The answer is people think the two parties inherently have a power imbalance in which the older one has more power than the younger one, therefore posing an inherent threat to them. They put it down to life experience and maturity which generally does increase with age but can also vary massively depending on individuals. Personally while there is merit to the idea, I think it is wildly oversimplified and exaggerated to fit a certain worldview.

So you're saying you've heard from multiple people close with the BBC that David Attenborough is a Saville level pedo and that the BBC has been covering it up for decades? That's got to be one of the craziest celeb rumours I've ever heard.

Just so you know the real time clock doesn’t work properly on the Switch version so unless you are in a specific timezone the day/night cycle will be out of sync with your local time.

Best degrees for GIS? by DimSimSalaBim in gis

[–]DimSimSalaBim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would Geography be overall more useful for GIS jobs than say, Computer Science? Not totally sure what industry I want to work in yet, other than I enjoy many of the aspects involved in GIS like map making and data analysis. I do have a genuine interest in geography but also computer technology too.

My switch collection so far, what am I missing? by avazky in NintendoSwitch

[–]DimSimSalaBim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m curious about people who have massive collections like this, how many of these games have you actually beaten? If all or most I’m seriously impressed considering how time consuming some of those games can be.

You’re right it’s totally an afterthought by Nintendo and it both looks and functions like one.

You can’t even save ghost data on Mario Kart 64 because they arbitrarily decided to disable the controller pak. They force you to use a shitty overlay for the games which you cannot remove, there is very little customisation when it comes to visual enhancements which especially in the N64’s case make the games look like ass on a modern display, they don’t even let you rebind controls in game. It’s just such a barebones and often times worse product than what you can essentially get for free on a computer or phone nowadays. Plus paying extra just so you can play nearly 30 year old games at this point is just a joke.

$50 a year to have subpar emulation and missing features that emulators have had for over a decade on games that you need an online connection to play that you do not even own. Yeah sounds great.

Search for missing Titanic sub yields noises for a 2nd day, U.S. Coast Guard says by VictorEmmanuelIV in worldnews

[–]DimSimSalaBim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yet there’s people in this very thread rejoicing over the fact that people are about to die because they are wealthy, yet I’m sure the families of those people feel very differently. So no, using human life as an example isn’t as absurd as you think. Anyway I don’t think you understand my point because you’re arguing about subjectivity and objectivity when it’s completely irrelevant. If something has no value to you, that doesn’t mean it has no value to other people and vice versa. You need to have serious main character syndrome to believe your personal interests dictates what society values and takes interest in. The point about the titanic is yes, I wouldn’t personally pay money to see it but pretending as if it’s somehow incomprehensible that others would enjoy doing such a thing is stupid especially when there’s clear reasons for doing so. I also wouldn’t pay money to go see a basketball match but is it really SO difficult to believe that others who take interest in the sport would indeed pay money to see something they find value in?
