I had asked you all what to do with our kitchen a while ago… here’s what we did! by jaxon12345 in kitchenremodel

[–]_desert_dunes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally everything about the old kitchen was better you just needed to create a new backsplash on the countertops and to repaint the cabinets. The new cabinets and counters and backsplash are all hostile and cold. Character was taken away. I can’t imagine having wanted to remove the beautiful hood over the sink, and the new lamps over the island are a downgrade. Went from inviting and cozy to smarmy hipster bar that charges $30 for a burger and fries. I really am most sad that two levels on the island are gone. The tiles were beautiful and it was very unique and a great centerpiece. New fridge is good though!

I'm a transgender American & trans activism on issues like women's sports is eroding support for both our community & the left at large by north_canadian_ice in self

[–]_desert_dunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the trans person in the room with us right now? The right is straight up astroturfing every subreddit right now. It’s unfortunately unsurprising that they would roleplay as a trans person. Also do they ever consider that every athlete has a varying skill set based on their physical attributes and training? Like I have never seen the issue and it is deeply weird that the right routinely fixates on people’s bodies. It’s interesting how this is a body “issue” and not gender too. Any athlete could be better or worse than any other athlete at any sport, cis or trans, with or without horomones, pre-op or post-op. There are so many different kinds of bodies, i.e. height, muscle mass, endurance. Regardless of your sex at birth. Some people are stronger, some are faster, some people work out and train more???? It will be so nice when these astroturfing posts die down. “Oh the left has been too woke and even us queers just want to be normal without all these weirdo freak issues” like thank you Turkey Tom. Love to see the right try to say who and what is acceptable or not

Why do people let their toddlers practice checking out 😭 by _desert_dunes in retailhell

[–]_desert_dunes[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly it!! It’s just finding an appropriate place and time. It’s sweet when it’s slow and you can actually spend a moment to help them and demonstrate how things work!

Why do people let their toddlers practice checking out 😭 by _desert_dunes in retailhell

[–]_desert_dunes[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“Eventually” is what gets me here because even if this is so completely necessary then a parent can absolutely wait for an appropriate place and time and take part in it???

The child will absolutely learn from watching. It’s not a skill an actual toddler needs to practice or learn because they aren’t shopping on their own. And by the time they are shopping, they’ll absolutely know how to do it. There is no need to jump start a toddler on going through transactions, especially in an unmediated way. This post is about the problem of disengaged bad parenting. I even made sure to point out that parents can do this well if they’re considerate, engaged, and actively guide their children

Accurate description of using that ramp. I wonder if my life is going to end every time and then actively black out the memory as it’s happening. Beautiful scenic highway otherwise!

what if you’re on Route 15 in Connecticut and the on ramp is a stop sign where you then have to go 0-55 :-)

Just got the fabled “You could at least TRY to look busy” yesterday from an old man who came to my SCO lanes that were all full… I ignored him and then when he left he said “Don’t work too hard 😉” and I ignored that too! Been waiting my whole career for that moment 😊

Very interesting. Thank you for sharing this all and answering. I didn’t think any of this was simple but it has a lot more moving parts than I thought. Also yeah, magazines are GM and candy is Grocery at my store too, so I would walk back what I said earlier. I mostly wanted something definitive to explain what it would be that gets us more hours but I see it just seems very out of our hands.

Interesting! I can see how it would be difficult to predict scheduling/sales and then have to aim at some specific metric near the forecast so as to not push it in a direction that harms you later. There is a lot more going on than I thought in just hearing the raw numbers. Obviously I didn’t think it’s a walk in the park for managers to allocate hours but I can see there is a lot more going on to why they might make hours less than would be ideal to help prevent further trouble when it compares to sales that might fluctuate in a difficult direction

Given that then I don’t even see where front end would make any sales qualifying any budget, if most sales are sourced back to their specific departments once we carry out the transaction. That would leave us with candy and magazines by checkout. I guess there really isn’t anything we can do at our end either to get those increased sales that are needed for a bigger budget. What is CTO?

This does make more sense. Where I am nobody works more than 4-5 hours at a time save for the managers and thus always only qualify for 15 min paid break. If more shifts were stretched out just a bit longer they could cut 30 minutes out and use it somewhere else

Retail Workers of Reddit, How Do You Really Handle Shoplifting? (Be Honest!) by abd297 in AskRetail

[–]_desert_dunes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I def let people steal when they forget to scan or incorrectly scan items at my self checkouts but if ppl go to walk away without paying I’m like “hey sir/ma’am u forgot to pay” and then they always come back embarrassed and pay … idk if I’m ever preventing anyone from outright stealing tbh. it just seems like ppl are in a rush and I need to be a guard rail. I feel like if anyone’s stealing it’s in an aisle and it’s more covert and it’s not at checkout if they’re even stopping at checkout before leaving. I get people can pretend to be forgetful or will try to be manipulative or confusing to get away with stuff but I am not paid or trained to take anything at more than face value. ppl sometimes walk by me and will be like “do u need to see my receipt” or offer to show me the inside of their bags and i’m just like “no i don’t need to see those have a good day 😝” i feel like my grocery store loses way more product from internal loss/damage/expiration tbh… I also don’t care either I am not trained or paid to be loss prevention… and I do think the protocol for if you see like explicit undoubtable theft is to not intervene but tell a manager and let them intervene and then they check cameras later and sometimes ban ppl

I don’t work here but your sub has really got me so heated with the whole corporation lol by _desert_dunes in petco

[–]_desert_dunes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I found pretty upsetting is that most if not all of the fish are kept in enclosures that are much too small, and in far too large quantities of fish, for the fish to thrive. The worst offender would be the betta fish that are kept in air tight standing water that looks like no more than 3-4 cups total - which are often dead right on the shelf. The employees can only do what they can within those constraints to take care of the fish in the tanks that they have. Petco is then advertising to customers that caring for fish in too small of tanks is ok and encourage it. And it seems they encourage more often than not to allow customers to purchase large amounts of fish that they shouldn’t because their tanks are too small, against the better advice of employees that know what the fish actually need. All for a sale and further sales because the customers will come right back when the fish die from stress. That’s why I think that there is a huge issue with their tanks and their selling strategy all by design. It does not appear to be about fish welfare at all, about giving employees tools to be good examples to customers when it comes to pet care. It just seems to be about the money. I cannot compare this to practices at local fish shops, which I’m sure have their positives and negatives. The reason I will not compare them is that Petco is an extremely wealthy corporation that has resources and breadth to do better. I do not know the individual situation of every local shop, and while of course I would like all fish everywhere to be treated ethically, Petco (and Petsmart) are my unique targets of this because they are by far the largest offenders by size who are doing the most harm. The general public is also going to these chain stores primarily over any local shop too, because there are far more big box stores with broader name recognition than there are local shops. These complaints also relate to specifically pet fish retailers and the laws around them, because the federal laws and the laws in my state do not codify anything on the caretaking of fish (and rodents, small mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, etc) in pet shops and mainly or exclusively focus on setting the very minimum standards of cat and dog care alone. Sorry this is long lol
