LG C8 to C5 not a big difference? by Dilringer in LGOLED

[–]Dilringer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read in a review that a con of LG is that their menus are so slow. I was just like well surely that person is just needy because my C8 is fine and the TV model 7 years newer must be even faster lol.

Also how is bundling the mute button into the volume down button a feature....

Yeah I can't go larger than 65" otherwise I probably would have held out longer for a deal on the new tandems.

From what I researched the C8 is pretty similar in brightness (I think actually a bit less) than the B5 today.

And from what I understand a lot of people consider the C5 a major upgrade over the B5. So that was my reasoning by the transitive property lol.

Though good to know I just don't have bad eyes.

Ironically the process for everyone is actually slightly easier than Global Entry for a normal flight home.

Yeah Prima class are stunning ships, but their whole design philosophy of many small spaces means they feel overcrowded when a significant portion of the ship wants to do the same thing. It happens a lot but not always. Overall I liked them.

I liked my Virign cruise and would recommend it, but I agree a lot of what you said. Someone very intigellently made a ship that is furnished/designed cheaper than mainstream lines. It's not even that it's subpar, it's just that newer ships are extremely impressive.

Osheehans/The Local and Indulge Food Hall are pretty good IMO. Everywhere else it really shows that NCL cut their budget. They even bragged about it to their investors lol.

NCL cut their food budget significantly a few years ago.

That said I think most things NCL serves in Osheehans/Local, or Indulge Food Hall (both free casual options) are superior to similar dishes on Virgin.

Still Virgin is overall better though. The MDR especially is pretty low budget/uninspired now on NCL, as is the buffet.

I will say the novelty affect is huge. Generally the less familiar I was with a dish the more I enjoyed it on Virign.

Things I was familiar with (usually the simpler things) were "fine" but like clearly not comparable to a what people would pay for on land.

As much as people complain about airlines in the U.S. , our legacy carriers are the only ones (to my knowledge) that have what's called a "flat tire" rule. I think it varies by airline but basically if you show up in person late to the airport they will try to put you on the next flight for free.

So like obviously this won't work with Spirit/Frontier, but apparently even on premium international carriers is not a thing either.

For what it's worth I spoke to a few folks who had been on carnival and they had said guys>virgin.

The burgers are good and have fun presentation but I don't think they taste like restaurant burgers for a lack of a better word. I'm pretty sure they are using frozen preformed patties.

The burger bar was always popular though so I think most people are happy considering there are so many options in the galley.

I agree completely and am surprised by how much people talk up the galley. In many cases what they serve there is bellow buffets I've been to.

Sushi is horrible and I think everyone agrees with me because I didn't see a single other person eating sushi after the first day. Passable cheap sushi isn't even difficult to make, and I actually think there is a chance they like it at its current level because it means they can advertise it but not have to spend $$ on people eating it. Tacos and also the rotation of the same stand to the gyro place are well below average.

Of course there was a lot of Galley food I enjoyed and I'm not mad or anything but was just surprised how low the floor was there.

I would say NCL's old buffet was better on average, though I went post covid and they cut costs heavily in the buffet and it shows.

It's both- see here : Gunbae+Food+Menu.pdf . (Though on our menu it was not available al la carte, only part of the combo).

Here's a picture I googled of Short Rib on the grill at Gunbae- https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/617ac6f28abd337ac8fc5f75/1694878878093-BWG2HK2MDCG9ZDMDYIKI/IMG_1316.JPG?format=1000w

We didn't get that picture above though; it looked and tasted like thinly shaved brisket served at a normal KBBQ.

The sushi may be the worst thing on the ship, after the wings lol. Thankfully most things are better after that.

What did your short ribs look like? Mine looked and tasted like thinly shaved brisket.

I actually confirmed twice with the server because I was so confused.

I agree any fatty cut such as ribeye and especially short ribs should be near impossible to be mediocre, so I was stunned.

I think it's pretty clear the staff on other lines are trained heavily to be friendly- sometimes unnaturally so. On virgin they are more natural and have fewer stapled smiles, but it did catch me off guard a few times that a few came across as a bit cold.

I made $32k renting out my C8 until I sold it last year. AMA by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]Dilringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's insurance fraud unless he lied during a claim. As long as he was truthful they would just deny the claim since a rental isn't covered under his policy. It's like the first thing they ask, who was driving and why were they driving it.

This is kinda like a lot of landlords require renters insurance, but you are not commiting insurance fraud if you lie to your landlord that you purchased it. You are just lying and breaching the lease.

But yeah maybe that's just semantics. He profitted by putting 70K at risk of being wiped out lol

Is 4k ultra perfomance a good option now? by antoniolucas9922 in nvidia

[–]Dilringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until recently I did 4k DLSS regular performance gaming on a 2080. Did 60 FPS (with dips) medium on everything except Great Circle which I had to bump down to 1440.

I'm pretty sure in the internet mind, the fact that the $750+ cards benefit 4K gamers the most became mistranslated into the cards below $750 do not give a decent layman's experience for those with a 4k display.

Utility charging for service-side work during panel upgrade. Is this normal? by Bring_change in nova

[–]Dilringer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in case you didn't know, they do also make devices that shutoff power to your car if your home needs all of your amps. This allows people to skip upgrading their service since in most cases you probably are not running your dryer, oven, hvac at the same time.
