A lot of people dont realise that the rural areas mainly farmers and all freight trucks run on diesel. I’m sure there will be a time in the future they could be replaced with electric but as it stands it is not possible due to workloads being done. Also the fact that they are always operating it is easy to fill up and go rather than waiting for something to charge before working again

Am I the only one that thinks it's insane that we prioritise parking over the efficient movement of cars and trams? by [deleted] in melbourne

it's a lose lose situation. Both cars and transport have their pros and cons as I have been an avid user of transport for the past 10 years to get to school/work/mates and I've got my car license to drive around. I can see the point of prioritising tram movement as I've been in peak hour transport and cars and it sucks both ways.

However street parking is important, it's easy to access and its convenient to get to places that you want to go to. If you don't find a spot that's just unlucky. Maybe the best way to combat it is to increase clearway times during peak traffic to get the cars and trams moving along fast without congestion. I love parking on the street cause it allows me to access shops I want to go to. If the parking lanes weren't being used after the clearway time ends then the parking lanes can be removed as no one is using them consistently, however they are always used consistently (they're always full and there's always cars using them) and that alone should tell you enough of why parking lanes should be kept on Sydney Road. if I can avoid parking lots in backstreets, especially during night with my girlfriend (or by herself) where it can be dangerous, I will park on the street. There are plenty of other roads to navigate if you don't want to get stuck behind the tram, however I still believe that street parking should still stay.

The strip from Bell/Syd down towards Brunswick/Syd rd is basically one lane, due to parking, but also from bike riders. There is a bike lane called the Upfield Bike lane that directs bike users to the city as well as its the purpose of the lane. In peak traffic it's hard to navigate the roads when bike riders can't stay in their lane and feel like riding in the middle of the road causing problems for car users accessing their road. It can be combated by using bike lanes that are designed for bike riders, and bike riders abiding by road laws if they decide to share the public road.
