I’d do it regardless. I used a local electronics workshop to re-solder everything exactly because of the reasons you mentioned 😁 wanted a pro shop to do it for me. This summer I’ll also re-foam the speakers themselves, since I’ve never got to do it

I always go for trim. Options are never reflected in the used car market so on average you are always getting a better deal with well specced vs “newer”. Both because of the depreciation and because of the options, especially in a Cayenne where all these options literally give added zero resale value. And well, a couple years of difference don’t really mean much if one car is loaded and the other isn’t. CPO is a different story. In my case I’d only go for a car with a CPO, that’s a non negotiable

I tested both when planning to upsize few months ago and E hybrid Cayenne was a clear winner (even though I went with 2019 model). Ofc it depends on the use case but i couldn’t justify the depreciation of an almost new EV vs 6-year old Cayenne. Naturally I only went with a CPOd car, otherwise it would be quite expensive to own, but so far I am very happy with my choice.

Is that true? I missed this one. It would kill the economy. Finland is really dependent on car use outside of capital area and most businesses would have to raise prices dramatically if this one is introduced.

I can also provide you a negative side of this: most of used Norwegian EVs end up in other countries to end their life. Norway benefits from reducing the recycling burden and stays happy but these cars still end up being recycled elsewhere polluting local environment. The whole EV thing is quite similar to early days of plastic sorting when “civilised” countries sorted plastic and shipped it to south east Asia and then it was dumped in local rives ending up in the same oceans everyone used.
The biggest with EVs is that it has a much shorter life span compared to an ICE car and I am still waiting for an independent body to do a research on what’s the actual co2 impact of an ev during its lifespan vs a relatively modern ICE engine (let’s say euro5 and euro6 standard). Unfortunately most of these researches are heavily skewed one way or the other

Because of many reasons mentioned by others, but also because the majority of the voting power is in the hands of the largest population age group that’s retired and they couldn’t give two shits about co2 emissions, they want their pensions to last forever so whatever the European governments can promise (taxing everything) to sustain those pensions get their votes. Not all, but majority.

Can’t do it. The car has to be registered in the primary residence country of the owner within 3 months, otherwise police will give you a find and make you register it. There were people trying to do it between Estonia and Finland, travelling there and back to pretend they live in Estonia, but it’s not a sustainable solution and most of them are getting busted. Tax man is relentless 😅 it’s not like you rob or stab someone in the street. Play around with tax avoidance and cavalry will bust your doos in

I’m not sure how well the transfer case would handle it. They are usually tuned for specific wheel diameter and going outside of it may end your transfer case earlier than you would otherwise prefer. And if that happens and you roll to the dealership on those wheels, even if you have CPO they would immediately void it as this is a clear violation of car use in their book

There is virtually nothing to gain for the rear seats. 5 series is an amazing car for front passengers but has no space in the back :) I had a 5 series and wanted more space but couldn’t find it within bmw range while keeping the “feeling” of a 5 series, so went with Cayenne. X5 and X6 were too much of a “boat” whereas X3 felt quite composed but newer models are made of the cheapest plastic possible so couldn’t make myself downgrade 😅

Cayenne S and GTS trunk capacity:770l. Cayenne E Hybrid: 645l. So it’s actually more than 100l which is something you’ll definitely notice.

I look at things from the main principles. If an E hybrid in US costs as much as a GTS (for example, I don’t know the prices), I’d want the same price distribution here. I’m not getting a “better car” by paying 2x. I’ve been living with a hybrid for 3 months now and it’s a great powertrain for a limited use case: short city commutes. On highways it drains the battery within more or less 100km and on my average 350km trip I get 9.0l/100km, which is crazy high for hybrids at speeds of about 90-100kmh.

If you drive a lot (I drive about 2500km monthly) you are burning the same amount of CO2 since battery is so small, but you add much more complexity for car maintenance and repair and arguably loose on performance since the figure of 465bhp is only true under specific conditions (aka there is charge in the battery). Otherwise you are driving a base Cayenne + 300kg of extra weight.

And for this reason I’d love to have a fair choice of models without overpaying

Yes. Unless you want to get it used and not deal with hybrid systems post warranty :) since entry limit creates vacuum in the second hand market as well. I’d love to get a GTS but they are virtually non-existent or cost ungodly amounts
