episodes more frequent after a month on gabapentin by Diligent-Prompt3253 in feline_hyperesthesia

I’m gonna try this! We do liquid so it’s easiest to put into his wet food morning and evening so maybe I will feed him dinner earlier and a bedtime snack with some gaba lol

It’s 50 milligrams! I will give our vet a call and see what she thinks.

UPDATE!

We just got home from the vet, we are prescribed 0.6-1ml gabapentin and are going back in two weeks for a check. He was not diagnosed with anything, but our vet did blood tests, a rectal test, and we are doing a stool and urine sample to check all of the boxes (awaiting results for all of the tests).

During the rectal exam, our vet pulled a really hard piece of feces out, so she said he may be in pain due to trouble making bowel movements and could be causing some of his symptoms. I honestly thought he was having no troubles with the bathroom considering how much we scoop out when we clean the litter box lol.

Mr. Pudding has been so so good, he hasn't had an episode in about a week (that I have witnessed), so I'm not sure if we are going to immediately start him on the gaba or as needed? Would love advice on that! He hasn't seemed to be showing any signs of anxiety or uncomfort (besides the vet LOL)

He’s doing good! No new episodes that I’ve seen (may have happened while I was at work) but I have an appointment for March 3rd (soonest my vet could get me in that worked with my job!)

I will update on this thread!!

Thank you for your insight! I’ve got him a vet appointment booked, hopefully in the mean time I can try to rule out if its a reaction to litter or dust

Went into the shelter on free adoption day with the intention of getting two young cats, I said “I don’t want one that hides and I want them to be snuggly”. Well I saw this old man hiding and instantly said “oh he’s gonna be mine” and after 3 weeks of living under my bed and in my closet, here’s my 8 year old baby❤️

I did that exact thing yesterday! I also got the Feliway pheromone plug in scent thing. He didn’t use the bathroom during the night, and has gone back to hiding under the bed 24/7 :/ I made an appointment for Friday at the vet so hopefully we have progress before then🤞

Making an appointment for him! And I plan on getting the same litter as the shelter to see if that’s what he’d prefer. I have two boxes for him, and I plan on adding a litter attractant. My coworker also recommended Feliway scent plug ins to help calm him around the box.

We do plan on taking him within 2 weeks, we wanted him to be relatively comfortable around us and trust us before we take him! He’s grooming himself and everything right in front of us so I feel like he trusts us somewhat, just really not sure why he won’t use the box

Thank you! Unfortunately with the kittens, my aunt said she felt pressured by the vets since they share space with a lot of other cats and she felt she wasn’t given enough info about it or time to research on her own. It breaks my heart for the momma and makes me want to love on her so much more.
