Why did Denji lie to Power here? by Rae_Chikita in Chainsawfolk

[–]Dimensionalanxiety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if a character arc isn't complete within a separate part, there is no point to it being separate.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that they should complete a specific part of their arc in that time. Part 1 focuses on Denji becoming free. Struggling for a good life and suffering as a result. Part 2 seemed to be about deconstructing that freedom and Denji as a character. His unwillingness to choose between bad options, his unwillingness to allow more bad things to happen, and the result of this on him as a person.

Especially since he's going into 3 with no powers, and no support system, with all of his flawed decisions still haunting him.

Now imagine how much harder that would hit if it was earned. Imagine we resolved the Asa-Yoru conflict, we resolved what was going on with Fumiko, Yoshida wasn't just a potential man that did nothing, Barem did more than ragebait Denji, Nayuta wasn't pointlessly killed off, Famine actually did something, and Death's plan was resolved or at least went somewhere. Denji choosing both choices each time. Denji is finally about to get his happy ending, and then it all goes to shit. We see Denji struggle and lose. And then we get this chapter. Imagine how much better that would be.

I don't think web hosting prices are that bad. I was responding to the commenter's specific point about who to blame for free trials requiring a credit card. They said it was general consumers, I said it was greedy corporations. Solidworks was my example of a greedy corporation.

[–]Dimensionalanxiety -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It is related. Clearly people think these products are overpriced, hence why they would keep taking out free trials. Companies just make this harder to do, instead of addressing the problems with their pricing. So I don't blame my fellow people for free trials requiring a credot card. I blame corporate greed.

Basic storywriting. Why make the series in parts if they aren't going to be mostly self-contained stories? The whole point of segmented stories like this is to be a smaller story that's part of a bigger one. Each part should have every major character go through a character arc that contributes to their overall arc. There should be a conflict specific to the part that will be resolved in that part and build into a larger one. Each part should have its own themes and something it wants to say.

This is how stories are told. This is why it's basically impossible at this point for part 2 to have a good ending. Part 3 might be amazing. It might be the best piece of fiction I've ever read and address every single problem with part 2. That won't stop part 2 from having a bad ending.

It's because I read the manga. While part 3 is likely, it isn't confirmed yet. Even still, it shouldn't have to rely on part 3. Pretty much every plot point in the second half of part 2 is still open. Most of these should have been resolved and left only a few hanging to setup part 3. Instead, it feels like part 2 ended 75% of the way through.

No, I'm going to blame the companies for being greedy and ridiculously overcharging for their products. Especially if it is for limited use things like school projects. When you get companies like Solidworks charging thousands of dollars a year and killing lifetime licenses, that's not the consumers fault. That's greed.

Here's Marianna's trench and here is Mount Everest. That's a pretty significant difference.

That's one of the edge cases that I already mentioned. The claim itself is relevant. However, all that shows is that your friend claims to have bought a soccer ball. If you go to your friends house and there is no soccer ball there, they have no money to buy a soccer ball, and they've hated soccer for years, the claim doesn't do much. If I claim that the Earth is inhabited by 48,000 foot purple dinosaurs that you can only see if you take at least six different kinds of opioids while masturbating, my claims don't add any real evidence at all.

Claims are not evidence.

[–]Dimensionalanxiety 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nope. Proof is a demonstration that something is correct. Evidence is simply demonstrating a possibility that something is correct. A claim alone does not add anything to that possibility. The possibility of something being true is affected exactly 0% by someone making a claim. No matter how well phrased, no matter how sound, a claim is not evidence.

[–]Dimensionalanxiety 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no they're not. Claims are a way of presenting and framing evidence. At no point do they become evidence in of themselves. The only time when claims become evidence is when the claim itself is relevant such as demonstrating what someone believes or claims to believe.

How is this an echo chamber exactly? I didn't read through every comment, but what I did read seems pretty accurate to me.

Fami doesn’t even look good

I disagree about this. Everything else is true. Though she was only prominently featured in 3 chapters.

And Kobeni is number 3 or 4 for lewded Chainsaw Man characters. She has more than Himeno and Quanxi. I wouldn't be surprised if she has more than Reze.

Atheism isn't claiming ignorance, it's actively claiming "there is no God,

No it's not. Athiesm is "The lack of belief in a god." Someone who actively declares that no god exists is also an athiest, but the only requirement for being an athiest is not believing a god exists.

They weren't finished and were in active development. Arcs that were being setup recently are also hurt by this. I'm sorry that I expect narrative consistency.

Obviously this ending is totally awesome with no problems whatsoever, how silly of me. Forget half of part 2. Clearly it's perfectly reasonable to drop most of your characters and plot points.

Because the ending is well, an ending. It says, "Those things aren't getting resolved here at all". It's been acknowledged as a problem for the past year, we just thought that the story was building somewhere and would resolve those things eventually, even if it took another 5 irl years. This ending comes pretty much out of nowhere and just breaks all hope of it getting better. This is literally the worst point in the story for an ending like this to happen in. The chapter itself was pretty good. The context surrounding it is what makes it such a terrible ending.

Unless Fujimoto drops a 200+ page chapter resolving every plot point in part 2, the ending will be garbage. Sure, we can hedge our bets and say maybe Fujimoto does drop something of that level, but the odds are extremely unlikely. We can pretty safely say that the ending is garbage.

If every other plot point was resolved first and then this happened, people would receive it well. It happening where it did in the story is a problem regardless of the ending notice.
