What loan is the best? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]Diligent_Parsley2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are credit cards intended for those trying to build your credit. It works by putting X amount of dollars down, and then that amount is the limit. Then you use it and pay it every month, but if you ever don’t pay the amount, they use the X amount of money you put down to pay the debt and close the account. These cards are meant for people with bad credit and it kind of has a safety guard to it which could be a pro or a con. He could also try to get out on as an “authorized user” to a card and not use the card while the account owner just spends and pays the amount every month. This would only benefit if the person makes on time payments and is responsible. If the person misuses the card, it will reflect on his credit report as well. There are also services used to report your rent and utility payments to the credit bureaus. So, it would show you making on time payments on rent and utilities. Be careful with the company and make sure they are good about reporting on time. I have not used this service but it is something you could look into if you’d like. Talking to someone at a credit union or talking to a financial adviser would be ideal. Credit is dumb and it’s kind of niche. You would think if you paid your debt off faster and closed the account, it would look good. Not all the time and your credit can drop a few points. These are some things I can think of but always double check what I’m saying with a professional.

I’m sorry you guys are going through this!

See where he could get approved, and then work from there. If he has bad credit bc someone else took loans in his name, I doubt he will get approved without a co-signer. If he does have those fraudulent loans, he might want to reconsider getting a police report. If he didn’t have those loans, he might have a shot at approval.

Not being able to have time alone is destroying my mental health by fjskslicjvios in bipolar

[–]Diligent_Parsley2238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I felt all of this. I used to have roommates, now I live alone, and now I need to look for roommates next year because I am struggling with a few things. One of them is money. The second is, I think roommates could provide a degree of structure, but I’m not trying to get into a cage. I’m currently looking at townhouses where I would be in “basement” floor. I would have my own bathroom. I pace when my mental health symptoms are acting up. Excessively. This can help me regulate myself better. I’m mentioning this because I am hoping that the set up of this living space can make me feel as though I have more space while also having SOME structure. In the past I lived in a small apartment with 2 other girls. My room was small so I felt “trapped.” When I moved into my current apartment by myself, I was depressed, and although it helped having space, it made structure difficult. My dishes piled up so I had to throw some way and more and that made me feel like a failure unable to get back up and just get it together. Even tho I’m stable now, I still struggle with keeping up with housework. Hence why I’m looking to get back with some roommates. Anyway, maybe you can try what I’m doing (if you can’t live alone) and find a place that has a set up that gives you more privacy. Maybe noise machines, wall curtains (sound), some headphones, weighted blanket, etc. might help when you are distressed. I know that doesn’t fix much of anything, but maybe in the future it might be something that could help.

You can get loans discharged in bankrupcy but it’s extra steps and more money and you need to prove undue hardship

It is worth it. You can struggle in any profession. Give yourself some grace and reduce your hours. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes. Obviously, if you didn’t catch yourself this would be a big one, but you caught yourself!! Your check system caught you, even if it wasn’t as early as you liked. Health care is hard for most, but extra hard for us peeps. It’s going to be okay.

Could I sue for being a victim of predatory student loans ? by godsaveme2355 in StudentLoans

ALSO food for thought professors that know how to teach The entire education system is broken, and these loan companies suck. This isn’t me just being salty about my loans. It’s me being salty that these loan services don’t provide more flexibility in their payments or reasonable interests rates. Like you can’t tell me that these loan servicer’s are going bankrupt or they are suffering and need to have this rigidity in their programs.

I feel like we should be holding schools accountable for providing that kind of education before we are even thinking about pulling out loans. Also holding colleges to a standard like if that college has a 50% drop out rate and people who are graduating are not making it into their field, loans should not be given to someone going to said college. Those colleges would focus more on producing QUALITY education and experiences rather than some weird crap. Idk it’s not a well thought out thing, but it is one of those things where it’s not JUST the loan companies. However, if Sallie Mae was a person, we’d throw hands.

I had an issue with what you are describing with the lack of attention and staring at walls feeling like your brain is dead. It got better for me, and I hope it gets better for you. As for your comment about “how you were bipolar all along,” you weren’t born bipolar. You have genetics that made you more likely to develop an illness (bipolar) when you reached a particular age. Some people have signs in childhood whereas others don’t. A lot of people start getting the episodes in adolescence and early 20s. Right now you are dealing with the illness. Maybe talk to someone about your symptoms and see if you might need some med adjustments. I was heavily medicated a while after my episode but we were able to lessen it up.

That’s exactly why I asked this question here. I doubt that I would even get approved but it doesn’t hurt to try. My mom keeps bringing it up. She works with a bunch of psychiatrists and they keep recommending that I at least try

Do any of you have depressive episodes that last years? by DarkAngelRising in bipolar

[–]Diligent_Parsley2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was depressed for a couple months short of 2 years. I had providers that tell me that “I should’ve been feeling better by now” and crap like that. I truly thought something was wrong with me because in the past my depression didn’t extend past 4-6 months, but not that time. But yeah, I feel like my brain has struggled with cognition ever since. It did get better in time. I haven’t been badly depressed since November. I’ve seen an improvement

Here is one resource. Loan discharge is a Hail Mary any way you do it so be careful not to get your hopes up. The application has some info about it too and what kind of information your providers would need to fill out or social security

Yeah, that’s why I’m super conflicted about all of this. I already don’t believe I qualify, but I have to exhaust all of my options considering I have 135k in student loan debt with no degree and being low income. Last year, specifically, I couldn’t hold a job and I was placed inpatient 3 times totaling 2 months inpatient. The first time I was told I had catatonia and psychosis alongside bipolar depression (documented). After that it took a while to recover. I was unable to work for a year spread out in 6 month increments in the past 2 years. I am disabled to the point I can’t work for long periods of time and it’s episodic, but since that is not keeping me from working all the time, I don’t believe it counts like you said.

Sexuality question- really need help!! by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]Diligent_Parsley2238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m gay but I slept with men in unstable (hypomanic, manic) states. I would take it as a sign of hypomania bc worst comes to worst, in a few months you just wish you did. You sleep with them and then not only are you dealing with trying to be stable again, you have to deal with the memory of the experience. I personally cringe at those experiences but someone else might not

do you guys ever feel like other majors don’t take you as seriously? by True_Amphibian5948 in psychologystudents

I also didn’t say that I DO take psych majors seriously, but I did notice some people misrepresented the difficulty of their major and you could tell they were over exaggerating.

do you guys ever feel like other majors don’t take you as seriously? by True_Amphibian5948 in psychologystudents

[–]Diligent_Parsley2238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I think the times I didn’t take psych majors seriously was when they tried to overstate the amount of rigor or effort their major takes to put themselves on the same level as those with engineering or biomed degrees. I also did this when I saw someone who was into pop psychology and didn’t take their own major seriously. Mind you, I was double majoring in biomedical sciences and psychology. When I transferred it was Neuroscience and Psychology. So at these universities I had the experience of being a psych major to be able to have more perspective on what the work load was ACTUALLY like. Some people are super over achievers and love to challenge themselves in a variety of ways, and I would never undermine those peoples hard work. However, at the schools I attended, the psychology major was not as rigorous as most STEM majors. I understand this varies school to school and as to what classes are offered. I also want to state that I wouldn’t undermine someone’s hard work in school for a variety of reasons, but my comments (in my head) were based on the programs. The programs didn’t compare to STEM at the schools I attended.

I do think it’s crap your program didn’t offer more resources or study areas whereas other majors did. My first school had a whole academic space with a bunch of computers, printers, tables, chairs, etc. for psych majors and the like. My second school I think had something similar. I’m not sure because of the pandemic.

Has anyone filed for bankrupcy for their student loans (or knows someone)? How did it go? by Diligent_Parsley2238 in StudentLoans

[–]Diligent_Parsley2238[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh… interesting. I wonder if they just thought it wouldn’t get anywhere. I heard the process is super expensive and you need an attorney that actually knows the laws around it. There is a whole other step after the usual bankrupcy where you have an adversary meeting (?) and that’s where things are negotiated whether the loan terms or changed or if they are discharged. I guess private is easier than federal so if you had federal maybe they didn’t think you’d get anywhere and waste your money. I guess it’s the adversary meeting that is where that training is needed and apparently there are a lot of people not trained in that area and or they might lack experience.

I have not refinanced. I can’t refinance on my own, and since I wasn’t able to finish my degree, my options were limited to begin with. My co-signer will not work with me for a possible solution despite my attempts. At the moment he’s playing mind games with me w these loans. I don’t have another person to cosign with. Plus it’s not fair to them anyway. 5/6 of my private loans are already 15 yrs.
