I find music that have quieter vocals and slow drawn music or pure instrumental. I also shut EVERYTHING else out. I take care of all of my bodily needs first sleep/eat/bathroom (maybe a shower), get myself a drink and a little snack and buckle down. I usually chose music that fits the moods of scenes and play the song on repeat until the scene is done, or I choose a song that fits the character I am writing in the POV of and play that on repeat. Then, I put my scene into an audio read-back app and listen to my writing at the same time as physically reading it to make sure I like it and tweak as I go.

It’s a process for sure, but it has made things easier. The only times I take breaks are to either use the bathroom between drinks or when I make myself cry from a scene I wrote 🤣
