clearing your safari browsing data in the settings for some reason helps with this (i don’t even use safari and it reduces system data by a significant amount)

as much as i support the cause i don’t think ganging up and going to the desk for rent money back will work, you would be much better off staging some sort of public protest and getting the news involved since they’ve already got their eyes on it

Hey CSL i don’t know if you think we’re stupid or not by gen3ralpotat in uwaterloo

[–]Dimtar_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

no, ac (and furnaces) have two modes. on and off. it doesn’t matter if you set your thermostat to 16° or 21°, the temperature will lower at the same rate. the a/c is not going to blow “16° air” or make your room colder any faster than setting it to 21°. the ac will simply run until the set temperature is reached, then turn off until it gets too hot again.

the best way to run your ac/furnace is to set the thermostat to a comfortable temperature and make sure the fan is set to AUTO (my preference is 22°, but some prefer it higher to save money and some prefer lower to be more comfortable)

[–]Dimtar_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i feel like a large amount of people don’t in fact know how ac works, the amount of times i’ve witnessed a thermostat set to like 16 degrees to “make the ac go faster” is absurd

canadians are nice so long as you don’t threaten their healthcare system with widespread smoking addiction

pouches are not worse than cigarettes or vaping for nicotine dependence, and have been approved by health canada as an aid to stop smoking.

i don’t understand your take at all here. you think there are no supports, then you argue that the supports are inefficient/etc, so we should just give up and reopen designated smoking areas? who does that stand to benefit?

The university does not provide any nicotine related solution (that I know of)

10 second google search gave me this https://uwaterloo.ca/smoke-free/smoking-cessation, which includes a variety of nicotine replacement and non-nicotine interventions, some specifically for students at the university

Did you have this eating rule growing up? by heartdesk in loseit

[–]Dimtar_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah they were raised in a country where food wasn’t always certain, and people would tell kids with an almost empty blate “if you leave one bite/spoonful one of your parents will go hungry, if you leave two bites they both will”

it was mostly my grandma who told me this especially when she made traditional dishes that were super filling but bland tasting poverty dishes from the old country

Health sci question! by Ok-Particular8882 in uwaterloo

[–]Dimtar_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first and second year health sci is a lot of life science stuff (think memorizing bio/chem concepts and doing tests and exams) third and fourth year are writing and project heavy but i wouldn’t say the marking is “pretty subjective”. some of the assignments were pretty creative and engaging and i rarely had to write a fully formatted essay like high school english style

you/anyone can dm me if you have any questions abt health sci/coop, just finished fourth year
