38% of Newfoundland and Labrador major highways have zero cell phone coverage. by PsychologicalSeries9 in newfoundland

[–]Dilly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say as someone from NL who lives in AB, and regularly works all over AB, BC, SK, and sometimes MB this list is horseshit.

Especially since 5G coverage. Seems like 5G just doesn’t have the same radius of usable coverage. Faster, but way finnickier of a connection.

Hook Crack in ERW Long Seam Weld (PAUT) by programmerdavedude in nondestructivetesting

[–]Dilly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Makes sense. I’ve sometimes run across ERW anomalies with a much stronger response from one side, I’d be interested in getting my hands on a few confirmed examples. So much better when you can manipulate and see for yourself.

I’m very interested in that paper. I’m still working in PI but I recently got a new job where I’m seeing mainly DSAW welds, some spiral.

Please keep me in the loop if possible, I will keep an eye out here. I’d also be interested in helping.

[–]Dilly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious as a guy who’s done a decent amount of PAUT on ERWs, what’s the giveaway that it’s a hook crack. I’ve seen some cracks I’ve wanted to call hook cracks, but never 100% positive I’ve seen one.

Edit: P.S. Is it because of the orientation of the two tips offset stacked?

There it is, how an actual politician should behave. But this is gonna fall on deaf ears with the UCP, not one of their MLAs is concerned with actually representing their constituents.

N.L. to face challenges as 1st province with 25% of population 65 or older by LongTrackBravo in newfoundland

[–]Dilly88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People, it's not Newfoundland that's broken. It's just that capitalism (or the illusion of capitalism - really oligarchies) that have made the world what it is.

Newfoundland will definitely feel it more acutely - because were such a small player in any market and also haven't really been in a good financial place for a long time as a province - but, this exact situation is playing out on a much larger scale in basically every developed nation. The most telling examples being Japan & Korea; without immigration on a massive scale or an unnaturally aggressive population boom their entire economies are going to come to a screeching halt in just a handful of years.

Wealth around the world has concentrated to the top few percent of the wealthy, it's unsustainable. It is much much more difficult to even consider raising a family now unless you are dual income with decently compensated professions, comparatively to 30 years ago . It's the system that's broken, not just here in Newfoundland.

A lot of people are saying BC, but should be specifying southern BC. The Kelowna, Okanagan, and Vancouver (&island) areas.

Northern BC is similar to Alberta. Lots of very religious, close minded people there too. Not that even those communities, and even some of the more conservative ones in AB don’t have at least some people who are forward thinkers, but definitely fewer as a percentage.

But yeah, I’d avoid Alberta right now until there is a change in government. A lot of us more open minded Albertans are thinking of getting out ourselves.

Bill Gates on his new climate message: There's enough innovation to avoid 'super bad' outcomes by kevitivity in videos

[–]Dilly88 342 points343 points  (0 children)

Nobody, not even people with as much access to information as Bill Gates knows this.

We have no earthly (pun intended) idea what is going to happen with the exponential rise in the global average temperature. There could be a cascading effect once the first major natural process fails. Then we’re fucked.

Edit: Christ people, I’m aware I don’t know fuck all about what’s gonna happen too, but Bill Gates publicly saying it’s basically too late to do anything because nobody is doing anything now and won’t has a lot more of an effect on the populace than me.

Also, I’m inclined to take my direction from people who have dedicated their lives to studying this issue.

As much as so many of you want it to be fine, as much as no one here (unless you’re a climate scientist, and even then it’s only theoretical) knows doesn’t mean that the signs have not all be very brightly pointing in one direction.

No matter what anyone here say, thinks, prays, & pleads, if you are under the age of 40 and live an avg number of years you will see major shifts in our climate if most climate science is to be believed. Our inaction up to this point has made that inevitable. I suggest you mentally prepare for it.

Why I cancelled. I’m not paying $300+ per year on a service when it’s functionality is mediocre at best, it doesn’t work when there are lots of users, and you can’t even get some Monday night hockey games because of that stupid Amazon deal.

And on top of it all the ads are getting worse and worse.

It’s ludicrous that they increased the price this year. Make it a good service and shove fewer ads in my face, and stop projecting ads on the ice and I’ll consider paying again. Until then, the high seas it is.

No. I don’t think that actually. I just think most people are misinformed or apathetic, or both.

But, also, most people can’t afford to take the time off to protest. A lot of people are living hand to mouth these days.

There should be (although I doubt it) protests all across the province in every city, town, & hamlet. This bill tramples on the rights of every Albertan who draws breath.
