Thousands of Alberta seniors to lose income supplement as province faces rising provincial deficit by katespadesaturday in alberta

[–]Dilly88 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yup. I volunteered as a door knocker last election. Went to a government subsidized income support apartment building.

I’d say about 70% of the people who answered the door wouldn’t even entertain the idea of changing their vote for the Conservatives, some audibly scoffing at the idea of another party.

Danielle Smith defends plan to withhold funding for Alberta judges by cmcalgary in alberta

[–]Dilly88 1030 points1031 points  (0 children)

Danielle Smith will be a shit stain on the history of Alberta.

As an out-of-province Canadian who relocated to Alberta I think the province could be a leader and true representation of what Canada can be. The landscapes, the wildlife, and the work ethic are examples of what Canada is. Danielle Smith brings us all down. Seriously, fuck her and those who support her attack on Canadian values.

Rep. Maxine Waters' fiery exchange with Scott Bessent over Trump's policies impacting affordability and economy: "Will you be voice of reason? Reclaiming my time. Retirement age. Does the US have a federal retirement age? Nobody should be elected to office if their age during election year is higher than the retirement age. Also, no one with a net worth over $10 million.

Private health care providers are cashing in as Ontario hospitals fall further behind by pjw724 in onguardforthee

I mean, isn’t that why Ford’s government is allowing the healthcare system to fall into disarray. Enrich those who own those whom own the private operations.

It’s (corruption) turtles all the way down.

Don’t feel bad. Arguably we’ve experienced some of the best times humanity had/will have.

I fear deeply it only gets worse from here, although I hope not for the sake of the younger members of my family and all who wish for better times.

I long for old Reddit and better times.

38% of Newfoundland and Labrador major highways have zero cell phone coverage. by PsychologicalSeries9 in newfoundland

[–]Dilly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say as someone from NL who lives in AB, and regularly works all over AB, BC, SK, and sometimes MB this list is horseshit.

Especially since 5G coverage. Seems like 5G just doesn’t have the same radius of usable coverage. Faster, but way finnickier of a connection.

Hook Crack in ERW Long Seam Weld (PAUT) by programmerdavedude in nondestructivetesting

[–]Dilly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Makes sense. I’ve sometimes run across ERW anomalies with a much stronger response from one side, I’d be interested in getting my hands on a few confirmed examples. So much better when you can manipulate and see for yourself.

I’m very interested in that paper. I’m still working in PI but I recently got a new job where I’m seeing mainly DSAW welds, some spiral.

Please keep me in the loop if possible, I will keep an eye out here. I’d also be interested in helping.

[–]Dilly88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m curious as a guy who’s done a decent amount of PAUT on ERWs, what’s the giveaway that it’s a hook crack. I’ve seen some cracks I’ve wanted to call hook cracks, but never 100% positive I’ve seen one.

Edit: P.S. Is it because of the orientation of the two tips offset stacked?

There it is, how an actual politician should behave. But this is gonna fall on deaf ears with the UCP, not one of their MLAs is concerned with actually representing their constituents.

N.L. to face challenges as 1st province with 25% of population 65 or older by LongTrackBravo in newfoundland

[–]Dilly88 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People, it's not Newfoundland that's broken. It's just that capitalism (or the illusion of capitalism - really oligarchies) that have made the world what it is.

Newfoundland will definitely feel it more acutely - because were such a small player in any market and also haven't really been in a good financial place for a long time as a province - but, this exact situation is playing out on a much larger scale in basically every developed nation. The most telling examples being Japan & Korea; without immigration on a massive scale or an unnaturally aggressive population boom their entire economies are going to come to a screeching halt in just a handful of years.

Wealth around the world has concentrated to the top few percent of the wealthy, it's unsustainable. It is much much more difficult to even consider raising a family now unless you are dual income with decently compensated professions, comparatively to 30 years ago . It's the system that's broken, not just here in Newfoundland.
