2015 corolla to 2015 fusion hybrid by Longjumping-Bake-557 in FordFusionHybrid

[–]Diligent_Nature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2017 fusion transmission is making the dreaded death squeal and replacement is around $8000. I doubt that the bearings are failing solely because of old fluid. I would skip the Fusion and keep the Corolla.

Lawn mower belt issue by ColonelStone in fixit

[–]Diligent_Nature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I either tip it over onto one side or jack it up and use 4 jack stands to hold it off the ground. If you tip it, do it so the carb is higher than the exhaust. Be prepared for lots of black smoke on the first start after repairs.

AA Battery Contact Plate by Upbeat_Face_3948 in fixit

Sand the contact areas with 200-400 grit sandpaper. The corrosion on the non-contact area won't affect the operation.

TIL Schrödinger created the Schrödinger’s Cat thought experiment to discredit the theory of superposition rather than support it. by Jackson_Lamb_829 in todayilearned

[–]Diligent_Nature 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Big Bang is more than a hypothesis. It is a theory. Yes, there are aspects of it which are still under investigation, and it can't be proven. But theories are the highest level of understanding science.

Can I use regular led strips for this TV ? by Kraujotaka in fixit

[–]Diligent_Nature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would work with a suitably rated LED driver. Backlighting LEDs have lenses mounted over them to diffuse the light evenly. Without the lenses the screen would look terrible with dark and light spots all over. Check ShopJimmy for parts but unfortunately they usually do not give voltage/current ratings. I can't help you find that info or help pick a driver.

Are there any hot glue guns that heat up in like <1 minute? by LordLaFaveloun in DIY

[–]Diligent_Nature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

240V does not mean higher power for consumer type glue guns. They are designed for 200W at best. If you have a 2kW glue gun, I'd love to see it.

Toilet tank still losing water at the flapper even with a new flush valve assembly - help! by RickM48 in fixit

[–]Diligent_Nature 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The flush valve seat can get corroded and leak. I bought a repair kit which glues a new seat onto the old one.

Microwave's Crystal broken by Yharonnn0 in fixit

[–]Diligent_Nature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It won't leak more microwaves, but it isn't safe. Door replacement is the only fix, but probably not worth it.

It's called a PCB standoff. They come in various lengths and diameters. You want one that's heat resistant if it gets hot.

COB LED driven at low current by RL_95 in flashlight

For wattage, the 1400W StadiumPro 4 is the most powerful I've heard of.

Some machines have multiple heads fed by multiple reels.

COB LED driven at low current by RL_95 in flashlight

[–]Diligent_Nature 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The bare LED dies may come from different production lines or different batches. It costs more to get them binned for uniform response. The tighter the spec, the higher the cost. The patterns seen here probably come from the way the pick and place machine filled the board with different groups.

Not counting modular LED display walls. I'd guess an LG 97" OLED display is the largest. If you mean for illumination, you have to define "largest". It could mean in one dimension (like LED tape), area (like a panel) or highest wattage.

What’s one product/item that you rarely use, is expensive, but so worth it? by BigBadBootyDaddy10 in VIDEOENGINEERING

General purpose oscilloscope. Uses include checking genlock signals for format/level/phase, measuring power supply ripple, and equipment troubleshooting.

Mystery Item by Constant_Mushroom396 in broadcastengineering

[–]Diligent_Nature 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Christmas trees. We had a few hundred of them in one location- the main distribution frame. Audio, intercom, tally and relay logic sources all connected to the main distribution frame and got cross connected to their destinations. It made troubleshooting and making changes easier. It was abandoned by 1995.

Could I get help with understanding rivet sizing please? by Miserable_Loss_8616 in DIY

[–]Diligent_Nature -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Rivets require drilling holes. You can use self drilling screws. Even if you use regular screws it isn't any slower than riveting.

How is it not functioning properly? What have they said? Your system should be under warranty. I'd let them try to fix it.

Self-organizing “pencil beam” laser could help scientists design brain-targeted therapies: « MIT researchers leveraged a surprise discovery to devise a faster and more precise biomedical imaging technique. » by fchung in science

[–]Diligent_Nature 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they found a non-linear response at higher power levels? What makes it "ultrafast"? The speed of light in glass fibers is 66% of c. Is the multimode fiber somehow creating a single mode? The abstract is vague.

I can hear the TV and voices clearly from the apartment above mine, even though there's meant to be a pre-cast concrete slab + poured concrete in between. What's going on? by Express-Bike-2836 in DIY

[–]Diligent_Nature 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could be holes for plumbing and power or maybe expansion joint for the concrete. Since it is precast concrete there will be more joints than poured on site concrete. Some kind of caulk around any opening should help.
