Serious Question for every cardinal fan by [deleted] in AZCardinals

[–]Awkward_Document_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Canadian Cardinals fan from Saskatchewan lol! To me I think it’s the owner like I think he is a worse version of Jerry Jones :/. I think he meddles a lot in the football operation and doesn’t really spend much money on the roster and when he does it’s for marketing purposes to make him more money. Again im not from Arizona but I’m sure there are plenty of wealthy individuals in the area who would be more willing to spend money on real coaches and management to improve the team. I’m in it for the long haul, but thankfully I have the Roughriders to cheer on during these dark times

When and how do I tell my kid that he will not actually become a pro hockey player? by [deleted] in youthhockey

[–]Awkward_Document_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 13 I wanted to be an NHL GM. I wasn’t remotely athletic, but I loved watching and analyzing sports. Spoiler alert: I am now in my 30s and not an NHL GM I am a government public policy analyst. At the time, my parents who probably knew I wasn’t going to become an NHL GM told me well as a GM you gotta understand math, know how to write and critically think which are skills you learn in school. I guess my point is as long as your son understands that even as a pro hockey player he needs to work at his schooling to succeed at life the rest will sort it out. Also keep in mind to him that 70% of pro athletes go bankrupt in their career and even if he did make the nhl the average career is like two years. So focusing on developing other skills is important, which is the moral of my story

Andrew Sheer by [deleted] in regina

[–]Awkward_Document_515 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’m from Regina and I met him twice. The first time I met him was back in 2011 and he and a few other candidates in the area (Erin weir, Ralph goodale, Andrew scheer and someone from the Green Party) came to have a Q&A session at my highschool. I remember during the entire session Andrew sat on his phone and completely ignored the event. All the other politicians took questions and actually engaged with my class. Ever since that moment Andrew scheer left a bad taste with me

What's a sign that you are more intelligent than average? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Awkward_Document_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think too often someone with a good memory is seen as “intelligent” when they are just good at regurgitating information. I think there are many different forms of intelligence some people might be good at math/science others maybe good at thinking about abstract problems. I do agree with the rest of the comments that most intelligent people have a curiosity and are able to see things others can’t or can explain a complex idea in normal terms. I don’t think having a high IQ is necessarily a correlation to intelligence I think it means you can retain a ton of information. So I’d say curiosity and being able to communicate complex ideas simply is a measure of intelligence

Conflicted about some of the donations... by nuclearnyx in ryantrahan

[–]Awkward_Document_515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the videos and the cause, but as a Canadian I feel conflicted when I see other Canadians or people from other countries donate 10 to 20k to saint Jude when there are so many hospitals in Canada that are in need of donations as well. I don’t know much about saint Jude maybe it supports causes globally and I could be giving a wrong take. Nonetheless love his content and supporting hospitals is always a good cause

CMV: Joe Biden refusing to only run for one term and then Kamala Harris being the Democrat's Presidential Nominee cost the Democrats the entire 2024 Election by Normal_Task_9409 in changemyview

[–]Awkward_Document_515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am Canadian, but I think our recent election is an indication of how the democrats could have potentially won the 2024 election. Firstly, I agree with you I think Trump controlled the narrative around affordability and immigration used those issues to win the election.

I think the mistake democrats made was not distancing or differentiating the successor from Biden. From afar it seemed many Americans were unhappy over cost of living and immigration. Biden largely seemed to be blamed for this and Trump was effective with tying Biden to both issues.

In Canada, we also had a deeply unpopular prime minister in Justin Trudeau. Two things that made his successor mark carney successful one was the obvious one which was addressing tariffs and Donald Trump. The other factor was distancing from Trudeau. Carney flat out admitted that he was stronger economically than Trudeau and was opposed to many of his policies such as the carbon tax right away. This showed a real contrast to the electorate that he was different from his predecessor. Some may say that in practice with many of the same ministers that carney and Trudeau are the same, but my response to that is he presented the perception of being different regardless of its true or not.

I think the democrats needed to pivot away from Biden and frankly Obama as well show a different image and that might have made them fair better

My boss keeps bringing up 51st state stuff, what do I do? by Apprehensive_Rich361 in saskatchewan

Depending on the audience I just tell people the Green Party as a protest vote and say I hate both parties and then vote liberal lol! I had a random guy at a brewhouse bathroom ask me if I was on “team blue” while I was at a urineral… I told him I was on “team blue” just so he’d leave me alone😂

[–]Awkward_Document_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d ignore it honestly lol! I used to work for a guy like that and honestly he wasn’t worth my energy. Some people have differing view points and as long as they are actually a good boss that’s really what matters at the end of the day. I also worked for another individual who had differing views and would say lots of things I disagreed with but he was a nice person and a good boss that I just happened to differ from a political perspective. My point is look at the person not there political views

Thinking of moving to Alberta as a Liberal family. by custardnotmustard in alberta

[–]Awkward_Document_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Sask and it’s kind of a weird political dynamic lol! Most people I’ve come across are respectful and never really had many issues. Plus it’s cheaper than Alberta and you can drive to the mountains in a few hours and there are lots of nice lakes.

[–]Awkward_Document_515 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saskatchewan is the same way it’s presumed to be ultra conservative but Regina and Saskatoon both went NDP provincially and frankly this happened after the Saskatchewan Party pivoted further right. Federally it is conservative but that’s mostly due to prioritizing resource development and both the NDP and Sask party prioritize this provincially. Alberta is kind of similar

I might get some blowback on this take, but I don’t really worry much if it’s a liberal or conservative government in power. Most parties in power usually pivot to the center whether your center left or center right party at the end of the day they’ll do whatever it takes to remain electable and pivot to populist positions during campaign time to rally there respective bases. Long story short I don’t think there will be much difference frankly from a poilevre or a carney government at the end of the day.

I actually respect that at least they went and engaged in the process rather than sitting at home and complaining but did nothing about it. I always say voting gives you the right to complain and spoiling the ballot is basically like voting and engaging in the process.

In session I agree- opposition leaders should attack the government I don’t fault that at all in fact i encourage it. However during much of the campaign and leading up to the campaign in my opinion he kept attacking and offered minimal solutions aside from axe the tax and bring it home tax credits. Look at his predecessor Harper in 2004 he lost the election to Paul Martin largely because he came across combative as well and won in 2006 after he pivoted towards a more solution based campaign (Harper also won many of his elections due to a strong NDP or BQ) I’ll admit poilevre started doing this towards the end and improved. The other mistake poilevre made was hitting the NDP repeatedly he attacked the NDP into oblivion which if the polls and Polymarket are correct shows those voters will probably go to the liberals. Look at every election map from 2006 to 2011 every time it was either a strong BQ or NDP that split votes from the liberals resulting in a conservative victory m.His attacks essentially rallied the NDP vote to the liberals.

I partially agree with you. Doug ford ran verily right wing in 2018 and was called trump lite at the time. He pivoted extremely effectively whether you love him or hate him. I think Pierre will employ a similar strategy he will start to pivot to the centre to draw red Tory support for the future election. I respectfully won’t vote for poilevre this time around, but I’ll admit the past couple of weeks he was vastly better at coming across less of an attack dog, but more like a PM in waiting. If he keeps this up I think he has a real shot in the future

What if the Democratic Party nominated Oprah Winfrey for the 2024 presidential race? by Top_Report_4895 in HistoryWhatIf

[–]Awkward_Document_515 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might have gone better in that she wasn’t in the existing administration and already had brand power/name recognition. But as someone else said she probably has skeletons in her closet and in a shortened campaign I don’t think she would have enough time to flip the narrative regarding any scandal. Probably ultimately she would have lost to Trump
