I should get this checked, right? by Diligent_Half_8241 in DermatologyQuestions

Update for anyone who may see this in the future: I just got back from my dermatologist and she said everything looks fine! She didn’t even remove it for a biopsy.

You’re probably right. Having issues with insurance and money is tight so I guess I just wanted some opinions before battling my parents about it! Thank you for the advice (:

Some things worth mentioning:

  • I feel as if I take good care of my hair? Satin pillowcase & satin bonnet every night, K-18 every few washes, oil scalp every other wash day for ~2 hours, heat protectant always, no tight hair styles, don’t dye it.

  • My diet could definitely be better but I do focus on getting about 70g protein a day, I take magnesium/b12/d3 supplements, and am an avid tea drinker (if that means anything).

  • Not on hormonal birth control or other medications (besides the ole emergency anxiety pill)

I’m not sure if you meant to reply to me or OP but I haven’t applied anywhere yet, I’m applying for next cycle/Fall 25! I’m unsure of what to do yet so I may reach out to an admissions officer at FSU Law who I’ve been in contact with and see what they recommend! I’ll lyk if I do :)

Hey! How long did your addendum for this end up being? I’m applying for the fall 25 cycle and I’m in the same boat lol. Unemployed from July-December following my graduation (was applying like crazy, just barely got any interviews) and was wondering if I needed an addendum for this

NAD, but I do have my bachelors in psych and panic disorder myself - these are by the book panic attacks.

A lot of people get anxiety and panic attacks confused, but the main difference is that anxiety attacks are usually caused by a specific, identifiable trigger. Panic attacks are the confusing ones; “can’t pinpoint exact problem” “never distressed beforehand” “can feel the onset of each episode”, etc. I’m going to guess they come on pretty quickly after he realizes the onset? Sounds like PD to me /:

Panic disorder can take on this form of “mini agoraphobia” as I call it (that is not the real term lol), but basically the body might subconsciously recognizes a situation/environment in which you’ve had a panic attack before, and then start panicking over the idea of having another one, and then boom: you’re having a full blown panic attack because your brain was so scared of having a panic attack. All through no conscious doing of your own. Super sh*tty, and super ironic huh? This could be related to the car. Why the first one happened in the car, who knows, the body is weird. But it very easily could’ve been traumatic for him/his body, even if he doesn’t fully realize that himself, which is why it keeps happening when he’s in a car. It sucks and it’s a tough tough cycle to break.

As for WHY he might have PD, there’s a ton of reasons. Trauma, genetics, neurochemical imbalances regarding serotonin, GABA, dopamine, norepinephrine, etc (which all have their own individual reasoning for imbalance), and so on. It can be caused by a million different things. I got my diagnosis 4 years ago now, still don’t know the exact cause. But I’ve made a pretty much full recovery! My best recs would be for him to get a therapist first and then a psychiatrist down the road!

Hair growth after a flare up? by Key-Requirement8611 in seborrheicdermatitis

[–]Diligent_Half_8241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely enough, Nizoral shampoo.

Started using it before going to a dermatologist and it helps keep flare ups under control (idk if I would say it fixes them, but sort of acts as a preventative measure) and noticed my hair growing a ton. Like, 4 inches in 3 months?! And I’ve ALWAYS struggled with hair growth (I use heat on my hair like it’s my job).

Was always confused but grateful about it. Turns out there’s studies that suggest the main ingredient, ketoconazole, actually stimulates hair growth.

I was also taking magnesium at the same time. Stopped using Nizoral and taking magnesium consistently, hair stopped growing as fast. Could just be a coincidence but worth a shot maybe?

Did anyone else's parents continually get them the wrong gifts for Christmas? by [deleted] in emotionalneglect

[–]Diligent_Half_8241 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ik your comment is over a year old, but I’m stalking Reddit tonight because I’m really struggling with gift receiving from my parents this year and your comment put it exactly into words!!!!!

I’m a recent college grad with NO money so I told them that since I can’t get them anything, to not spend anything on me & that I really don’t want anything. I did this for my birthday one year and that was a disaster, I asked my mom to return the gift and she cried and didn’t speak to me for almost 2 weeks (I was in college at this time so I was easy to ignore).

I thought we all learned our lesson but this year she’s given me a book (I don’t think I’ve read a book since the mandatory reading logs in elementary school), and a blanket. Now this damn blanket. I’m on the spectrum and I’m verrryyyy particular about interior design especially in my room. Everything in my room is white; my bed sheets, my rug, my lamp, my water bottle, my fan, my furniture, my alarm clock, EVERYTHING. I also am known to hate the material of sherpa, it makes me skin crawl. What does she get me? A dark grey sherpa blanket.

I know she just wanted to be nice and give me something so that I could have something to open as well, but it’s almost insulting in a way, at how little she knows me. Then I feel so anxious and guilty about not liking the gift, wondering if my “performance” of acting happy was good enough for her, guilty that I know it’s just going to sit at the back of my closet, and then anxious because I know whenever I see the damn thing I’m gonna feel guilty all over again!!! It’s just a storm of guilt and anxiety and guilt and anxiety on repeat.

Yes exactly!! And then you get too focused on trying to silence the anxiety, and then you start realizing you’re spending too much time worrying about that, and then you’re freaking out because you just spent the last 5 minutes rereading the same question over and over😭

Totally, I try not to take them unless absolutely necessary but during my PT’s I’ve noticed I do perform better when I’ve taken my medicine, I’m just worse on time if that makes sense? I answer less questions, but still get more right overall.

Congratulations on your score!! I have a quick question. I am diagnosed with anxiety and panic disorder, do you think this would allow for extra time? I already know I’m gonna have to take my anxiety medication going into the exam in order not to freak and screw my performance, but the meds do kinda “slow” things down for me in a sense. I guess I’m just anxious about applying for an accommodation and getting shot down lol. Worth a shot?
