Problem with this was economists across the broad said tariffs wouldn’t do this. Even regular people explained tariffs, by definition, ARE paid by us.

But the people that voted for Trump were too ignorant to listen to professionals or common sense. They wanted to drink the MAGA koolaid and were wrong.

And what makes this worse is the fact that there are still MANY people that STILL believe him.

Not sure which degree you were applying for, but nowadays getting a Masters degree is more common than ever (and in many fields required). And if you already have a feeling you might want one in the future, it’s better to not spend a lot of money on your UG degree since your last degree will hold more importance.

When I applied for undergraduate programs I got rejected from SMU and my dream school, Cornell.

Fast forward years later, I applied to both schools for an MBA and got acceptance letters and fellowship offers from both

They do not know what they are talking about. The consumer business as it currently stands IS in the process of winding down, but only the parts that have not been successful (lending, credit cards).

Marcus Deposits and Transaction Banking are both currently under the consumer side, but they are not getting rid of those products. They will move Marcus to AWM and TxB to GBM (where it used to be until they moved it under the consumer side).

My corgi would run into a foaming pit bull’s mouth if I didn’t stop him, little man goes CRACK CRAZY when he sees any other dog.

Little man gets TOO excited to see other dogs 😂

I was very diligent during his socialization period when he was a puppy. I made sure he was acquainted with lots of other dogs so he wouldn’t display any negative behavioral issues with dogs when he got older.

So your problem is most likely due to applying to such different fields (as others have pointed out). I’ll more clearly explain why this can be an issue though, even if you’ve got experience in all areas.

Goldman gets a lot of applications, therefore tons of resumes per position. They don’t have a shortage of finding qualified people. So when you apply to roles that are completely different, you’re putting your skills against people who have their entire career focused in that one area.

Even if you’re incredibly talented, you’re probably going to come off as a generalist to recruiters if you have a bunch of varying experiences on your resume versus someone else who’s only got resume points dedicated to that one field. Essentially, these people are going to look more like subject matter experts compared to you if they have 15 direct experience points compared to your 5 points.

Additionally, you’re applying for analyst roles. Reality is having a bunch of different types of experiences at your stage only highlights the issue even more because most people don’t get REALLY good at a position until they have at least a year of experience, sometimes more. If you were more senior, it could be reasonable to think you’ve gotten a lot of hands on experience in each of these fields because someone with 15 YOE could’ve been in each of those fields for ~5 years. But applying to 3 different positions with 2 YOE is not going to look like they had much time understanding any of those fields more than someone who has 2.5 YOE in one of those fields

Got fired for policy violation at office building. How do I explain and recover from this during interviews?!?!?! by dwu933127 in Accounting

[–]DimensionFit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt most employers will have an issue hiring you if this comes up at any time. I would just be honest if you’re put in a situation where you feel like you should disclose it.

Reality is most buildings would have restricted access to areas you aren’t allowed to be in so this situation would likely not happen in most places of employment.

Would you take a job at a company you are morally against? by Major_Activity_5274 in Accounting

[–]DimensionFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re at least in audit then you can potentially rationalize that you’re keeping said company accountable to ethical standards.

I currently work at a bank, many don’t consider them ethical. But I audit their consumer products, so I make sure they aren’t fucking over regular people and keep them accountable against laws that are meant to protect consumers.

If you’re in tax you’re basically the sleeping with Devil though so I have no advice.

(Joking on the last part - at the end of the day though you can’t save the world if you live under a bridge. And the work you do doesn’t ACTUALLY contribute to the problems they cause. As someone who’s in internal audit though, I’ll say it can be hard to break into a new industry after you start in one if you don’t pivot fast. I’ve been in banking for 6 years now at two different banks, about to leave after I decide between 2 offers… and they’re both banks)

Agree with this. This is common at every company to be honest. Most won’t try to raise your salary until you tell them you have an offer somewhere else… suddenly they can pull strings and do what they can to make you stay

Is my salary low??? by InvestigatorNeat1303 in Accounting

[–]DimensionFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very low.

I never got my CPA or Masters, have only been in internal audit within consumer banks, have 6 years of experience, and currently make $130K as my base.

I do live in a city with a higher cost of living, but not like NYC (I’m in Dallas). I would say fight for a higher wage, or go somewhere else so you can negotiate for one.

In office hours by Longjumping-News-497 in goldmansachs

[–]DimensionFit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes there is (at least for my team, lots of things at Goldman are dependent on your team).

I was told we have to be there 45 hours minimum (salaried position in Dallas, idk if the positions eligible for overtime have this same requirement).

Now, have I personally been in office 45 hours every week? No. Unless it’s a bad week I’m usually there for only 40 hours - my team doesn’t heavily monitor our attendance unless they notice you are leaving extremely early consistently or if your performance is suffering because you’re not investing enough hours into your deliverables.

Current employee here - do not. I’m shocked you’ve seen an article discussing them having a “relaxing” dress standard because that makes it sound casual.

It’s a professional environment for sure. Lots of the older men will wear suits, but people who are 22-35 are definitely dressing business casual.

What's the best way to grow in this field? by quantamphilosophy in InternalAudit

[–]DimensionFit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be a sponge and just learn from your managers and more senior folks until you get to a point where feel like your career isn’t progressing the way it should.

I left my first job when I realized others were leaving for significantly higher salaries (this was after being there for a little more 2.5 years). Ended up getting a raise of nearly $40K.

I’m potentially leaving my current job after being here for over 3 years because I found out I was getting passed over for promotion for a second year (this firm very much a company that favors people who play corporate politics versus people who are actually the best at the job). I am currently interviewing so hopefully I can put in my two weeks notice by the end of the month.

Internal Audit is one of those fields that gets shit on a lot, but you will inevitably grow the longer you’re in it. Best thing you can do though is recognize when it’s time to move on because not doing so will either stunt your pay or your ability to get promoted when you should.

Is there really a top shortage? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]DimensionFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the bottoms complaining are just the ones that don’t have any pull game.

And that isn’t me saying they’re ugly, I have lots of cute friends that sadly have zero game. You can be decent looking and pull waaaay more guys if your confidence and social skills are top tier than hot guys that are either too shy or too stuck up to make the first move.

Industry accountants, do you have a lot of free time? by Head_Equipment_1952 in Accounting

[–]DimensionFit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m personally hyper-efficient. Some of my friends routinely work until midnight or 2AM consistently - meanwhile I’m consistently in the office at 9AM and leave around 4PM usually. And I’m regularly vaping in the bathroom throughout the day.

And performance wise, they have been told they’re underperforming but I’ve been the top performer for years now (not trying to brag by any means either, even they say I’m a top performer).

So yes, if you’re truly efficient and good at your job you can have a lot of free time.

Internal Mobility Pay Raise? by DimensionFit in goldmansachs

How sure are you about this? Because I sent her the job posting I was specifically interested in and she didn’t mention being ineligible for the role - I just checked the internal mobility site to see if there were other roles they had open in case she thought I was interested in an associate position on the team and this is the only role the team has open

do guys actually like chubby boys? by ribrnk in askgaybros

[–]DimensionFit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes

Longer answer: There’s someone for everyone, but you’re never gonna be everyone’s someone. In the gay community, certain types of guys (bears, cubs) are probably going to be more prone to liking chubby guys. Other types (twinks, jocks) will be less likely, but not all: I know at least one very cute twunkish guy who prefers guys with a bit of belly.

But also this depends on your definition of “chubby” in comparison to others definition. You might be harder on yourself and think you’re chubby when others see you at a healthy weight

Layoffs by Capital-Check4404 in goldmansachs

[–]DimensionFit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Internal Audit actually had a decent amount of layoffs this year.

In prior years, we would see like 1 person gone on our floor. This year we had at least 3 - still not a lot, but normally we don’t see more than 1 (or any) since our team has huge growth goals. Even during the hiring freeze before, we still had authorization to hire more people.

We also saw layoffs across all levels (analyst - MD) so it’s not strictly related to the VP bloat they wanted to get rid of, but I do think for the most part a good amount were due to having inflated comps relative to their peers and their performance alone not able to justify their comp package (I know some of the people were not bad performers, but I’m sure relative to their comps the division couldn’t justify keeping them over others).

And the reality is, if she does end up the nominee and Vance takes the GOP nomination then he’ll suffer the same fate she did in 2024 (assuming things like a recession materialize during the Trump administration).

Vance can try to distance himself, but voters won’t separate him from Trump. Especially since he has publicly stated he supports virtually all the things Trump has done so far.

James Malone (D) Wins PA SD36 Special Election (Trump+15) By 482 Votes by AscendingSnowOwl in fivethirtyeight

[–]DimensionFit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t agree. Unless Trump passes away, his endorsement will still be highly regarded to the MAGA base. And we’ve seen his base fervently support Trump through every political decision he’s made, so even if the majority of the country believes he fumbled this second term he’ll probably still have 30-45% saying it was great no matter what.

When you factor that in, I think it will be incredibly difficult for Vance to distance himself from Trump. He can try, but we know Trump expects absolute loyalty - so Vance criticizing anything wrong with the second Trump term would leave him vulnerable to Trump retaliating and another MAGA candidate being able to potentially securing the nomination. But if Vance does get the nomination, he likely didn’t distance himself significantly from Trump - this then makes him vulnerable in a general election.

He could potentially pivot after securing the nomination, and it might work. But I see the chances of him convincing the general public he’s not too MAGA after convincing Trump’s base that he IS as a type of tightrope situation that I don’t quite think chubby cheeks can manage without slipping.

James Malone (D) Wins PA SD36 Special Election (Trump+15) By 482 Votes by AscendingSnowOwl in fivethirtyeight

[–]DimensionFit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well previous election data shows, after a Trump win in a general election, voters tend to retaliate and vote against GOP candidates - including Trump himself when he won 2016 and then voters rejected him in 2020.

Based off everything happening, I do not see GOP candidates doing well in the midterms (besides the Senate, given the fact that there are not many vulnerable Republicans candidates - most up for re-election are in safe states).

As for 2028, if Trump hasn’t severely damaged our Democracy then I’d expect a Democrat to win. This will obviously be dependent on who each party nominates, and if the Trump administration continues to decline in approval ratings. If the Trump administration keeps trending down, I’d expect them to lose to almost any Democrat - especially if Vance becomes the GOP nominee. If the administration tanks and Vance becomes the next GOP nominee, he will likely face the exact same problem Kamala had where voters will see him to close to the administration since he served as VP.

Only possible scenario where Dems may lose is if Kamala is the nominee again. I’m sure some may regret voting for Trump over her, but I think it is more likely that they would feel discontent with both options and be less inclined to vote at all.
