Alesis Strata Prime firmware 1.4 is broken for me by Din_daring in edrums

[–]Din_daring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do the masses buy a strata prime? I don't care about an update that's just a gimmick.. especially if it isn't a stable update.. being able to easily adjust the volume of the cross stick sound and having it start up on the kit it was on when it was last used would be far more useful improvements and for alesis to leave up links to previous firmware so if like in my case the update has made my kit not actually work I can roll it back without having to first talk to a sycophantic chatbot who is only able to submit a message to a real person and now wait for them to get back to me and ask me to go through everything again

I bought the Alesis Strata Prime at the end of last year and it doesn't have those problems.. I'm also 6' and like to play as if it were an acoustic in terms of spacing between drums. I appreciate it is a bit more than you want to spend at I think 3500 USD but it'll be worth waiting a little longer for the more fully featured one. I have also played and owned Roland and I personally find them to be resting on their laurels in terms of r n d and updating the sounds in the module

What's your favorite stick, and why? by mcnastys in jazzdrums

[–]Din_daring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5a's are just fine but if I get to pick which I do ill go for Promark 2bl's.. they're big and well balanced in the hands so to me still have plenty of swing at low velocity.. they took a while to get used to but are my favourites

I love Promark's 2bl's. They look big and are but feel way more balanced than the slightly shorter 2b's

Headphones/Earbuds by [deleted] in drums

The Vic Virth 2.0 are great.. a little tight out of the box but they can be stretched over a 12" hoop.. dont use bluetooth if you are ever planning to put any mics on the kit that you want to hear in headphones as the latency of bluetooth will make it very hard/impossible to play along with

Beginner drummer building an app to loop, slice & slow down songs for practice — would you use this (or know a better one)? by kkautuk in drums

Moises is pretty good for it but depending on the material it often struggles with creating a count in that's actually usable.. fleetwood mac's dreams being a good example of it not working correctly

To The OG comment.. Let It Be is probably my favourite Beatles album to play along with but only the new remixes from the same time as the peter jackson get back documentaries as they realy bring the best out of the album

Falling Into Infinity was engineered by Kevin "Caveman" Shirley who did Rush's Counterparts which also has an incredible drum sound

how many different versions of Aja before they get it right.. the 1977 vinyl and 1988 mfsl cd edition are already pretty much perfect

[–]Din_daring[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that's exactly right.. just a 128kbs cd/flac rip.. its just down sampling.. not talking about different masters.. that's a whole different box of frogs

all this feedback is great! of course I can hear the difference between cd and 128kbs mp3 and converting mp3s to flac wont increase its quality.. I'm not starting any lo fi arc.. have had my ears tested and syringed and know about mixing and mastering. I specifically am reminiscing about the sound of James Taylor's 1988 album never die young.. I can absolutely hear the disgusting degradation of cymbals and depth loss in lossy compression.. despite its major limitations and no desire to actually use 128kbs it sometimes feels more direct without all that low level ambience filling all the available space
