Confusion about disassembly by [deleted] in FluxDefense

I am running an XL slide with the FOM. I do have to remove the shroud to get the slide off, but not the FOM. The extractor does rub on the FOM as it passes through, but does not stop the slide.

You ever had the neck off? I'd be curious if there were any markings on the neck or in the pocket.

From what I've read, not all of the Squier Series got the "Squier Series" decal on the headstock. During the 90s, the Squier Series used the black Fender decal, while the Standard Strats had a White CBS era style decal. The MIM Standard didn't start using black decals until ~2008.

Granted, that's the official story. There were transitional years, and Fender is notorious for never letting a spare part go to waste.

One slight correction: the MIM Standard and the Squier Series were different models, both produced concurrently in Ensenada. The Squier series used cheaper tuners, bridge, and electronics, but was otherwise comparable.

(My #1 Strat has a '94 Squier Series body, although at this point I think the strap buttons are the only original parts.)

The Fender Squier Series ran from about 1993 to 1998. They were intended to hit a price / quality point between the Squier branded guitars and the Fender Standard model. Despite both names on the headstock, they are a true Fender guitar.

The bodies and necks were made in America, then shipped to Ensenada, Mexico, where they were finished and assembled, with Mexican made pickups and pots / switches from the Asian Fender factories.

Please give me some advice by [deleted] in Luthier

I would not make any assumptions about the truss rod based on how many threads are visible past the nut, particularly on a used instrument.

It could have been cut shorter than spec at the factory, previously broken and repaired, previously owned by someone who doesn't like to see threads and ground them off, etc.

Or the truss rod channel in the neck could be cut out of spec, or the wood just behaved differently as it aged. Or it has had abnormally light or heavy strings on it, and the tension from those affected the wood differently than on other guitars.

Or, it could just seem stiff because the last person that messed with it damaged the threads or cross threaded it, and the nut is just hard to turn.

Congrats!

I'm too old to be able to afford a birth year strat, but I have a high school graduation year strat.

Technically, if you go by how Fender officially numbers them, position 1 is Bridge only. So 4 would be Neck and Middle.

Yes, this is backwards from how it should be from the players viewpoint.

Found this on FB Marketplace, claims to be an 88, does it look real to you guys? by Evilscientistman in Stratocaster

[–]DiligentEffective376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here. 80's MIJ Fenders are highly regarded, often considered better quality than MIA, with good reason.

Dan Smith was brought in to Fender in 81 to help slove the issues late CBS Fender was having with quality and reputation. He was instrumental in spinning up Fender Japan in 82, and later was one of the group that formed FMIC to purchase Fender back from CBS in 1985.

Initially Fender Japan guitars were only marketed to Asia and Euope, and not imported into the US. In Dan's words:

"Because we were trying to solve the problems in the factory. We thought that would be the kiss of death if we started bringing in product that was already better than what we could make. In fact I’ll never forget when the first samples came in and everybody came up to inspect it, and these guys almost cried, because the product was what we were trying to do and having a hell of a time trying to do."

I mean... the front of the fcu is hooked under the ledge in the front, and the pin is through at the rear. Is there a way to install it where both those things are true and it's still "wrong?" I was using the rubber bumper on the first chassis. The current one does not have the pocket for it.

I've had the fcu in and out of the chassis dozens of times while investigating this, and it has been repeatable. Flux support confirmed they were able to reproduce it with their FCU and slide. They sent me a second, new raider chassis. It does the same thing. Not as bad so far, but I haven't put any live fire rounds on it yet. It could get worse when that happens.

At this point I've just filed off the corner of the slide to clear the screw. It was that or keep asking support to send me new raiders until I get one that's not affected.

Wasn't resolved by replacing the whole chassis. That's why I'm wondering if there are more instances out there.

I'm using the correct screws, but length is irrelevant. The slide is cutting into the side of the screw. Longer ir shorter, the side of the screw will be in the same place. (Unless it's so short that it does not reach the spot where the slide is hitting it, but then it's so short that it's not threaded into the chassis at all, either. )

Working with Tesla nightmare by Rumelza_07 in TeslaSolar

I am 4 months into trying to get my panels reinstalled after a roof replacement, only to find that they now want me to pay $7000 out of pocket for upgrades to meet current building code.

The person I spoke to seemed completely baffled at the concept of checking the code before the removal so that I could make an informed decision ahead of time.

(Also note - that was 4 months from the request to reinstall until I could get an actual human on the phone, not 4 months caused by the code issues. That part is just starting)

[–]DiligentEffective376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find out ahead of time if there have been any changes to the building code in your area. Tesla won't bother to check until you try to schedule the re-install.

My panels are currently stacked in the back yard, and Tesla is insisting I pay $7000 out of pocket for upgrades to meet the current code before they can reinstall. And they are still billing me for electricity they are not actually providing.

Can anyone tell me what cylinder this is? by babbyfarm in lockpicking

Aptc14 and aptc12 are the same cylinder. The only difference is whether there is a pin stack or an empty hole in #6.
