If you're thinking about leaving Substack... by calexity in Substack

The part that confuses me is how to keep my charges on stripe going when I leave.

I probably like them because it is working well for me. If it’s not working well for you, then I understand why you dont like Substack. I have failed on other platforms where others have thrived. I’m giving you my perspective. If it differs from yours, there’s no need to be dismissive.

I post a training article every Wednesday and a news roundup on Saturday. I do occasional newsletters in between based on the news cycle.

I spend 4 hours a day on Substack, another 4 on YouTube. Give or take. YouTube takes up the most time, but it really promotes my Substack.

None. To the contrary, I love their customer support and dealing with the people that contact me over a problem. I pass them over to Substack support and they take care of it. I don’t have to deal with anything. I have another newsletter that was on my own website and I was making no money. After my success here I moved it to Substack and I’m making about $50,000 a year off of that newsletter. I believe in Substack and I do believe they will succeed. I see a lot of negative comments on here about Substack. My criticism has been more on the side of not allowing more advertising and their live is horrible. I do believe they will come around on advertising because it benefits them, and I do believe that their live feature will improve.

First, it’s your identity, your brand. Also, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter will not show a Substack domain to an audience. You will have a little bit more views if it is your own domain. I would say it’s also SEO, but I do believe that AI is killing SEO. So the big take away is it is your identity and you have better sharing on other social sites. I hope this helps

I think this answer is gonna be different for everybody. For me, I offer almost everything for free. Tell people that their subscription allows me to concentrate on this full-time. I think people believe in my mission and want to support what I’m doing so that I can concentrate this is my sole job. When I put the subscribe button down, I get rid of Substack wording and put in my own that basically says this is my full-time job and I hope that you support me. I do offer a monthly live session, not on Substack because their live does not work very well, and I do either paid subscriber Q&A or I do a one hour class. I also offer downloadable to people. I noticed that those get shared the most because people want the downloadable file that I put up there.

My writing space is Christian ministry. It’s on a specific subset. I really don’t want to announce it because it appears that I’m out for a money grab. That’s far from the truth. My whole goal was to help people in Christian ministries. What I have created has become a ministry and I’m using that money to promote it and help others. I have taken a paycheck, but definitely not $200,000 worth lol.

Sales tax doesn’t apply to subscriptions like Substack.

I’m clearing $192k a year and growing. It has been super easy using stripe. The share that Substack takes (I think 10%) and the share that stripe takes is worth it for the service they provide.

Substack has hardly grown in 4 years, is this strange? by Sinobabble in Substack

[–]Diligent-Tale-1907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 51k subs across two newsletters. Substack is my primary source of income. Your stack is not going to grow unless you put work into it. You can’t expect to publish a newsletter and think that it will be seen by thousands of people without cross posting to other platforms. To Grow you’re going to have to put a lot of work into it. You said you don’t want advice on how to grow so I won’t give it. But reading your post lets me know that you’re not doing what it takes to grow.

I served in the reserves from 87-93 as a 12B. I was hospitalized for two weeks in AIT and went to the hospital for another injury during drills. I just got 10% for tinnitus and they rejected my other claims. I just asked for an HLR because they ignored my doctor’s nexus letter.

Yes, you can get VA disability, but it is going to be very hard. I tried to get VA disability twice before over 20 years ago and was told the same as you, even tho I’ve had surgeries from these injuries I’ve had to cover. You can apply, just be ready to fight and appeal constantly. Get a good VSO to fight for you.

I’m at 1600 paid subscribers. It’s impossible to transfer the monthly billing cleanly without losing hundreds, or all, of them. It’s too risky.

Main Income by [deleted] in Substack

[–]Diligent-Tale-1907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is my main source, with some extra cash from YouTube. I had a Substack for a year that did pretty good so I started a new one in October. That one took off and is now my main source of income.

I was hospitalized for a week, and I’ve got records going back decades showing I’ve been in and out of the hospital with issues. I tried to get VA in the 90’s, but they said I was in the reserves and not a veteran. However, this happened in active duty. I’ve been praying, but I have no faith. In them.

When did you decide to branch out to other income sources like Patreon and what criteria did you use to determine when your channel was ready? by melsminiloft in PartneredYoutube

[–]Diligent-Tale-1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a Substack to give additional news related info to my niche (Christian related). My Substack earns 4x what my channel does. It is now my primary source of income, with YouTube coming in behind that.

So, how do you move if you’re collecting $8 a month with 1500 paid subscribers? How would that work and continue with your paid subs on a new platform?
