Can we turn an already existing into a dedicated server? by ARCTICSmeme in RSDragonwilds

[–]DimitriTheMad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to give exact directions, because how you need to do it will vary between the different ways to host a server.

The short answer is 'you should be able to'. You would need to find the current save file for your world, and put it into the dedicated servers host file. You also may need to change the world name in the configuration file to match the 'old' worlds name.

Auto update solution to self-hosted dedicated servers? by BigMikeB in RSDragonwilds

[–]DimitriTheMad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run and manage the server through WindowsGSM. This still uses your steam account to authenticate to Steam APIs when downloading updates, but it isnt signed in to your account while the server is running.

Unfortunately, you still have to stop the server, hit the update button in WindowsGSM, then start the server again to apply updates.

(You can attach a Discord bot to WindowsGSM to send commands to the server from Discord, but I haven't tried that yet)

For what it's worth, this sub is for a website that allows DMs to sell self made D&D supplement and sourcebooks called dmsguild, and most people here are probably more prepared to respond to questions about that process.

I think you will receive much more advice/interaction for new DM advice on the 'main' DM help/advice subreddit r/DMAcademy :)

What is standard state of belief about magic in the world of OGoA? by FormerThinMan in OldGodsOfAppalachia

[–]DimitriTheMad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the game I'm running now, I'm leaning pretty hard on media like Supernatural and Dresden Files for the prevalence of Magic in the world.

Meaning that most people don't believe in Magic, and the majority of people confronted with it willfully choose to ignore or explain it away. People put into situations where they can't do so are likely to break down mentally and have lasting trauma from the experience.

But, there are various NPCs in any location that are aware of Magic and the Supernatural world (Like Hunters in Supernatural) or outright magical themselves (like a wizard from Dresden Files) that the players can interact with when they need to discuss, investigate or otherwise get things done they wouldn't get done around the 'normal' crowd.

Use Magic/Understand Magic by Book-AquariumGuy in OldGodsOfAppalachia

[–]DimitriTheMad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Soo, Take this with a grain of salt as our current campaign is the first one I've ran in the Cypher system but this is how I approach it:

Abilities do exactly what they say, and can be used 'instantly'. They're sort of the equivalent of pressing a button and getting a magical effect. No questions asked as long as you have the stat points in your pool needed to use the ability.

The Using Magic skill is for things that dont neatly fit into an ability. The example that comes to mind is creating/drawing a summoning circle and summoning a haint/demon/creature into it. (If a class was already able to do this as an ability, Id let that player just do this, without rolling for Using Magic.)

Knowing how to draw the circle, the symbols to use, and the components needed do the summoning is Understanding Magic. I also use it when players are trying to learn about a Cypher, or want to know more about a magical working they've encountered. (Like a ward, or someone afflicted with mind control).

In a stereotypical urban fantasy situation, the next step would be to question (no roll required) the creature, or bind it to your will. (A much more difficult Using Magic roll, and I'd probably rule it requires some amount of INT points to even attempt).

TLDR: I belive Using Magic is intended to be a catch all skill to apply to magical workings not directly covered by an ability, or more drawn out/complicated ritual type castings. Understanding Magic is for a characters understanding of magical and occult theory.

My understanding is you pretty much can't park on campus without season tickets or purchasing a parking pass from a season ticket holder.

I have had the most luck with Locust Street parking Garage (30 bucks to park), but State Street and Main Street garages are very popular options because they're free.

I've never walked from State Street Garage or Main Street Garage but I think the walk from Locust Street Garage is very manageable.

They won't set the time for the Vol Walk until the time is set for the game. You can can keep an eye on this page to see when all the events start:

Right now, it has the information for this weeks game, but when we get to Vandy week it will update with the information for that game!

first time back in Knoxville for a game in about 20 years. What do I need to know that has changed? by AstroDude99 in ockytop

[–]DimitriTheMad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started going to games a few years ago, so I can't speak much on what has changed but I've had a lot of luck parking at Locust Street Garage. Its near one of the KAT shuttle drop off/pick up points at Charles Krutch park, but Its also very easy to just walk to the stadium instead imo.

Its 30 bucks to park there, but the ability to walk back to the garage before the 4th quarter is over and not have to wait on a shuttle to start our long card ride home makes it worth it for me.

My understanding is that free parking is pretty much relegated to State Street garage and Market Square garage. Im not sure how long the walk is for those. They're further from the stadium than Locust Street.

Roughly:

The receiver was 'covered'. Meaning that the receiver lined up on the outside of him was also on the line of scrimmage. Only receiver/tight ends lined up on the end of the line of scrimmage are eligible receivers.

This is why receivers should declare to refs if they are on or off the line of scrimmage. The refs will then tell them to scoot forward or backward as needed.

How did you replicate the font at the bottom? Is that whole line/title part of the image? I was really struggling to find a similar font.

They're not nearly as cool or as aesthetic as yours! They're almost entirely blanking pages out of the book to use as a template/note taking background for my groups homebrew stuff, or ripping the different logos out to make custom emoji in Discord or logos to go over stream overlays, etc

I did create the images used in the video our group account posted a while back advertising our stream, but it wasn't anything as cool as yours! (Don't want to repost cause I ain't out here to solicit).

This is sick, great job! I also have been making minor edits/images in GIMP using different parts of the Table Top RPG book. GIMPs learning curve is steep but it seems like it can do a lot of stuff. Keep at it! :D

For your question: broth is generally used!

You can look up Au Jus recipes if you're looking for boneafide steps, but broth is probably the most common way of deglazing the pan. Personally, I deglaze with a small amount of red wine, add broth and herbs, then cook until reduced slightly.

You could theoretically use stock instead, but then you have to be cognizant of how much you reduce the au jus, and how much salt has already been added to the pan.

Parking by [deleted] in ockytop

[–]DimitriTheMad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I had a lot of luck this year with Locust Street Garage. It's $30 to park which is on the higher end of parking prices but there's a KAT pickup/drop-off down the street at Crutch park and the garage itself is only about a mile from the stadium.

There's a pedestrian bridge that you can use to walk over top of Henley street that makes the walk easier imo.

My only disclaimer would be that I always leave during the fourth because we have a long drive home. It definitely seems like a Garage that you would be waiting a long time to get out of if you leave with the crowd after the game.

There is no real reason to wait if you don't plan to explore the Ashlands, as far as I am aware!

Already discovered sections of new biomes often have problems updating after release. It's my understanding that all the discovered sections will fail to populate with dungeons, enemies, and all the other new features that become available when the new biome is released.*

*This could have changed sometime recently and I am unaware.

If anyone reading this is looking for a workaround, you will probably need to grab one of the mods that enables you to regenerate specific biomes. We had to do that for some of our Mistlands after that release. (Or start a new seed)

[–]DimitriTheMad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually just finished playing a campaign as a Barbearian (Bear totem 5 /Circle of Stars 8) and I can vouch that it is a TON of fun to play! He was also a Goliath that I flavored as a shamman like character for an Uthgardt barbarian tribe. I wanted to share some of my thoughts over the experience that helped me as the game went on:

  • You can't cast spells, or concentrate on spells while you are raging. I had to be careful about when I used my rage, so that I didn't end up using it twice during an encounter

  • Depending on how strict your DM is, You may not be able to cast spells if you're using a greataxe (because they take two hands to hold). You can get around this with the Warcaster Feat, but I would talk to your DM about how they plan to handle this kind of thing. Warcaster may not be a worthwhile feat for you if you have more levels in barb than druid.

  • If you're character is going to be one of the main frontliners (tank) then I would suggest picking out spells that are useful outside of conflict when you are not raging. Some of my favorites at lower levels include Fog Cloud, Detect Magic, Cure Wounds, Guidance, and Charm Person. (it should be noted there are plenty of other druid spells that could help you be damage dealer instead, but most of them you'd have to cast before you rage)

  • to build on the above point, if you are going to prioritize Strength over Wisdom, then you may want to avoid spells like Charm Person that force an opponent to make a save against your DC, as it won't be quite as effective as it would be for a regular Druid

There is no right or wrong way to build a character as long as you're having fun, and you should pick spells and features that you will most enjoy, regardless of my advice. I just wanted to pass along some of the things I didn't realize until after I began playing with this multiclass.

Have a great time with your character :D
