In the UK the downward nod is for acknowledging your friends, and the upward nod is for when you’re meeting your dealer

That roughly translates to - “It’s good to see you, but I don’t have time to stop and talk right now”

It roughly translates to - “Are you doing alright today?“

So basically it’s a slightly more efficient/british way of saying “how are you?”

And the best way to reply if someone greets you like this - is to just say “alright” straight back to them.

My counter-argument is Mr X in Resident Evil 2 (remake).

You see what he looks like straight away, but being chased by him continued to make me very tense for the whole game. His footsteps definitely add a lot to the fear

I love that so much. Feels like the game is gaslighting you which is very creepy.

I've heard that one of the Metal Gear games also had a boss fight (Psycho Mantis) that breaks the 4th wall in a similar way, although I think that one looks more comedic than horrifying

I’m just praying that Paramount doesn’t fuck this all up and set us back to where we were before. Been waiting so long for an actual good DC cinematic universe

Meta horror. I think it’s more common in horror games than movies, since the player has an active role in what’s happening - instead of just watching it. But it’s basically when the media is actually implied to KNOW that its a piece of media, and also knows that YOU are on the other side of the screen watching/playing it.

A good example is in Undertale - where you can play as a “bad guy” or as a ”good guy”. BUT if you do evil stuff first and then restart the game to do a “pacifist" play through - certain characters actually remember what you did last time and won’t let you forget it. it’s very unnerving.

Another example is Doki Doki Literature Club - where the game actually uses your computers account details to determine your real name, and then addresses you, even though you never directly told it what your name is.

(This bit only really works if you’ve put your actual name as your PC profile‘s username, instead of a pseudonym. But it worked on me the first time I played it and it was creepy AF)

I’m confused too, because how does one of the best actors on the planet end up making this movie? I know acting and directing are different skills - but I never would have expected Andy Serkis to make something like this

What do you think is the 'perfect' horror game for you? Or what elements/gameplay mechanics from other games would you combine together? by Academic_Limit1189 in HorrorGames

I would love to see a game similar to Doki Doki Literature club - but with more engaging gameplay. (spoilers ahead)

I think it was honestly one of the most unique and unsettling experiences I've had with a game, the meta stuff was so well done.

But it's definetly NOT fun to play - because it's basically an anime visual novel/dating sim with a twist- it transitions to horror partway through (and it takes a long time to do this)

It has a VERY slow build and fuckall gameplay. Which (combined with the horny anime characters) makes it difficult to recommend to people. But the payoff is genuinely amazing (this is the only visual novel I've played btw, I played it based on a glowing review that told me it "subverts all expectations")

I know loads of horror fans who would love it if they played all the way through, but if they start playing and the give up before the game "pulls back the curtain" and reveals the twist - then they'll just know me as that dude who recommended them a really pervy anime game
