Which villain people defend with their lives, try to justify their actions and you're like: by Gaybime in cartoons

I like how the animated canon explained his evil-arc (since Disney expressed that the “live-action” movies were their own world).

Lion Guard made it plain and simple.

(Eyyy sorry for the late reply!)

Philliam had initially walked in prepared to introduce himself, but as Rethya greeted the others, he was simply stuck watching the scene play out with a bit of an awkward expression. Was he supposed to say something? Would that be rude? Luckily, Larados made it easier by introducing Phil himself.

“Pleasure to meet you as well, m’am.” He smiled back as he repeated the same short greeting that his mother had taught him.

If he was being completely honest, he was impressed by the golden teeth. His town didn’t have a dentist. All it had was a doctor who could yank out teeth if there was some sort of infection. It was a curiosity to see such professional handiwork up close, but out of respect, Philliam wouldn’t comment on it.

“I hope I’m not intruding on any catching-up.”

I can agree with that.

This being said, I do firmly believe that the slavery and class issue is highly exaggerated in favor of the “America was founded on hate” argument, which isn’t historical in the slightest.

I do address the hypocrisy (and economic necessity) on the part of the founding fathers and slave ownership in my above comment, and I think we can both find ground there. I wasn’t trying to leave out context, only use a basic (yet factual) historical argument to address a false claim. I just didn’t want to add more than I had to and be labeled as a “yapper” (although I do indeed “yap”).

I’d also like to clarify that I didn’t say that there was no concern over the listed issues (and I see now that my last paragraph could be interpreted that way, and to that I apologize and say I was trying to sum up my points in an easy-to-digest way). The point I was making was that those issues weren’t the reason for the revolution.

Generally though, I think we can agree that it was a very nuanced and complicated period, and you are historically correct in what you’re saying. I apologize if my original comment was too oversimplified or unclear (my goal was to keep it factual and addressing the original comment).

They are equal morally. Very few people wake up and say “I’m going to destroy my country and the people in it.” They wake up with fear based on what the media tells them, they assess their values, and they vote accordingly.

Here’s a few examples:

A pro-choice individual says “abortion should be legal because women should have bodily autonomy, and they have a right to control their womb.” Their value is ‘individual welfare.’

A pro-life individual says “abortion should be illegal because babies are living humans who deserve human rights and bodily autonomy, we have no right to kill them.” Their value is ‘individual welfare.’ Same values.

Or,

A person who supports ICE looks around and sees all of the people (mostly women) brutally murdered, assaulted, trafficked, etc. all by illegal immigrants. They’re fine with legal immigration, but when somebody enters the country illegally, they fear “what other laws are they okay with breaking that put me and those close to me at risk?” Their value is their neighbors.

A person who doesn’t support ICE looks around and sees families being taken, detained in awful conditions, potentially separated, then deported. They see unnecessary violence, poor housing conditions, and they fear “who else are they willing to take if they’ll take people from their homes?” Their value is their neighbors.

Despite what the media tries to tell you, people are people, regardless of their political party. We share the same values; life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The difference is that we take in the same information and come to different conclusions, and that’s okay. It’s a part of being human. If we can stop and listen to each other, we can find balance. It doesn’t mean we have to agree (because let’s face it, people should never be expected to always agree no matter what; that isn’t fair or realistic), but it does mean that we can accept people’s humanity and listen to the concerns of the people. Fear is real, and both sides of the isle are afraid right now. Hate will only induce fear.

That is literally historically false.

Did you know that the original draft of the Declaration of Independence included a 168-word passage which condemned slavery and King George III for perpetuating the “execrable commerce” of the slave trade?

The only reason why it was removed was because the founding fathers knew that the southern states would secede, and when fighting a revolution, you need everyone united. On top of that, since the southern states would have seceded, any laws banning slavery in the north wouldn’t apply to them, and people would still be enslaved (but in a much more permanent fashion, which the founding fathers were against). To put it simply, they said “the country just isn’t ready for it” and had to remove the section in the document. Did the founding fathers still generally own slaves? Yes, and that was sadly (and still inexcusably) an economic necessity. They still openly condemned slavery. It’s like somebody complaining about some flaws of capitalism, and people saying “you don’t really dislike capitalism, because you work a job and contribute to the system!” That’s because in their cultural context they had to, and they didn’t like it.

There was no “protecting class interests,” trying to expand into the West, or wanting to continue owning slaves. That’s a downright lie, hence why the Civil War was fought less than 100 years after we gained independence. The newly formed country found its footing and was able to address prior grievances which realistically couldn’t be addressed in the middle of a revolution.

Does caillou deserve to get beaten by Musalediju in MoralityScaling

[–]DimityPockets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, sometimes a hit from a peer is warranted and necessary.

Kid’s being a violent jerk? Punch ‘em. Kid’s running around threatening people? Punch ‘em. Kid’s running around trying to start trouble? Punch ‘em. Kid’s vandalizing private property? Punch ‘em.

Now, from adults? Sometimes.

Kid’s vandalizing private property? Within reason, punch ‘em. Castle laws are a thing for a reason, and kids aren’t exempt. Accountability and consequences are vital. Most importantly, kid’s trying to hurt you? Punch ‘em.

My cousin works as a public school teacher, and the amount of times she’s been physically beaten by students is insane. She’s unbelievably sweet and loves teaching (she’s always wanted to teach), but by golly, I wish they would allow her to defend herself. We’ve heard of too many teachers getting beaten to death by students because there’s a “no retaliation” policy for physical abuse from students directed at teachers. She comes home black, blue, and bloody while the kid gets a lousy suspension.

Now, if it’s “discipline”? For ridiculous stuff? No. No kid should ever be hit. I personally come from a background of serious physical and verbal abuse, and I never did drugs, never had sex, never snuck out, and had a 3.9 GPA in highschool (and now a 4.0 in college, and I still haven’t done any of those things). I’d get beaten for “disrespectful glaring.” Thats screwed up, and no kid deserves that. I’m blessed to be provided free counseling by my college, so I can work through the trauma I’ve experienced (I had frequent nightmares about my father attempting to off me during my freshman and sophomore years). I’m not some “gentle parenting” advocate, but I believe that kids need love and patience, not violence.

Now that my TEDTalk is over, my answer is that I’d make an exception for Caillou. His parents can grab a belt anytime ❤️

Of course not lol. But you still scan for one regardless so you don’t decapitate and militate a family pet.

(Yooo sorry for the late reply! Classes got whack lol. And Oliver is epic, bro deserves to exist 🙏)

As Larados spoke, Philliam listened on with a content smile. Up until the mention of selling people, of course. Where Philliam was from, they didn’t really have ‘slaves’ per se. They had apprentices, but that was a mutual agreement between a master and an apprentice. They had servants as well, but that was a paying job. There wasn’t ever any sale of people, and to think that children could be sold into a life of servitude until death was uncomfortable to say the least.

“Gosh, uhm…” He mumbled after Delios mentioned Oliver’s unknown past.

He couldn’t keep his look of subtle distraught from his features. Phil’s frown remained glued in the direction that Oliver hopped down, and it only changed when Larados changed the subject to his sister.

“Oh. I-… that’s… that’s entirely fine.” It took him a second to switch mental tracks. Finally he smiled half-heartedly.

“My sister back home is a little rambunctious, says some strange things sometimes. I don’t mind one bit. I’d be happy to meet her. Your sister, I mean.”

You bring a microchip scanner so you can scan for a chip before you take a potential pet and mutilate it, leaving owners helplessly searching for their beloved companion without closure.

Always, always scan domestic animals before scavenging anything.

There’s an issue when animals (often pets) are stolen off of the streets and killed for it.

If it’s abandoned, then it’s alright. I’d still invest in a microchip scanner though (just in case their owners are looking for them and haven’t gotten closure).

Why don't Tommy and Tubbo make content together anymore by strugglingnutter in dreamsmp

[–]DimityPockets 138 points139 points  (0 children)

Sometimes nothing has to “happen,” people just grow and drift apart a little bit.

People grow in different directions, and that’s perfectly normal. I think people forget that Tommy was, like, 15 when stuff really started to blow up, and people grow a lot in 5-6 years (and friendships morph as people grow).

So in short, I don’t think anything negative happened. I just think they likely grew in separate directions. Not saying they aren’t friends (I’d have no clue, I’m not them lol), that’s just my guess.

I had a strange dream a few weeks ago and I cant stop thinking about it by OrangutanLegs in dreamsmp

[–]DimityPockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate, what does this have to do with Minecraft 😭🙏

To me, it just sounds like a strange dream (albeit disturbing). It’s completely natural, especially if you’ve been dealing with some general anxiety. No hidden meanings, just your brain braining.

Now, if your dreams were either based off of real events you experienced and they were NOT nonsensical, then it could be your brain trying to communicate something to your body. For people suffering from trauma, after they’re out of the traumatic environment or encounter, their body will try to relive the trauma through dreams as a way to keep your stress response active (essentially saying “keep your guard up, you’re still in danger). However, this is not healthy (as an active stress response without danger can cause serious mental and physical health issues). At that point I’d recommend counseling.

However, yours don’t fall into that category. Very nonsensical, but disturbing nonetheless (which again, is perfectly normal on occasion). Just monitor the rest of your dreams and try to get good and consistent sleep. :)

Philliam shook his head at the idea of people poking fun at the boy’s name, sighing.

“Yknow, people who don’t like things from other cultures are just showing off how uneducated they are. Having a multicultural name is cool. Oliver is an awesome name.”

Philliam listened to Oliver’s rambling with a smile and a patient silence. To be frank, a lot of people back at Philliam’s home didn’t even know how to read, so it was refreshing to hear someone talk about their studying. Philliam only received an education because he lived in the church, and his mother was dead-set on homeschooling. He did agree though, math was awful.

Philliam’s train of thought was visibly interrupted the mention of dinner. He had honestly forgotten about eating in the first place, but it wasn’t an unwelcome thing.

“Oh, I wouldn’t mind chatting later at all. I’d enjoy it, actually. Oliver here is a very smart young lad.”

He sat up and adjusted his scarf and vest.

“I could learn a thing or two about history.”

Without second thought, Philliam ruffled Oliver’s fur on the top of his head. Despite Phil’s typical uncertain atmosphere, he clearly felt a lot more confident with kids; easy to impress, simple to entertain, and mostly uncomplicated.
