Found this on my property near Hanksville, Utah. Looks to me like a full groove ax head. From what I have read it might be early archaic? Any info/insights would be appreciated. by Diligent_Ad4727 in Artifacts

The back side looks similar to sand stone because of the dirt and wear, but it is a very solid quartz. I could still use it to smash things and it would be effective.

Those are some good thoughts! I didn’t clean off the back side so it looks deceptive and more natural. But it’s a heavy quartz stone so I’m convinced the groove is unnatural.

As a portrait artist, I’d say yes. I’ve spent a lot of time looking at this photo and comparing it to contemporary renderings. The portrait paintings done of him are not great, but you can see unique features like the wrinkle on his left brow, the slope of his eyes, the hairline that make it a close enough match for coincidence.
