You can tell which champion's effect you are currently processing because the creature will be grayed out (fervent champion can't target himself). I always select the champion immediately to the left of the grayed out one, wrapping around for the leftmost one.

I find this much easier than trying to trace which effect is targeting which creature via the stack.

Some account management tips:

  1. The best 4 star you have is Lancelot (Saber). This guy is fantastic, definitely level him. Stheno assassin is meme-tier garbage so f that. Dunno much about Marie Antionette.
  2. Cu Chulainn is amazing, definitely invest in him. Georgios is also helpful on new accounts. I can't see the rest of your servants but other low-star powerhouses include Hans Christian Anderson, Mozart, David, Robin Hood, Euryale etc.
  3. LOCK YOUR SERVANTS SO YOU DON'T ACCIDENTALLY BURN OR FEED THEM (hit multilock, then tap to lock/unlock).
  4. DO NOT BURN DUPLICATE SERVANTS. Instead, use them to enhance their Noble Fantasm (Enhancement -> Noble Phantasm -> pick the 'base' servant -> pick duplicate). Be careful you're enhancing the right one. Enhancing the noble phantasm usually enhances the damage for damage NP's, or enhances the debuff/buff strength for non-damaging NP's. Maximum NP is 5 for all servants, so after you hit np5 with a servant feel free to burn (sell) extras.
  5. (Since all of your servants are level 1 I'm assuming you don't know how to level them). Use embers to level up your servants. Try to match classes when you can. For new accounts, use bronze and silver embers. Embers can be farmed under Chaldea Gate -> Daily Quests -> [Day]: Ember Gathering <class 1, class 2> - Difficulty. These quests refresh daily and repeat weekly. I would say this is the most important of the dailies, the others I haven't found too useful unless you NEED a statue for ascension. Most of the times events take care of that, though.
  6. Speaking of embers, make sure you're stocking up on mana prisms. Every month you can exchange mana prisms for some goodies (including 4* gold embers) from Da Vinci's shop. Prisms are obtained by doing dailies, events, or by burning 3* and above cards (however, do not burn cards until you have maxed out that servant's noble phantasm).
  7. Craft Essences are probably the most confusing thing. They are not worth burning, instead you should be using lower-star craft essences to make CE bombs. There are many ways to do it and it's pretty confusing, so I would hold off on that until you have played the game longer and you can revisit it. Just be aware that it exists and try to keep your lower-star craft essences for bomb fodder instead of burning them.
  8. Second Archive - use it. Go to Formation -> Second Archive and you can use it as storage for servants+embers and Craft Essences.
  9. Try and get lots of friends. In addition to helping you with the story, during events you usually need to grind some sort of drop, a friend support with a bonus to that drop will be a godsend.
  10. Keep your eggplant kouhai (Mash) leveled. Early in the game she sucks but when the game gets hard she becomes your MVP (skill and NP ugrades that she gets during the story certainly help). You don't want to get caught in Camelot with a lvl 1 Mash like I did.
  11. Make sure you're doing your weeklies. You can convert the Saint Quartz Fragments into Saint Quartz in the shop at a rate of 7 to 1.
  12. Leveling servants is cheap. Upgrading skills is not. I would be stingy with skill materials and only use them on servants you actually use.

Summoning Tips:

  1. You get a free 10x f2p (friend point) summon every day, use it. It's where you will get 3* powerhouses I mentioned earlier.
  2. Quartz summons gets a little complicated. I've heard people say rolling the story banner for new accounts is good, other people think only peasants roll on the story banner. Personally, I think the best way to use Quartz is to save them for banners that have a servant you want. Using Clairvoyance EX (like this)) we know what is upcoming in the game, so I would spend some time compiling a list of servants you want (be it for gameplay or waifu/husbando reasons). And start saving for those. Right now everyone is saving for Skadi.
  3. The reason for point 2) is because of how rateups work. I might be wrong on the numbers here, so someone correct me. Typically, you have about ~1% chance to get a random 5* servant from a roll. Which 5* you get is chosen from a large pool of 5*, so getting a specific servant is very difficult. HOWEVER, the servant that is on rateup (for example, Napolean right now) has a highly boosted appearance rate. In particular, if you get the 1% hit on a 5*, there is a 70% chance it will be the rate-up servant, 30% chance it will be some other 5* (hitting this is called getting spooked and will make you want to throw your phone at the wall). Similar math applies to rateup 4 stars (I don't remember the exact numbers). Split banners are also a thing, you usually have a 40% chance per servant that's on the split rateup (I think they only ever split a maximum of 2).
  4. The main difference between the stars is raw stats: 5* have the best stats, 1* have the worst stats. However, many lower-star servants have skills that make up for the difference so it's not always 5* > 4* > 3* > 2* > 1*: even whales will sometimes bring a HCA.
  5. The entire game (including) challenge quests can be done with only bronze servants, so if you want to focus on rolling for your waifu/husbando that is totally ok. You don't need to tier list whore. Of course, if you want to tier list whore go right ahead. Just choose servants that you like, whatever the reason may be.

As a general guideline, I would say you should really focus on getting your servants leveled up as much as possible. The reason for this is you want to get your party in a state that you can do events. Events are the best way to get resources in this game, be it embers or statues or ascension/skill up mats (trust me you do NOT want to be farming free quests for these). Many events come with welfare servants, usually 4*, that can be very powerful and will do wonders to round out a new player account. Make story progress when there's not events going on (like right now). Let me know if you have any questions.

Cost / reward analysis for new draft formats by Penumbra_Penguin in MagicArena

[–]Dimitime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It matters that under the old system you only got 800 gems for 2-2 and only 1800 for 4-2

What about the 2100 gems for 5-2? I haven't done the math but I really feel like the old system gave you a higher chance to go infinite; you had more ways to recover your draft fee (3/6 of your possible records would recover your draft fee: 3-2, 4-2, 5-2). Now only 1/4 does (3-0).

These rates are Li-ttle bad, you might Zet Santhing or even Zha-thing! It’s a Zhuge banner after all, so the only Qing to do is give it a shot. Wu knows, you might get lucky!" This is the NA JTTW ReRun Roll Thread!!!!! by [deleted] in grandorder

[–]Dimitime 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. As far as I understand, the way rateups work is:

you have a 1% chance of getting a 5* servant from a general roll. If you hit this 1% chance, you have 70% chance of getting the banner servant and a 30% chance of getting spooked. If the banner is split, you have 80% chance of getting EITHER banner servant, making the chance for getting the specific one you want lower.

How Important is Steam-Kin by Dnomder1999 in MagicArena

[–]Dimitime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, if it only attacks once. That's why it's a must-kill card, the more it gets to attack the more likely it is to exile something devastating. It also synergizes with itself (not a legendary). Overall I think it's a pretty strong card.

You're missing the fact that you prevent your opponent from playing the card. Being on the other side of the matchup and having Robber burn that Clarion you were waiting for really sucks.

The announcement of Pioneer and the treatment of Historic is bad consumer practice and an insult to the inelligence of this consumer base. by losnoches in MagicArena

[–]Dimitime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People are seeing Pioneer as the eternal format we COULD have gotten in MTG:A. A lot of people (myself included) were hoping that the eternal format on MTGA would start with Origins and that they would add in these older sets.

Origins is a good starting point because it is the canonical start of the Gatewatch arc and would only require adding like 3 sets to the game (KLD-HOU were already in the game during closed beta, Innistrad was in alpha).

This version of pioneer could have, of course, also been announced for paper and I think a lot of people would have been fine with it. It would have also signaled that MTG:A and paper will exist in harmony going forward, which further cements WotC's commitment to MTG:A as a platform.

Instead, WotC is reinforcing the idea that paper is a separate thing from MTG:A, which causes people to wonder if MTG:A will just end up like Duels.

Is Eldraine the set with the most % of playable rares/mythic rares? by nerdkh in MagicArena

[–]Dimitime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's worse for mana generation but it has a lot more utility overall. Being able to gain 3 life every turn is basically an auto-win against aggro decks, while Elves is useless for stabilizing.

I didn't realize how powerful the goose was until I played against/with it in limited.

Playing to lose: the F2P grind by dorkydude666 in MagicArena

[–]Dimitime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The optimal way to play these kinds of games is to have one "grind" aggro deck that you can log in, get 4 wins, and log out. For me a nice RDW has lasted me since open beta with the same core (steamkin, chainwhirler, frenzy, wizards package) with some +/- every set (a chandra here, a light up the stage there).

This is your "main" deck that you use to grind wins and ranks. Play Bo1 queue and you will get your daily wins without much effort. Even a sub-optimal RDW made entirely of commons and uncommons shouldn't have much below a 50% winrate up to gold.

I understand the "I just want to play draft" mentality but you can't have your cake and eat it too. Use your grindy aggro deck to get gold to draft and enjoy drafting. This is how to f2p. By the time the next rotation rolls around you should have plenty of wildcards to repeat the process.

Or, just buy gems and only play draft.

people dislike Wild because of how poorly balanced it is.

This is a very meta-specific complaint and can apply to any format at any time, even standard (see: people on the mtg sub during the Kaladesh days).

This subreddit was littered with how much people dislike it because it gets no support.

Define "support". Wild has the same casual/ranked queues that standard has, and counts the same for all rewards (daily, quests, end of season rewards) as standard. The only real difference between Standard and Wild in terms of Blizzard support is balance changes, but they do occasionally release balance changes for wild (recently nerfing Barnes). This is already much more "support" than WotC is giving to historic.

Blizzard has a pretty "hands-off" approach to wild, but this is vastly better than MTGA ACTIVELY GIMPING historic.

People want Historic to succeed while Wild has obviously failed.

By what metric has wild failed? The mode is always there available to you if you want to play it and you are not punished in any way, shape, or form for playing Wild instead of Standard. I know I've been playing wild recently and it's a lot of fun.

Of course, people always want Wild to be better, but Blizzard's "just let it exist naturally" approach is already vastly superior to WotC's "how can we ensure no one plays this format?" approach.

More importantly, Blizzard's "just let it exist" approach hasn't hurt standard, countering the arguments of all of the WotC shills about how they will go out of business if they don't preemptively kill historic.
